This is a paid announcement?
heh
May stop by and pick up samurai books and that clanwar
boxed set I saw... Seriously thinking of making some
Samurai armour. We may be starting an asian division
in AAF.
You should get lots of sellers turning up Sunday arvo
- after the Jedko auction...

Rushing up the dais into the darkened depths behind -
Nadia's faith keeping the undead at bay - Everyone
arrives at the back wall.
Gwen pauses briefly to glance at the armour on one of
the skeletons before rushing on.
Balron shivers, as if a cold wind has struck him - or
perhaps some warmth was taken from him.
Nadia stumbles on a piece of rubble, as if momentarily
blinded.
Behind the statue, the grey stone wall is smooth and
unbroken, but even in the faint light, Ari can just
make out the outline of the door. He fumbles, trying
to find the catch. At last, his fingers touch the
mechanism, and the door opens with a muted click.
There is a sighing and ratling of the lurking
skeletons. A clink of metal and scrap of rust.
Beyond the door is a narrow corridor of the same
smooth
grey stone. The lighting is a little better here: a
faint flicker of light set high on the walls reveals
the presence of hidden sconces. Their warm yellow
glow is not at all welcoming. Something sparkles on
the floor. Above you, there is only darkness. High
above your heads there is for a moment a faint sound;
a soft hollow moan that fades away to nothing.
There is a wooden door in each wall. The right is
closest, the left, a little further on. The floor is
a awash with muted sparkles.

Ari sends a cautious glance up, and frowns slightly. He mutters
unintelligably and creeps cautiously forward.
"I think we're in the vestry," he whispers. "Last time I came through,
those rooms were empty. I think we'll be safe there." He smiles, but there
is very little humour in his expression. "The skeletons don't seem to feel
the need to change clothes."
Ari steps carefully down the corridor, heading for the closest door.

Subject: T15 The Vestry

The room Ari shows everyone is small and cluttered
with debris.
The stone walls have holes in them, where you assume
wooden shelving was attached - judging by the remains
on the ground. The place smells very old.
The unlit depths of the room hidden ominously in
shadow. Every obstruction appears to be menacing in
appearance.
There is a deep sliding sound of metal on stone from
somewhere far ahead. Or perhaps deep underground.
Something flickers along the walls - a wash of magic
perhaps. It travels the length of the corridor, from
north to south. Disapearing down into the depths of
the temple toward the entrance. The Temple area is
lit briefly as the walls and floor appear to
luminesce.
There is a short 'Whumph' sound as something
discharges and the lights under the skin of the stone
walls and floor make their liquid way back towards the
party.
The group feels nothing at all as it passes by for the
second time. But the sudden deafening boom from up
ahead is quite startling. Obviously the rest of 'it'
has done something further north of the party.
It doesn't proceed back your way again.

Gwen sniffs, looking entirely unfazed by this phenomena, in fact - a
faintly ferel smile tugs at her lips. "Kaceubel would've laughed if that
had decided to ground on us. Well, as long as we don't throw
over-enthusiastic magic around, kiddies, we should remain unvapourised for
a little bit longer." Gwen pokes some dark shadows beneath a chair idly, a
strange glint in her eyes vying between extreme paranoia and defiance.
"But don't let that inhibit you - a little gambling might just make this
jaunt less /balanced/" She glances up at the ceiling, gestures
contemptuously and then looks back to her companions. "Well? Do something
heroic!"
Gwen scrubs at her face with the back of her hand, brow furrowed as if
afflicted with a headache. She meets Nadia's steady gaze once more, and
the bright passion which so characterised her demeanour since their meeting
in the inn seems to bloom afresh ... but only for a moment. A tide of
sombre determination returns to cloak Gwen's jewel-like eyes in dangerous
shadows and she begins to kick at her surrounds with furious frustration,
possessed of an entirely alien posture and attitude.

Balron turns from his slow backwards walk away from the Temple of
Bones. "None follow us it seems," he says, shouldering his way past
those in the hall. "Lets see whats awaits us here." Shifting his
shield slightly, he reaches back and unlimbers his crossbow once more,
striding into the room.

Balrons laugh cuts through the tension. "Ah, lass, this place is to
spooky for goblins! No stomach for this kind of thing, those ones."

Kaceubel gathers himself together and pushes himself to his feet. He dusts
himself off, ignoring the faint sounds of skeletal warriors in the next
room. He tsks softly to himself as he surveys his damaged clothing.
Kaceubel mutters a few words and his clothing starts to repair itself. He
pulls a mirror from his pack and cleans the blood away from his face.
"Damnable woman, why does she have to be such a good shot? And wasting her
magic like that. Amateur." Kaceubel examines himself with the mirror
making a few small adjustments to his appearance. "Now where did they go?
hmmm"
Kaceubel draws two small runes in the air and turns around a full
revolution. "Aaah. There they are, doesn't look like they got too far as
yet, I should have no difficulty catching up to them."
Stepping to the doorway into the next room Kaceubel surveys the skeletons as
they mill about. "Hmmm, skeletons. Not much of a challenge there."
Stepping back Kaceubel removes a brush from a pocket and collects a small
pile of rock dust whistling cheerfully. Kaceubel chants cheerfully in a
singsong fashion and scatters the dust over himself.
His preparations complete Kaceubel walks into the room of skeletons and
easily finding the path taken by his fellow adventurers. Stepping lightly
he nimbly avoids those skeletons that stumble across his path as he makes
his way towards the dais.

