Refer to ToC for info. 5/9/98 The heck with it! I added Yuffie's subquest for organizational purposes. 5/22/98 Vincent's waterfall added. It is quite important considering... well you'll see. 6/6/98 Chocobo breeding section added. 9/3/99 I decided to edit parts of the walkthrough again. Seemed kinda ambiguous at times. 1 DISC I 1.1 the 1st mission Welcome to Final Fantasy VII. You start out as a mercenary with a big sword, Cloud. After watching the movie, you jump off the train. There are two dead guards there. Search the first one twice (by pressing O) to receive 2 Potions. After going down to the end of the room, two guards will attack you. Don't worry, you can kill them in one hit. Turn left into the next room. If you are having a hard time find the door, press Select. There will be a pointer on you. Red arrows indicate entrances exits, green indicate ladders. Follow your group through the sector until you reach a door where they are standing at. There, a short conversation occurs, and you will name Cloud. Then a big black guy comes and disperses the group. Then you will name him, this text will use Barret. He tells you how to run, (which is quite useful) and then you enter the reactor. At this point you come to a T, go up. Then Barret will stop you and join your party. Talk to Biggs first, then Jessie, to open the 2 doors, then follow Jessie thru the elevator. But before that, go south and get the Phoenix Down from the room below. On your way down ,Barret will talk some more. Follow Jessie thru the reactor. At one point, she will tell you how to climb up/down ladders (green arrows). After climbing down both ladders, you reach a save spot. SAVE OFTEN. You never know what's gonna happen. Save, then go down the walkway. You will find a Restore materia on the ground, but you won't be able to equip it. =( Cloud will have some sort of seizure, then will equip the bomb. Then a boss will attack you. -------------------------BOSS TIPS: GUARD SCORPION------------------ - LV: ?? HP: 800 MP: 0 WEAKNESS: lightning STRENGTH: none Start off with Cloud doing Bolt spells and Barret attacking. When it raises its tail, Cloud will warn Barret not to attack. If your HP are good, you can attack and build up your limit breaks. Then it'll lower its tail, and you can finish it of with Bolt+Attack. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Quickly equip Barret with the Assault Gun you get. You have ten minutes to exit. The timer runs continuously on all screens, so if you're low on time, use L1+R1 to run from battle. As you make your way thru the pipes, you see that Jessie's leg is stuck. Help her out, (press O) and continue. After you exit the elevator, if you have about 5 minutes left, you can stick around and fight a few baddies. When it's time, exit the reactor and watch Mako Reactor No. 1 explode. You will find yourself in Sector 8, with your group. Just follow the red arrows (exits). There will be a large circular room with a Potion in it. After you exit the room, you will be surrounded by Shinra soldiers. Don't fight them. You can, but it won't help any. Then you will jump on the train. After a chat with Barret and company, you arrive at Sector 7. Follow them into the sector, and inside the bar. There you will meet Marlene, Barret's daughter, and you will name Tifa. This part is pretty much self-explanatory, it is not hard to follow. Downstairs, Cloud and Barret start quarreling, and Cloud gets ready to leave. Tifa talks him back into staying, and Barret pays you 1500 gil. At this point, 1500 gil is a LOT. Then you go to sleep. 1.2 the 2nd mission You wake up. Tifa says she will join you. Before you go, be sure to check out the Item and Weapon Shops in the SE. Go in the Weapon Shop, to the 2nd level, and there will be a tutorial there. You can also get an All materia and an Ether. Hop on the Sector 7 train. Talk to Tifa, and after a while, the sensors will go off. Quickly run to the man in the back and he will give you a Phoenix Down. Go thru the cars, one by one, and then jump off. When you jump off, you are on the tracks. Barret tells you to go north, but go south, after a few screens you shall see 2 guards. Kill em, and 2 more come. You can get a boatload of experience. So go north, and down the shaft left of the sensors. Be sure to pick up the item bag on the ground. Climb down both ladders, and then go to your left. Go up the first ladder (really tall) and you'll see Jessie. Crawl thru the duct. There, you'll see a item bag (tent) save spot, and Biggs. Climb up the ladder. Biggs is near, and go down the chute. Look familiar? It's the same as Mako Reactor No. 1. Make your way down, save. At the bomb, Cloud gets another seizure. He plants the bomb. Then make your way back up the NORMAL way (the same way as in No. 1 Reactor.) Open the chest, then you go to a room with 3 buttons. Time your press with Tifa and Barret, and the gate will open. Save, then go up the elevator. At the T, you become surrounded. President Shinra talks for a bit, and then summons Airbuster. ----------------------------BOSS TIPS: AIRBUSTER---------------------- LV: 15 HP: 1200 MP: 0 WEAKNESS: lightning STRENGTH: none This robot attacks whomever it faces. Bolt spells are decent. If he is NOT facing the attacking character, damage increases. Limit Breaks are awesome. I did 606 damage w/Cloud's Braver, he was at Lv. 10!!! Another easy fight. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The robot explodes, causing a gaping hole. Cloud falls down to the depths of Sector 5..... 1.3 the church/sector 5 After Cloud wakes up from his blackout, he meets some sort of flower girl.... the same one you met in Sector 8 after blowing up No. 1. She talks to you for a while, and then you get to name her (Aeris). Then some dude in a black suit walks thru the entrance. That is Reno, he will always get in your way. Cloud talks with Reno, then runs away with Aeris. There are 3 guards. When the first one comes for Aeris, she'll yell "Cloud!" if you respond any of the lower 2 options, she'll fight, if the top, then there are 4 barrels, if you push over the right one, it'll kill the guard. Do this to 2 more, and then escape. I'd rather her fight and gain some EXP. You make your way thru the top of the church, then jump down to the ground. Aeris points you in the direction of her house, so just go where she tells you to go. You can also get some Materia/Items here. You can get an item and Cover materia in the flower bed. If you talk to her mother, she'll ask you to leave in the middle of the night. Even if you don't, you'll have to do it anyway. Don't run or Aeris will catch you and you'll have to do it again. Exit the sector, then head left. Aeris will be standing there. Make your way thru the junk. This is tricky. Go over the bar with holes, turn around and go thru the pipe. Head left and go up past the hand. Turn right, walk on the bar, head up, and voila! You're there. You arrive in the park. Aeris and Cloud will talk on the slide. Then Tifa will come out of Sector 7 and go into the distance. Follow her. 1.4 wall market CAUTION: This section accounts for most of the 'T' rating on this game. Can you say, 'Las Vegas'? After following Aeris, you reach Wall Market. The objective is to find Tifa. First, go to the very bottom right of the screen where there is an exit and a fat man. Go thru the exit and you reach the Honeybee Inn. Talk to the fat guy, then ask about Tifa. Exit the place, then go up to another screen, and north into a tent. Talk to the guy there. Aeris pulls you aside, and then she mentions it....the only way to get in is to dress like a girl =). Go back down to the first screen. Enter the clothes shop (on the left w/a man looking at something outside). Talk to the owner, and she tells you that her dad makes dresses and he's at the bar. Go up to the second screen, in the bar on your left, and ask the guy sitting near the entrance. ---If you answer 1st choice, 1st OR 2nd choice, you get a Cotton Dress. ---If you answer 2nd choice 1st choice, you get a Satin Dress. ---If you answer 2nd choice, 2nd choice, you get Silk Dress. Go back to the clothes shop, Cloud will try to put it on, but Aeris says he needs a wig. Goto the gym (2nd screen) and talk to the lady. There, you gotta beat a black dude in squats. It's easy, just don't press them too fast. ---If you win, you get a Blonde Wig ---If you tie, you get a Dyed Wig ---If you lose, you get a Wig. At this point, you can go to the mansion, or make Cloud more...feminine. If the former appeals to you, just go to the clothes shop and put it on, the go to the mansion. Otherwise: Go to the restaurant, say the food was all right, and get a coupon. Go to the pharmacy and get a Medicine. Then, go into the bar ( same one with the drunk guy ) and go up into the top door. There's a woman there, and she needs some