Ari slumps in a corner, a frown marring his child-like features. He raises
his hand to his temples, and the golden bracelet he wears gleams briefly in
the dim light. He stills, barely moving for several moments. At the sound
of Gwen's voice he looks up, blinking owlishly.
"I'm sorry, what was that? Oh, where we went next, right. These tunnels,
and rooms..." muttering softly he pulls his pack from his shoulder and
rummages through it, taking out a faded, leather bound book, he begins
flipping through pages, pausing to squint occasionally at the faint, spidery
text.
"darkened temple... skeletons... moving corridor... oh, here we are! The
vestries." Ari smiles triumphantly, gazing around at his less than
impressed companions. "Nothing much here. We rested in this room for
several hours, and then went on. See that?" he points into a darkened

Nadia jumps, the shock of the unexpected sound sending
her heart rate, hardly returned to rest from the
strain of holding the skeletons at bay, skyrocketing
again.
She mutters a very quick, possibly strictly
blasphemous prayer.

"Ah, speaking of Kaceubel..." The cleric's attempted
interjection is quiet, tired, almost pitched as if
expecting failure. Her shoulders have slumped and
regain none of their bearing with her own failure to
raise this question properly.

The dying of the light in the ranger's eyes seems to
be the final straw in the cleric's depression. Her
head joins her shoulders, sunken and old, shadows
gather, darkening her normally pale eyes, raised just
sufficiently to continue watching, as the
discomforting posture possesses Gwen. She follows the
group, holding just sufficient attention to her course
to follow accurately and retain some perception behind
her and the party. She sighs, deep, heartbreaking yet
quiet exhalations every now and then, sighs with just
the slightest element of theatre to them. The
interest with which she originally entered this
dungeon, casting her gaze about, learning and
observing, almost gone, the gaze flat and little interested.

Gwen slows and straightens, hearing the all-too audible sighs, and swings
about. Her face seems set between roiling darkness and concern, she stares
at Nadia, struggling for words, then curses affectionately, hopelessly, and
steps close extending a hand, a besotted, impassioned, slightly agressive
smile transforming her visage from one kind of wildness to another. Gwen,
however, freezes as her eyes alight on Rusalka. The ranger's hand twiches
then withdraws, and she frowns accusingly at the ancient polearm before
looking back up at Nadia. "Fine. Cursed magic once agains screws with my
life. But I am being strong, Nadia. I shall persevere as I promised you
in anticipation of my freedom and once more feeling the Mother's freshness
pouring through my soul. Maybe, if we suceed here, you will be able to
take me to one of your temples and cut this blight from my spirit, but
until then, you will just have to put up with my other face which is being
fed so richly by this odious pit. If you want to huff and puff, then do so
and rejoice in your worship of despair. We are all toys of Balance,
anyway, so why not mope and wallow in the knowledge that nothing we do will
make a difference because we follow His design!" Gwen turns and kicks at a
chair, watching it crash and collapse with dark relish. "At least then,
you'll be giving your faith to a god who can make a difference on this
forsaken shit-heap!!"
A streamer of blood has begun to work its way from the ranger's sculpted
nostril, seemingly induced by her current level of strees and Gwen wipes at
it with the back of her gloved hand, unconsciously smearing blood over her
smooth, curved cheek. With a muttered obscenity in twisted elvish, the
tall woman swings back to the cleric.
"Kaceubel? What about the mage? I know what I did to him, Nadia, and
there's nothing which is going to change that. Do you have something to
add, however? Some recriminations, perhaps? Well how bout you tell me as
we walk, for despite the precedent set by Ari's last ill-fated party, I am
not resting here."
With that Gwen heads for the exit.

Boom, boom. There is a great thud on the door from which the party entered

Gwen stops her hand on the door, then grins and hauls the bar off and pulls
the door open. She grabs the elf, pulls him into a big hug, kicking the
door shut and exclaiming over his head and the firmness of his recently
punctured scalp. "Bloody maidens on a stake - you're alive! So SOON!
How did you do it, you relentless son of a dragon!? I thought for sure

"I mean, I really tried to kill you, back there - bane arrow and

Kaceubel raises his hands in mock zombieness and theatrically staggers a
step before dropping his hands to his waist. "No zombies here I'm afraid."
He looks over at Balron and wags a finger at him. "I didn't appreciate that
does of hell fire either you know. Still, no hard feelings. Everybody
wants to take a shot sooner or later, best that it's over with early in the
adventure. Now, while I can forgive the attacks, the waste of magic is
another matter. Gwen, A bane arrow, really that's a waste of magic, save
that kind of thing for the big nasty monsters we're going to run into later.
Balron, I don't know how much you've got but your control is shoddy and
incantation second rate." Kaceubel's face breaks into a grin as he awaits a
reply.

Nadia's eyes flick to Rusalka from where they were
hungrily drinking in the sight of the ranger, even as
hurt as she is, and seems about to speak before
swallowing her words.

Trying to fight the despair of which the ranger so
angrily speaks, the cleric holds back tears, her eyes
glittering, rain added to the black clouds as she
watches Gwen raging at herself.

who almost recoils at the anger in the amethyst eyes
and the blood covering the smooth skin of her
beloved's cheek. Only rapid blinking contains the
tears at the hurt so inaccesible to her, to healing,
at this moment.

Dashing the back of her hand across her eyes, removing
the tinge of moisture, Nadia moves forward,
forgetting, ignoring the possible risk, putting her
hand upon Gwen's upper arm, not stopping her, stepping
quickly over the debris as she tries to catch up.
"I, I know, I mean, I don't want to recriminate you or
accuse or anything, but I do need to know why you did
it, why you, you know... What I said earlier still
stands, but I do need to know."
Nadia half trips, her attention split, only her grip,
suddenly taut, on Gwen's arm preventing her from
falling face first into the debris. Clashing to one
knee, releasing the arm and still looking upwards
towards Gwen, desperately fighting the urge to blush,
she props Rusalka against the ground, grateful for any
assistance in regaining her footing.

Gwen halts at the merest contact, her chest rising rapidly with agitated
breaths.

Gently, soberly, the ranger clasps Nadia's other arm and draws her slowly,
carefully, to her feet. Gwen then leans in against the cleric's body,
twining her arms about her shoulders as she presses her brow against
Nadia's armoured shoulder. The human woman can feel the churning agitation
and barely contained fury within her lover's form manifest as taught
trembling enveloping every inch of the half-elf's tall frame. Gwen's
fingers press urgently, tenderly against Nadia's back and then, after only
the slightest moment, the ranger steps back, a lingering touch on Nadia's
elbow ensuring that she is properly balanced.
Gwen heaves a breath, clenches her fists and looks up. "I shot Kaceubel in
the hope of delaying him. I expected he'd survive, I just hoped he'd be a
day or so in getting to his feet. The last shot to his head was to cripple
his most valuable asset, his brain. I know a lot about mages, Nadia,
particularly his breed. Kaceubel had his agenda. You have yours. I
presume Balron and Ari have plans of their own. My own has undergone some
changes, thanks to certain curses and recent insights. I saw ... the dark
part of me saw Kaceubel as a threat so I took the bloody chance to slow him
down when it offered itself!" states Gwen, her temper rekindling without
apparent reason. She looks directly at Nadia then to Ari and Balron. "Do
you want me to elaborate!?"

you'd leave me alone for at least enough time to get over my sick
loathing!" Gwen stumbles back - amazed, ferel intensity imbueing her form.
Kaceubel looks over the rest of the party, smiling the while.
"I mean, I really tried to kill you, back there - bane arrow and
everything and still you come back!" She laughs, eyes glittering. "It's
the most extarordinary feeling, Kaceubel, to have the two people I most
love and hate in existense standing in the same room. If I wasn't already
tortured beyond tolerance by this life, I might actually feel something
right now, but alas! - I remain high and dry! Welcome back! As much as I
despise you and your kind, it seems we might need you after all! Unless
you're a zombie - " she grins "- in which case the others might decide to
have a go at your hide this time."
Kaceubel raises his hands in mock zombieness and theatrically staggers a
step before dropping his hands to his waist.
Gwen laughs and it is an honest and bright sound - the most natural
reaction she has displayed for many minutes.
"No zombies here I'm afraid."
He looks over at Balron and wags a finger at him. "I didn't appreciate
that
dose of hell fire either you know. Still, no hard feelings. Everybody
wants to take a shot sooner or later, best that it's over with early in the
adventure."
Gwen lifts a brow in puzzlement and glances at the dwarf skeptically.
"Now, while I can forgive the attacks, the waste of magic is
another matter. Gwen, A bane arrow, really that's a waste of magic, save
that kind of thing for the big nasty monsters we're going to run into
later."
"Twas nothing" says the ranger with a dark chuckle.
"Balron, I don't know how much you've got but your control is shoddy and
incantation second rate." Kaceubel's face breaks into a grin as he awaits
a
reply.
Gwen pokes the mage's head again, shakes her own and promptly begins
preparations for lighting her pipe. This time, she dispenses with the
flint, however, and when the silver bowl is well stuffed, merely lowers her
eyes and watches the tobacco alight with a glow and a waft of sweet smoke.
Smiling, she takes a draw and visibly relaxes. "Dwarves are always
dreadful mages, Kaceubel. I doubt 20 dwarven mages could have killed my
father, noooo, took elves for that! Yes indeed. And you wonder why dryads
steal your children ..." The ranger trails off, lids growing heavy, but
her fingers still tap restlessly against one hip.

Balron glances sideways at the elf, as if judging how long it would take
him to snap the thin body in half. "And yet still there was no body to
be reanimated by the one below." He steps past to the doorway. "Earth
and Fire magics are a useful tool, but I prefered to learn to interact
with people effectively." He surveys the corridor outside and then
turns and walks down the corridor. "I die less often that way."

"A sentiment that I echo" Ari says, pushing himself away from the wall. He
comes to stand in front of the mage.
"So you're back from the dead. How... jolly. And you forgive your
murderers, quite magnanimous."
Ari takes a deep breath. "What the hell are you?" he shouts. "All of you!
Monstrous magics, demonic powers... You!" he turns to Gwen. "You kill
without warning, without remorse, one whom you have treated as companion.
Why? First sweet, then darkly threatening... are you REAL? Or are you
simply playing at normality, pretending that you can feel and think as
normal folk do." Ari swings round to face a startled Nadia. "Watch this
one," he warns. "How can you ever be sure that she loves you, given that
she will forever be playing a part, given that there may be nothing real
behind her quixotic facade!" He frowns. "Although, perhaps it is all a
game for you, and you wear your mask of sweet gentility in more convincing
fashion." Finally, he turns and again faces Kaceubel. "And so, you are
satisfied? No stirrings for vengeance against the companions who lately
tried your strength, gave their best to see you dead. What the hell are
you?" he repeats, softly this time. "What..."
Ari trails off as the looks of blank incomprehension defeat his ire. He
stares at them, and then folds his arms protectively across his chest.
"Forget it," he mutters, shouldering his pack once again. "Let's just go
further into the dungeon, and you can keep wrecking your merry havoc."
Ari sets off down the corridor, following the dwarf.