medicine. ---If you give her the Disinfectant, you get Cologne. ---If you give her the Deodorant, you get Flower Cologne. ---If you give her the Digestive, you get the Sexy Cologne. Go to the pot shop in the NE of the first screen. He'll ask you to buy something in the Inn. Go sleep in the inn, in the middle of the night you'll find yourself in the vending machine. Buy one of the three then you wake up, go to the pot shop, give the guy what you bought and he'll give something in return. ---If you bought the 1st item you get Diamond Tiara ---If you bought the 2nd item you get Ruby Tiara ---If you bought the last one you get Glass Tiara Talk to the large man in the white shirt who's standing near the edge of the screen in the first area to get the Member's Card. Aeris won't come with you (obviously). Inside the Honeybee Inn, you'll find that the doors on the right side are locked, but if you chose the bottom option, you can look inside them and peer around using the control pad and the O button. If you look in the upper-right keyhole, you'll see a soon to be familiar face...a small version of Cait Sith! If you go to the north room and talk to the farthest girl on the right several times, you can choose the top option to make her dance faster and faster. When you're ready (you better brace yourself), you can do one or the other: Examine the lower-left door and pick the top option twice. In the room, talk to the girl and pick the top option three times to take a soak with Mukki and his friends. Answer however you like while in the tub and Cloud will be given the Bikini briefs. Or, examine the upper-left door and pick the top option twice. In ide, talk to the ghostly Cloud near the stone tub and Cloud will have a seizure. When you come to, all your HP and MP is restored, thanks to Mukki. Talk to him and choose the bottom option. Then talk to the girl and you'll get the Lingerie. After getting either item, you can return to the room where all the girls are and one will put makeup on you. Then go back to the clothes shop and dress up!! Go to the Don's place and the guy >ll let you in. Go up the stairs and in the room to your left in a Torture Chamber! Tifa will be there, she joins you group. Don't forget the Ether lying in the corner. Now it's time. Tifa, Aeris, Cloud all line up. Depending on what Cloud is wearing, the Don will make his choice. ---He'll pick Cloud if you're wearing the Silk Dress, Blonde Wig, an have the 'best' extra items (the Diamond Tiara, Sexy Cologne, and Lingerie or Bikini briefs. ---He'll pick Aeris if you're wearing the Silk Dress, the Blonde Wig, the Lingerie and the Sexy Cologne (in addition to anything else you may have). --- He'll pick Tifa if you're wearing the Silk Dress, Blonde Wig, an one or two of the extra items not mentioned above (or anything worse than that). If he picks Tifa/Aeris, read below: You go into a room with a buncha scrubs. They start chasing after you. Talk to them all, then Scotch, who's in the top of the room. Then Cloud will fight them all. You can't lose, it is too hard to lose =) Go out, into the torture room and help Aeris (or Tifa). Go up into the Don's room and the 3 will threaten him (ouch!!) For info. Before you leave, he'll ask you a question, it doesn't matter, what you pick, you'll still fall down to the sewers. If he picks Cloud =) Simple. Just answer anyway you like. If you try to make Cloud kiss Corneo, maybe you need to keep your hormones in check =). Same ending, you'll fall into the sewers. PS. do you see why it is T now? 1.5 sewers/train graveyard You land in a sewer. Before talking to the girls, get the potion by going up the steps, then talk to them then a boss will attack you. -------------------------------BOSS TIPS: APS------------------------ LV: 18 HP: 1800 MP: 0 WEAKNESS: fire STRENGTH: none Fire spells are good. There are 2 Sewer Tsunami attacks: If he beats his chest, it will do more damage to him (150-200) and 40 50 damage to each member. If he jumps up and down, it will do 80-90 damage to each member and 5 -65 damage to him. His Lick causes Sadness and Does about 10 damage. Use curative items when you need to. A great time to build Limit Breaks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Climb up the ladder where Aeris was lying, then go right, down across the sewer, up the stairs get the yellow Steal materia, and jump down the hole. The rest is straight forward. Go up the barrel, climb