Gwen's brow darkens and the distant look in her narcotic-glazed eyes fades
rapidly. She blinks. Stares at Ari, somewhat startled by his outburst,
then looks at Nadia, trying to fit the Hobbit's suspicions to the human
woman and instead releases a shout of mocking laughter that she quickly
chokes behind a gloved hand. Dried blood flakes against Gwen's palm and
she widens her eyes, subjecting Ari to a ferel look of bared teeth and
curled lips as if to confirm his wild suppositions. Laughing, the ranger
then takes another drag on her pipe. "Give me a break, Arimansis," she
says with melodic charm. Then with a sharp glint to her amythest orbs.
"Some of your cruel words strike true. Reason to be cautious when your
next urge to berate _me_ arsies, eh? Be aware that you also do not have
all the facts, Hobbit. You should find confidence in the resilence and
resourcefulness of your companions. What did you expect the children of
prophecy to be like, anyway? As far as I see it - you are the odd one out
here." Gwen's eyes drop shrewdly to the bracelet about the hobbit's wrist.
"Maybe." She smiles faintly.
Finally, he turns and again faces Kaceubel. "And so, you are

"Fine with me." Gwen nudges her bow to a more secure perch upon her
shoulder then looks to Nadia. Her strong features are well ordered. "I am
sorry you are being exposed to this, but where there are trials, there will
be strength." Gwen's voice dips, dignity collecting like raiment about her
form. She touches her fingers to her chest, unconsciously tapping the
royal crest worked into her jacket. "I am not a callow, remorseless
creature, my love. I am your strength, Your right arm, your defender
here. Do not doubt me and I shall see that there is light at the end of
this horror. I will weave my curse into your shield and there will be none
who can harm you. Ever."
Gwen smiles faintly, reassuringly, and touches her fingers to her lips and
extends them to brush against the back of Nadia's hand. "Trust me despite
all these shadows," whispers the half-elf, then turns on her heel and
moves to the doorway, looking both ways cautiously before beckoning
Kaceubel and Nadia through.

Nadia follows the beckoning hand, her expression still
etched with the confusion she has felt at least since
Kaceubel returned from the grave so apparently
trivially. Her eyes dart somewhat, uncertain where to
settle, uncomfortable with all the things that have so
recently happened. Pausing near the ranger, perhaps
hoping to gain strength from what she can read in
those eyes, her gaze is interrupted by the blood on
Gwen's cheek. She raises her empty hand, gently,
lovingly brushing the stain from the idol with a
honest sigh, before shifting her grasp, gently pushing
upon the jacketed shoulder.
"I will continue to watch our backs, Gwen. Go."
Dropping her hand as Gwen turns to move, a teasing,
unexpected slap.

"Ouch!" Gwen looks over her shoulder, a surge wry happiness transforming
her attitude. "Why you little -" The ranger darts forward, wrapping her
hands about Nadia's waist in a brief, mock wrestle that wickedly finds all
the cleric's tenderly mapped ticklish points. Squirming Nadia gives a
shout of protest, struggling comically with her lover until laughing
merrily, breathless, Gwen finally dances back, a few tendrils of pale hair
floating about her cheeks where they have escaped her foresting scarf.
"Now we're even!" she says with a rougish grin and spins to hurry down the
corridor after the others with a light skip to her step, trusting her back
to Nadia's vigilance
Catching up with Ari, Gwen winks downwards and shakes a horn bracelet free

Kaceubel focuses on Ari a slight smile adorning his unmarked face, he waves
down at himself. "I am as you see, an elf and a mage. I am old, even by
the standards of my race. Long ago I learnt not to carry around rancor for

"It's a hard lesson to learn, my friend, but that you can profit by.

I suspect that the lord of this place can access those energies to our
detriment, this will affect my usefulness as we go as magic is my primary
armament and the more I use it the more powerful our opponent becomes. The
wave that passed through earlier was backlash as the channeling system
overloaded, I suffered some additional damage from it and will not fully
recover until after we leave this place. A regrettable circumstance."

Gwen arches a brow, her eyes intent upon his shifting features. "Resources
Ari? Either you are imagining things or have suddenly achieved a level of
insight unprecedented in your diminuitive species." She shrugs and shakes
the horn bracelet back within her sleeve. "I doubt my resources could ever
compare to your own, just a my skills at thievery pale in comparison to
those you sport." She glances at the walls and ceiling about them then
sighs lightly. "What does the bracelet do, Ari, or shall I ask Kaceubel to
check it with his delicate spells? I'd be laying a bet that whatever its
powers are, the bracelet somehow contributed to your wriggling out of the
truth spells cast this morning. So, you going to be up front?"
Ari sighs wearily. "By all means, let us try the truth spell once again.
Then after he has done me, perhaps Kaceubel can intrude upon your secrets,
and those of your lover. What an entertaining couple of hours we could all
have! Nothing like truth spells to get to know each other better, after
all. And Balron! Won't it be interesting to learn what is behind that
inscrutable mask. You know what they say, scratch a dwarf, and--" he stops
mid-flow and gazes fearfully at the dwarf's back. "Err, perhaps I didn't
mean that quite the way it sounded."
"And perhaps," he abruptly turns back to Gwen, I can clear up some of your
questions about the bracelet. Here." He shoves his sleeve up to the elbow,
exposing a thin, lightly hairer arm. The bracelet is a plain gold band, a
slender twist of metal that looks at odds on Ari's young, masculine arm.
This is not the sort of jewellry that you would expect on a young, male
hobbit.
"Watch closely," Ari commands. He takes a deep breath and grasps the
bracelet, drawing it slowly down towards his hand.
It reaches the heel, before it rebels. A slender gold wire suddenly
extracts itself from twisted metal. A wicked barb gleams briefly, before
plunging sharply into Ari's forearm. He hisses, an exhalation of breath,
and bites his lip. Bright blood wells briefly around the tiny new wound,
and the wire stops moving.
He looks up at the Ranger. "Magic," he says bitterly. "Now perhaps you
understand a little better why I don't like the stuff." He pulles the cuff
down about his wrist and continues wearily: "I can't take it off, I can't
chop it off, I don't even know what it does, exactly. As you have already
pointed out," he smiles. "My... resources do not compare to yours. I have
this, and it will not let me go."

At the northern-most end of this ill-lit corridor with
it's sparkling, intricately patterned floor, sits a
door.
This door appears to be awash with light. As if many
torches, hidden were indirectly illuminating it.
The surface is smooth and appears to be painted or
coloured with designs using an unknown method.
It's yellow. In the centre of the door is a stylised
painting of a young woman wearing a many-coloured
crown sitting on a black and yellow throne.

Just to point out; You do not need to enter this room
to travel further into the dungeon, it is merely the
most direct route.
There are other exits from the Temple room. Plus the
Vestry area wasn't fully explored.

The Ranger, smiling faintly to herself at the concept of answering truth
spells as suggested by Ari, looks up at the door ahead and abruptly comes
to a halt. She lifts a brow, puffs on her pipe with a vague look of
befuddled displeasure, glances at the floor, the walls, then shakes her
head. Her arms fold nervously over her chest.
"I suggest we go another way, folks," says Gwen, plainly troubled. "That
door has bit toooooo much of a drop on the other side for my liking."

At the beginning of this PBeM, I estimated 30 turns
till it finished, as a time limit.
But the end is variable - I can cause it to happen
prematurely, or later on.
The actual end of the game will be when players (you)
start to get board and let me know about it. While
everyone is enjoying themselves, I will keep it going.
But not past this adventure, mind. I'm not planning
on doing a campaign with the surviving character(s)
even if the world turns interesting for them.
If anyone has any views on the matter, let me know.

moves forward to stand in front of the door and reaches out his hand. He
traces the pattern with his fingertips, careful not to actually touch the

engagingly. "Come on, share! Does this have something to do with your

She sighs, turns and address the group, giving Kaceubel a smug grin.
"Though it does remind me of something I once heard, which considering
we're tramping over an Earth ley line, might be relevent." Gwen takes one
more draw on her pipe, smiles dreamily at Nadia, then begins to recite:
"Eat not of the delicious Pomegranate

And so my journey has begun, to find the Eye

The ranger smiles, as if the poem is nothing out of the usual. "Bet you

comradely grin, then turns back to the door. "Welcome to the Tenth Path of
Resplendent Intelligence. I'm sure our innkeeper in Derisnospewn would
plead ignorance if I pointed out that this circle - the Sphere of the
Elements - is named after him, just as every villager is an echo of this
accursed place." She sniffs, lays a hand on the surface of the door
consideringly. "Gate to Death, Justice, Brides and Immortality. As I said,
a long way down, but if we resist our greed-" she glances at Ari, "then
maybe we will survive the next path intact. Did I say we should find
another way? Pah. To hell with it. I love being a dryad ... and a
hypocrite." The ranger shrugs, grasps the stem of her silver pipe between
her even white teeth and shoves at the door.

this portal." Nadia's voice is quiet, considering.
"I do not fear it, as some appear to", not even a

She pauses, perhaps awaiting some divine inspiration,
perhaps inviting less pure commentary.
"Are there any less-mystical reasons this door is not

at the thought of the practically meaningless speeches
and nigh unacceptable manhandling just finished. She
sighs and mutters something below the threshold of
anyone's hearing.

Personally I've been there, it's a pretty boring place all things
considered.
Gwen looks at Nadia, grins and rolls her eyes.
>"We can open the door and have a look or we can go elsewhere, though, as
we don't even know what our other options are yet, I think going through
this door now might be a little premature."
> "Boring huh?" Ari taps thoughtfully at the door. "Although perhaps what
you find boring, elf, might be fascinating to lesser beings. Hands up who
wants to visit the Gods?" Ari raises his hand and looks round at the
others. "Oh, /come on,/" he says, noting their general lack of enthusiasm,
except for Gwen who shrugs and lifts a gloved hand with a nochalant wave.
"Isn't there something you've always wanted to say to the gods if you met
them face to face? And if it's one of those weird planar thingies, we'll
be back before we know it." Abruptly, his teasing mood alters, and he
swings around to face Nadia. "We haven't heard from you, yet. Isn't this
within your provenance?"
The ranger nods, moves her hand to take Nadia's gently, curling her fingers
about the human's with a strangely shy tenderness. "I, for one, do not
think any god would deign to converse with me, but there are others of you
perhaps who deserve such notice ..." she sighs, "and the fact that this
Qabbalistic heathen Dungeon has a portal to 'beyond' makes me damn curious
... despite the long step we'll be required to take. If it helps, my
knowledge suggests we won't be able to be hurt once we're beyond, despite
all Balron's mumblings about 'me and mine'. If you know something we don't
dwarf, you should spit it out, but I don't believe this place has anymore
affinity with the zombie-elf than the rest of us. I'm inclined to think
the heart of each of these circles will be the only objects of interest
that we shall, in the end, find. I'm hoping we don't have to pass through
all of them - so I guess my curiosity for peering into every broom closet
in the dungeon is limited at best. I don't like back-tracking, even if
there is the possibility of finding a copper under a floor board," she adds
with a amused glance at Ari. "I vote for the door. That leaves the
deciding vote in your hands, Nadia."