up the ladder, blah blah. Finally you reach the Train Graveyard.Save, then check the oil drum for a Hi-Potion. Climb up the ladder to get up on the first train. Keep going till you reach a crossbeam. Jump on it, go left, check the oil drum. Go in and out the trains for items. Get up on the bar, got to the right, jump off. Go down, get the item, up the ladder, go North, jump off, got N to the 2nd screen. Here, circle left around the car to get a Potion. Circle left again to find an oil can with an Ether inside of it. Go north and enter the train to the right to move the other train car out of the way. Climb atop the formerly blocked car to net a Hi-Potion. Now, rid the other train back backwards, climb onto the eastern train car, jump onto the train you just moved, and climb across it and the last car before going down the ladder to get back to the front part of the Train Graveyard. 1.6 sector 7 pillar You arrive at the pillar. Wedge falls. Climb up the stairs, talk to Biggs if you want, keep climbing, talk to Jessie, you reach the top where Barret joins you. Re-equip then fight Reno. -----------------------------------BOSS TIPS: RENO------------------- LV: 17 HP: 1000 MP: 0 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none BEWARE!! This dude is pretty tough. His pyramid can be broken ONLY y attacking it. If he does it to all 3, you lose. His electromagrod does about 60-100. Just hang in there, cure, limit, magic. You can even move to the back row if you want and just smack him with magic. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After that Sector 7 is...well...gone. 1.7 the upper world You are prompted to go to Aeris's house. First, go back to the park and get the Sense materia. Then make your way thru the debris. Go to Aeris' house, and talk to her mother, she'll tell you about Aeris and her 'powers'. Then go to Wall Market. Go to the screen where the Don's place is. Go to the Weapon Shop and buy 3 batteries from the worker, then follow the kids. Climb up the wire. At the 2nd screen, climb up, turn left. Go near the box and enter the 1st battery. The propeller will spin. Climb up the yellow slope to the prop., jump to the black ladder, climb up. Put in another battery, climb up the lever. Before you jump to the bar, climb up, put in the 3rd battery to get an Ether. Now you gotta jump on the bar. Can't help ya here, it won't take ya long if you have a brain =) Climb up, then switch to the rope, climb, switch to the pole, and VOILA!!! 1.8 shinra hq NOTE: This level is awesome!! It is very tricky, but with me as your guide it'll be a cinch =). There are 2 things you can do. Both are pretty straight forward. If you bust in, you'll fight a lot, climb the stairs to the 2nd level. There's an Item Shop you can buy from, in the NE corner. To the left (with the couple) is a sweet little FMV. Go in the elevator. It goes crazy, it doesn't matter where you stop, you'll get to 59 eventually. Once I stopped on 56 and some businessman got scared and wet his pants!! Kill the 3 red guards. Get the KeyCard 60. Go to 60 on the elevator. If you sneak in, go left, then ahead. You will climb a LOT of stairs. But you get an Elixir on the way. You'll come at 59, kill the 3 guards, get KeyCard 60, go to 60 on elevator. This part is tough. Go to the left and in the room. Now you gotta run to the first gold statue and stay behind it. When the guards turn and start walking, run to the next one. If you get caught, you fight 2 big robots in an attack from both sides. Cue Barret and Tifa. The next part is REALLY hard, the guards run, you gotta be really quick and alert. Cue Barret and Tifa. If you're really having trouble, you'll be in the next room after 10-15 failures. Climb up to 61. Go thru the door. Talk to everyone until you come upon one that asks you something, and your 2 answers are "Do you know Aeris" OR "......" Pick the bottom one, and you get KeyCard 62. If you don't understand KeyCards you can talk to the lady near the elevators. Or if you are too lazy, then KeyCards are basically cards that let you access levels up to the number on the KeyCard. There! Now you don't have to talk to the lady! Go to 62. Talk to Mayor Domino. Stuck? Maybe you could just keep guessing, pay Hart 3500 gil, or consult me =) The prize is KeyCard 65 and an Elemental Materia! Here's what to do: Go in each library, read the sign outside to find out what department it is. Look at the