[OOC] slight edit [/OOC]
"I have very little to say. I can feel nothing
beyond the door and the pattern itself says nothing to
me. All I find myself wondering is exactly how all
our companions know so very much of what lies beyond
this portal." Nadia's voice is quiet, considering.
"I do not fear it, as some appear to", not even a
glance towards the overly pushy dwarf, "but it does
seem to lead directly to the centre of this place."
She pauses, perhaps awaiting some divine inspiration,
perhaps inviting less pure commentary.
"If there are no less-mystical reasons this door is not
acceptable?" A shading of irritation in her voice now at the thought of
the practically meaningless speeches and nigh unacceptable manhandling just
finished, although her posture is more relaxed since the touch which she
gently returned.
She sighs and mutters something below the threshold of anyone's hearing.
"Forward." She bows slightly towards Ari, indicating his expertise in this
matter.

To help avoid confusion, please include some of the

"Just this, lass." He gestures at Ari and the Mage. "The realm of the

The ranger huffs, the stormy look returning to her eyes, her hand strays to

"Oh, and would you please stop hitting the mage. It's just so... tacky."

The ranger's lips quirk ironically at the thought of behaving tackily and
she seems to ponder the idea for a moment before casting her eyes towards

regal brow, draws Nadia close with a gentle touch and begins to whisper
something in the cleric's ear ... after kissing it softly first.

Ari stares thoughtfully at the door, tapping his thumb against his front
teeth. "Well, and this is a stretch, mind, I was thinking of trying the

He rolls his eyes towards Gwen, only to discover that she's busy canoodling

reaching out his hand, grasps the handle and pushes on the door.

There is the brief image of the barman from the
village telling stories as the door opens.
You would expect blinding white light to emanate forth
from the room beyond. But the light is trapped
within. And its yellow.
The room beyond is so brightly lit tat there are no
shadows, nor can the walls, ceiling of floor be seen.
Everything is blindingly yellow.
Except none of the party are blinded. The corridor
everyone stands in is still unlit. No light escapes
from the room ahead. Occasionally there are
scintilations in the the patterned floor but no
reflections can be seen in the polished surface of
this yellow room.
In the room is a throne and a door. The door is on
the farside of the room, an infinite distance away and
yet, at the same time about 10 yards away.
The throne of black stone, with rayed stripes of
yellow sits in the middle of the room facing the
party.
At the base of the throne sit a copper skinned
pomegranate to the left and a cluster of milky white
quartz crystals to the right.
Sitting on the throne is a young woman, dressed in
royal robes of citrine, olive and russet. Upon her
head is a black crown flecked with gold. The spheres
of her eyes are fire.
She smiles and beckons Ari forward. She bears a vague
resemblance to the serving maid at the inn, but older
and more refined in appearance.

pulls back to resume his post chortling. "Arimansis that Ashim wants you
bad. Don't take too long, I here they wear a man out. Seriously though,
you'll probably have to make a choice here between those artifacts."
Abruptly Kaceubel resumes his professional faade and looks at nothing
again.

Gwen looks away from Nadia to snort rudely. "You're such a name-dropper,
mage." Ther anger then reluctantly releases the cleric's hand and smiles
wryly. "But that's a messenger spirit, so I better go get my mail." With
a sarcastic wink, the half-elf then turns and steps nochalantly through the
doorway. In one hand she holds her fine, black-stained bow. The fingers
of her right hand, however, are superstitiously crossed.

Ari raises one eyebrow and regards Kaceubel with a look of lofty
superiority. The effect is more comical than awe-inspiring - lofty
superiority sits oddly on child-like hobbits.
"He undertook the quest with jaded certainty, and found only what he
sought," he says, with somewhat garbled obscurity. He frowns, about to say
something else, and then stops. With a shrug, he follows the half-elf into
the room.

A puzzled look crosses her angelic features as she
stands and addresses the two who have entered.
"We are here for one, but know thee that we are not
empowered to prevent others from approaching". From
the tilting of her head she appears to be looking down
at Ari and Gwen: her flaming eyes unreadable.
"We are Sandalphon of the Ashim, assuager of

Ari steps forward, sending an apologetic look in Gwen's direction. "I guess
if I was a courtly gentleman, I'd say ladies first, but since I did open the
door, I guess this is mine." He clears his throat. "Sandalphon of the
Ashim, I came through a gate in the dungeon Sephiroth. Who, or what, called
the gate, and put it in my path?"

"Know thee not the calling of Sephiroth?" Her voice
appears to emanate from a point somewhere infront of
each listener as she smiles and raises and eyebrow in
puzzlement.
"Manifestly did the forces of evil and good strive to
conflict and embattle."
She gestures in the air and an image forms shape.
An ugly artist dressed in rags is painting the picture
of this room. Inside the room is only the angel and
the artist.
A cat scurries past the artists feet as a dog chases
it. Both fading in from nowhere. The cat turns and
dodges between the artist's feet as the dog plows into
it. The artist trips, the back of his brush strikes
the painting of the room and rips through the canvas.
The cat and dog race off as the huge cylinder of a
gigantic glowing brush materialises behind the artist
and crushes him to the ground. The image fades as the
artist picks himself up off the ground and begins
looking for the two animals.
"Sometimes metaphores can become real."
Sandalphon laughs abruptly as she turns expectantly
towards Gwen. Perhaps even mockingly.

"I hope the rest of the answers are more helpful than
that. This is exactly..." The bitter voice trails
off, Nadia obviously preferring not to finish the
statement. She is standing ready, just outside the
room, positioned to watch back down the corridor as
well as some of the activity within the room. The
expression on her face speaks clearly on her opinions
of such clever-ass responses. As she speaks, her face
is pointedly away from the Ashim, watching the
corridor down which the group came.

Gwen reserves judgement on all the cat and dog stuff and smiles at the
angel then looks back at the door, an apologetic look on her face. "I will
ask my question last. Balron. Nadia. Come forwards please. Ask the angel
what you will. It's not often you get a conduit to the gods and that's
exactly what she is."

Balron shakes his head and stomps into the room moving to stand directly
in fromt of the Ashim. "Tell me the shortest and safest path to that
which I seek, messanger of gods." He glances at Gwen. "Not that it'll

Kaceubel moves to lean on the doorway without entering the room, he
addresses Gwen, amused. "And she can write too. I'm shocked that you would
consider this something worth writing down." Kaceubel takes a good look at
Sandalphon and returns his gaze to Gwen grinning. "It never ceases to amaze
me that you mortals continue to seek the words, nay counsel, of the forces
of the universe when you could just work out your own problems if you were

The Ashim tilts her head faintly, a moment passes,
then she stares directly at Balron, a cold force
entering her luminescent eyes. Her voice the same but
for intonation.

"I see you, faithful one, I acknowledge you. You
have struggled tirelessly. You must continue to do
so. The circular Kingdom of the Elements is surmounted
by Foundation and then Grace. Beyond Grace lies the
Crown. If you do not stray, thus you shall find
yourself upon the shortest road. All other paths bear
extra burdens. Above and to the right of Kingdom lies
Honour. To the left, Victory. Above Honour is Fear.
Above Victory is Mercy. Above Fear is Intelligence.
Above Mercy is Wisdom. Both Intelligence and Wisdom
also lead to the Crown. The shortest path lies true
ahead. Let the Ley Lines guide you, my devoted son,
and the nexus will be clear. Cut the dungeon's spider
from its web, separate it from its means of
manipulation without breaking the threads, and you
shall have all you desire. Thus lies the physical
path. The variables are your Test, safety you must
ensure for yourself. Your resources are known to you.
Use them wisely. I am waiting for you."

Kaceubel with disdain. She has not the time for this.
The room is suddenly empty and dark. Cold dark stone
of an underground workshop. The sudden fluctuation
from spiritual to the mundane should leave the party
blind and deaf from the transition, but does not.
It now appears in its true form - a magical workshop
of some sort, complete with a magical circle. There
are various bones lying around the place and bits of
wire and other miscelaeni.
All that is left of the Malkuth is it copper skinned
pomegranate and the crystal.

Gwen shakes her head as if the argument is a pointless one, oft heard. She
starts scribbling again.
"If, and I stress the if, this Sandalphon is truly a conduit to the gods
then there arises the question of truthfulness." Kaceubel addresses
Sandalphon momentarily, "and that wasn't my question by the way, I'll let

Gwen finishes, stows the pencil and rips the page in three, separating
three different questions. She paces to the door, extends a tanned hand
and passes Kaceubel a note written in scrawled elvish. "There. For what
it's worth. I'd like to hear the angel's answer to that - if you don't
mind sticking your craven head in here and asking it. As for a trap - well
Ari's the expert and seeing as we're all trusting Ari now - despite the
fact he's wearing a bracelet made in this dungeon - I guess we're safe as
houses. Outer level of heaven?" The ranger looks around, lifts her hands.
"Works for me. She shifts her attention to Nadia. "Of course you may
come and ask your own question, but maybe this one would stand you in good
stead." The piece of paper with a sloping hand in common is passed to the
cleric. "Anyhow, I'm going to ask my question now - so excuse me." With a
parting grin at Nadia who still hovers undecided by the door, Gwen paces
right up the angel's throne.
She pause there, crouches before the pomegranate and the lump of quartz and
considers both very carefully then, with a faintly calculating look, the
half-elf stands, peers at the angel's crown then smooths her piece of paper
and places it on the girl's robed knee. "Read my question and answer
faithfully."

Balron goes to one knee, scooping of the pomegranate and the crystal in
gentle, almost reverant hands. He stows them somewhere about his
person. Grasping his axe he stands and, skirting the magical circle,
walks to the opposite door. Turning, he looks expectantly at Ari.
"Well locksmith, I believe this is your province." He looks at Kacuebel
for a few seconds before shaking his head slowly and turning away.

heard Kaceubel's statement (not question), got

From where she stands near the door, Nadia shakes her
head slowly, disbelieving certain minor elements of
the preceding drama.
In a voice lilting with merriment, the bitterness
passed as quickly as it appeared she queries,
apparently speaking to the air.
"I would love to know three things here. Apart from,
of course, way!, Balron, what question did my
ever-suspicious lover pass along to Sandalphon in such
paranoid fashion," smiles at the ranger, trying to
take any sting from the words, "what question did she
suggest Kaceubel ask, and how by all the small gods
did such an incredibly, nay, unbelievably tactless
fellow such as yourself survive even a century, much
less your own-claimed eight millenia?"
She moves into the room, still prepared to watch
everyone else's back, but assuming that such tactless
confidence deserves credit, she wanders aimlessly
around this workshop, stirring the rubbish and
detritus with the tip of her sword, Rusalka again
sheathed, eventually ending up near Gwen. She lowers
her voice before querying something of the ranger.

The ranger smiles and beckons the cleric closer. "I shall tell you what
you want to know, earnest one. No fear."