bookshelves. There are 2 files in each shelf, 3 shelves so makes 6. Find the one that is out of place, (doesn't match with the rest) Look at the number. Count that many letters in the title (no spaces) That is one letter. Do that for the other three. Unscramble to form the password!! Don't go straight to 65 yet. Go to 63. Go in the computer room. Examine the comp. (Press O). It will let you open 3 doors. Go up to the N corner. Open the top door. Go to NW, DON'T open the one in front of you, open the one below you. Go in the red door for A Coupon. Climb up the airduct, go down, right, up to get a B Coupon. Go left, open the door, get C Coupon. Go back into room B, up the airduct, down right into comp. room. Coupon change, and voila! Ya got all 3!! 64 is a rest place. Save, rest move on. 65. Go to the leftmost rooms, go in the top one, open the bottom chest. Go in the central room, and put the parts in. A chest opens. This will happen repeatedly, so I will just list the order of the chests. Same room, top one. Lower room-bottom, lower room-top. NE room, only one, then go to the stairs and get KeyCard 66. Try this. People say it has been done, but I can't do it. Ins tead of climbing up the stairs, go the elevator to 66. As soon as you get off, bolt to the conference room right in front of you. With luck you might make it. Any info on whether it is possible email me at (tns17@hotmail.com) and with PROOF. Go to the NW bathroom, enter the stall, climb up the duct to eavesdrop on the meeting. Go back down and follow Hojo to 67. He'll be in the room with Jenova, and a tiger. He leaves, Cloud has a seizure. He comes to, leave, go N, save and get Poison materia from the chest. Go up to 68. There you'll name the tiger, (Red XIII), and fight a boss. ------------------------BOSS TIPS: HO5 12 & company------------------ HO5 12 HO5 12 - opt A,B,C LV: 19 LV: 7 HP: 1000 HP: 300 MP: 120 MP: 48 WEAKNESS: none WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: poison STRENGTH: poison Just go for the main guy, Back row, and nail him with limits and magic. Red XIII comes with a Fire and Sense! Star Pendant is helpful. Be sure to cure often. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Get the Enemy Skill materia, split your party. Get KeyCard 68 from the guy up top, and get the 2 potions, and 2 more from where he ran to. Go to 66 elevator, where you'll be captured. You're brought in the holding cells. Talk, go to sleep, wake up, you see the guard is dead, Wake up Tifa, she'll wake up Aeris while you get Barret and Red XIII. Follow him and the blood tracks up to Level 70, where you see President Shinra with a sword thru his back, dead. Go outside, door to N, where you'll meet Rufus. Then, Cloud is left alone and the other 4 go to 69. Tifa waits at 69 for Cloud while the rest go down. Unequip and reequip their materia, then just go to the elevator, there you'll fight two bosses in a row. ----------------------------BOSS TIPS: HUNDRED GUNNER---------------- LV: 18 HP: 1600 MP: 0 WEAKNESS: lightning STRENGTH: none Since there is no need to attack, you can shift to the back row if you want. It would probably be a good idea. His first few attacks are Aux. Artillery, which does 100 damage to one person. And Hidden artillery which does 125 to 1 person. Then an explosion will occur, and he gets new attacks. Main artillery does 70-90 damage to all people. Another explosion, then a sensor cannon charges, then does 110 to all, (unless in back row). Just use Bolt and Limits. Also, you can have Barret equip Elemental+Bolt in his weapon and it does the same damage as Bolt, but doesn't use any MP! --------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------BOSS TIPS: HELI GUNNER---------------------- LV: 19 HP: 1000 MP: 0 WEAKNESS: lightning, wind STRENGTH: none This guy is a pain. He's easy though, and you shouldn't have a problem. Bolt and Limits, same as above. His AB cannon and C cannon are the same, one causes sleep the other, poison. His flying drill does 80-140 do one person. And Spinning Bodyblow does 60-100 damage. Easy fight. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The scene cuts back to Rufus and Cloud. Unequip the others' materia, but before fighting him, be sure you have Elemental + Bolt in your armor, Poison and Restore materia. Then fight him. ----------------BOSS TIPS: RUFUS & DARK NATION----------------------- RUFUS DARK NATION LV: 21 LV: 18 HP: 500 HP: 140 MP: 0 MP: 80 WEAKNESS: none WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: none Don't go after the dog unless you didn't listen to your guide (me) an didn't equip Elemental+Bolt in your armor =( Don't worry about the Barrier junk. The dog will cast Bolt repetitively (told ya so) which will do only 40-50 IF YOU FOLLOWED MY INSTRUCTIONS. =) Rufus's shotgun does no more than 50, so you're in good shape. Just keep casting Bio on Rufus, he's a goner. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After the fight, go down to 69 with Tifa. Then it'll cut to the other 3. You can go back to the item shop if you want. Barret will start shooting, then Tifa runs down and...... =) ----------------------------------G BIKE GAME------------------------ Don't give up. It is hard at first, but when you get used to it you'll love it. Do whatever with your party. (Sq.) is attack on left. (O) is attack on right. Move lft/rt. If the car is attacked, you lose life. This is important since you have to fight a boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------BOSS TIPS: MOTOR BALL------------------ LV: 19 HP: 2600 MP: 120 WEAKNESS: lightning STRENGTH: fire Remember you start out in the back row, so attacking won't help much. Cast Bolt and Ice. Bolt does 225-250, Ice does 100-125. Limits are good as well. His attacks, Arm Attack 40 to one (Back row) roll, 20 all Twin Burner 90-100 to all, Rolling Fire 200 to all. He is pretty tough. Quite hard at this stage. It helps to have Elemental+Fire in armor. Aren't you glad you listened to me and got that password right on the first time? =) --------------------------------------------------------------------- And, then, the story goes on... outside of Midgar. Go NE to Kalm, if you choose R1 to display 1st person view, you'll be able to see it. Remember you can save anytime on the World Map. (yaaay!!) R1 displays 1st person view, R2 displays aerial view. When you are in 1st person, R1/L1 is to rotate view. 1.9 kalm/cloud's past Go in the Inn after you've finished shopping. There, Cloud tells his story. It will take a while, so be prepared. You start out in a truck with Sephiroth. He briefs you. You go to Cloud's hometown in Nibelheim. On your way you fight a Dragon. Sephiroth will smack it though. You arrive at Nibelheim. You can do lots of cool things, especially in Tifa's house. (Hint: search her dresser)I don't wanna give it away though =) Go to the Inn and get some sleep by talking to Sephiroth twice. You wake up, and it's on to Mt. Nibel. Follow Tifa on the bridge and it'll break. You fall, and miss a guard. Go up, right up till you reach the cave. Take the right path and go straight to the exit where you'll see a Mako fountain. Go in the reactor. Follow Sephiroth. When he prompts you to look in the glass, talk to him again. Only then you will look in the glass. A short scene follows. Now you will be asked if you wanna save. Save. It doesn't take long. In the house, go up, right, thru the wall (you should see it if you have Select on) down the stairs to the library. Talk to him, then exit the library. Sephiroth reads and reads. Cloud wakes up. Go down to the library. There, Sephiroth goes mad, and leaves. Exit and you shall see that the village is burning. Follow Zangan's instructions. Then you'll see Sephiroth killing some people. Then you're in the reactor. Look familiar? It is the same scene when Cloud recalls in Sector 5 reactor! Follow Tifa inside. Sephiroth wounds Tifa. Pick her up, and lay her aside. Follow Sephiroth and..... 1.10 chocobo farm/mythril mines Leave Kalm (buy stuff if you want), and go to the Chocobo farms. Talk to the Chocobo (press O) and choose 1st option (Wark, i think), they'll do a dance, which gives you the Summon Choco/Mog materia. Then go to the NW house for an Inn and info on Chocobos. Then go right to the stables. Talk to the kid in overalls. Choco Billy will give you info. Then he'll sell you the Chocobo Lure Materia for 2000 gil. Buy some Tantal Greens. These greens keep Chocobos busy the longest. Go out on the tracks, equip the materia, fight a Chocobo, throw him some greens, kill the enemies, VOILA a chocobo. Cross the swamp, but be sure the snake-shadow doesn't attack you. He is very VERY hard at this stage, even if you beat him, nothing special happens, and he keeps coming back. I'll put his tips here anyway. ------------------REALLY BIG MONSTER TIPS: MIDGAR