>She lowers her voice before querying something of the ranger.
Who draws her into a hug and whispers in her ear ... a repeat of earlier
canoodling that is quickly completed. Gwen smiles and steps away. She
suggests they get moving as Ari heads over to the door, muttering about
servitude, then steps to where the throne was and stoops to pick up the
piece of paper she of late lay in the angel's lap. It crumbles to dust at
a touch and the ranher curses and wipes her fingers on her breeches,
muttering about latrine paper and wastage. She then straightens her tall
frame, looks about at the detrius of the room with distinct distaste and
then paces over to where Ari is attempting to turn door handles again. As
she comes to Balron's side, she looks down and raises a brow. "Beware the
'grand illusion,' friend. Eating pomegranates can be bad for your health
if that old poem is anything to go by. Tempted myself to shove the damn
thing down the dungeon master's throat actually." She grins.
"Intergestion a la the god realm has gotta be bad."

Ari clutches at his wrist and slumps to the floor, his
knees buckling.
After a moment, gasping for air, he recovers his feet,
standing up once more.

If the damage is too massive, I will be sorry to see the freaky dungeon

Ouch!
Peter, I'll email you some ideas re saving the game, although it may take
more than a little tweaking.
Otherwise, I'll go along with showdown, and major revalations.

Nooooo! Can't stop now. Have read nothing, have read
nothing!!!!!!
Well, I haven't seen anything, so 'twould be alittle
difficult to suggest any means of repairing this
advertisedly major f@#$-up [no offense of course,
Peters]. But seriously, I don't want to stop because
I am having way too much fun here. Surely the
combined geniuses of the P@#$rs can, oh, and Dianna,
of course, sorry Dianna, keep forgetting you because
you didn't make a mistake here, fix the matter.
But if we do have to finish this matter, let's make
it good. I want to know all your secrets. As a
player at any rate.
The gist of all the rambling is, I guess I'm with
Rachel on this one. [although, darl!?!?!?, how no...]

Please delete necessary messages.
Those who have read them, try to forget, and have
their character not use player information.
I've deleted the digest entries pertaining to the
matter.
We'll keep going and see what happens.
Trouble with using Yahoo mail is there is no outbox.
I had sent the general message to the maillist first,
then pasted the player-only version, changed the
subject but forgot to change the address. I had
pressed sent for about 10 to 15 seconds, before I
realised and stopped the process. Unfortunately it
seems that transmitting data is annoyingly faster than
receiving - hence the slip-up. I'll try to be damn
more careful in future (that's the trouble with games
that have character secrets).

Subject: T17, Ari gets annoyed

The thief slowly turns, his arms folded protectively
across his chest. His small body is taut, and his eyes
are afire with pain and rage. "You." His voice is
whisper-soft as he looks at the dwarf. Ari extends
his left hand and points directly at Balron. There is
a howling from deep within the dungeon, a rising sound
that builds to a stormy crescendo. Ari turns his gaze
towards Kaceubel, then Gwen, then Nadia
A light breeze plays along Balron's face, snatching at
his clothing.
As Ari turns his damning gaze upon Kaceubel, fire
erupts from above; intense and white-hot.
When he glances upon Gwen, the sound of splintering
glass overpowers Ari's softly spoken condemnation.
Finally, Ari turns to the cleric. "You." There is a
grinding sound from deep within the earth, and the
floor beneath the cleric's feet trembles.
Suddenly, Balron is lifted from his feet, and thrown
across the room. The dwarf slams into the stone wall
with a sickening thunk, and slumps to the floor. But
his invisible foe is not yet done. Once again, Balron
is raised, and he begins to spin. Faster and faster,
until, in a blur of motion, he is gone.
The flames rain down upon the elf, engulfing him in a
raging, storm. Falling to the floor he pulls his
cloak over his body. Its powerful, hungry roar
resounds in his skull, and the aroma of burning flesh
fills his senses. The hissing of steam fills the air.
A black, slippery circle takes form at the ranger's
feet. A sweet, melodious tinkling accompanies the
rapid formation of ice crystals. They hug the ranger's
form, encasing her in a tomb of thick black ice. Fear
clouds hear features as she throws her arms around
herself. The ice fills her ears, and shuts her eyes.
Its chill is in her blood, its sharp, cruel touch is
on her bones.
Chunks of stone burst out of the ground. They rise
around her and above her, the cold stone hugging close
against her form. Nadia is imprisoned in dark rock.
It presses so close that she can't draw breath to fill
her lungs, and the chilled stone bites into her flesh.
Her arm stretches out to one side, Rusalka jutting.
Kaceubel is crouched, his outer garments all but burnt
away as the fire continues to gnaw at him.
Gwen she is trapped in a fetal position inside. Light
occasionally flickers around her head.
All that can be seen of Nadia is the tip of her
polearm jutting from the solid rock that now encasses
her.
Ari and Balron have disappeared.
[player-specific version will be forthcoming]

There is a clang, a rattling sound as Rusalka comes
from free of the rock surrounding the cleric and falls
to the ground, rolling to end, and stop, near the
burning mage. Sounds of exertion can be heard from
within the dark rock as Nadia shifts and twists,
trying to find faults and weaknesses in this new, less
than mobile armour. There is a very occasional crack
as slight success is reached. In a very hesitant voice,
not certain she wants a
response, and fearing what she may receive, she calls
out, the voice echoing oddly. "Gwen, Gwen, are you
okay?" Not receiving any responses, the voice, mostly
maintaining composure, only the pitch increasing a
little, continues, "Kaceubel, Balron, is there anybody
out there?" The lack of any answers seems only to
strengthen Nadia, and the sounds of creaking and the
friction of metal against rock increases.