ZOLOM--------------- LV: 26 HP: 4000 MP: 348 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: fire This dude can attack for 100-200, tail swipe a character off-screen, and Beta enemy skill, which does 1000-1200 pts damage; fire-based. So basically, you're toast. If one person gets swiped off screen and the rest die, it's NOT a game over. However, come back here after you get the Tiny Bronco because Beta is really awesome. --------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll see a big snake stuck on a big stick (I could use more words but oh well). I think it is supposed to be what Sephiroth did to the Midgar Zolom. Exit the screen then enter the mines. Inside, go to your right, up the stairs for an Ether and a Tent, up the vine for a Long Range materia. Go to the entrance, down for a Mind Source then left for a scene with the Turks. After they leave, go N for an Elixir. Go back then up the vine and exit to the World Map. 1.11 fort condor/junon NOTE: Another cool level. Lots of things you can do in Junon especially. ANOTHER NOTE: Yuffie is availible now. Refer to section 4.1. If you are in 1st person when you exit, rotate then go straight till you see a tower with a bird on it. That is Fort Condor. Go in, and ask the guy for directions to Junon. There's stuff you can get in there, but it's nothing new. So exit, go W to Junon. It has a cannon sticking out of it. Inside, go to the SW exit, stairs. There, a girl is playing with a dolphin. Suddenly a boss attacks. -----------------------------BOSS TIPS: BOTTOMSWELL------------------ LV: 23 HP: 2500 MP: 100 WEAKNESS: wind STRENGTH: none Use Choco/Mog. Go to back row since you can't reach him with attack. His shield thing is like Reno's pyramid, except you cast a damaging magic spell for it to wear off. His tail does 110 to one. MoonStrike does 110 to one, but he uses it 3x. Tidal Wave does 110 to all. He's annoying, but you can handle him. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you get to give Priscilla CPR. Oh joy..... =) Just press Square to inhale. A tip: you can go up to 9 breaths (you'll hear 9 little >uhh's and the bar will go up 9 times) if you go over that, you'll have to start over. It's impossible to fail, because then you can't go on with the story. Go in the first house from the entrance. Get some rest. That Darned Voice will talk to Cloud, then Tifa wakes him up. Go to the group, then up the steps. Priscilla will come and give you the Shiva materia. Then go to the steps and Priscilla will give you a whistle for the dolphin, and Barret takes your PHS. When you go in the water, don't move, just press Square. You'll miss it, but press Sq. again and you're there. Climb up to get a nice view of the Airship Highwind. Press the yellow button to go down, then go thru the exit. Here's the fun part. Go in the dressing room and change into a Shinra Uniform. Then after a while, you'll find that you are late for the parade. You have to sneak in. This is hard. I can never do this (*CORRECTION. I managed to get 53% on 3/17/99) Just sneak in the back, then press O when your feet move forward (in step). Depending on how well you do, you'll get a reward. (Approximate ranges) 1% - 20% = Grenade 21% - 39% = Potion x6 39% - 50% = Ether x6 51% - 99% = 5000 gil (I would go for this) Now you go to some place. Then you go back to the dressing room and get new instructions. Now you are free to buy items and materia, etc. Just explore around. There are lots of things to do in Junon. You can find 2 1/35 soldiers. I think if you have all 12 you can get free troops in the battle at Fort Condor. 2 are in Junon, the rest you have to win in the Speed Square at Gold Saucer. They are in one of the Beginner's Houses (somewhere in there). When you reach the dock, the commander will tell you what button to press. Just follow his instructions. Once again, depending on how well you perform, you get a reward. Oh, for the final 'spinning gun' salute, just face forward and press any button. 000 - 050 = Silver Glasses Accessory 060 - 090 = HP Plus Independent Materia (I would go for this) 100 - 200 = Force Stealer Weapon (for Cloud) (you can get @ corel, you won't miss it) Go on the ship after it is over. If you do not, Red XIII will appear and tell you to get on the ship. 1.12 the boat/costa del sol/corel mines First, get the All materia, if Yuffie isn't in the way. Talk to Aeris; she is the blue shinra guard NOT near the door. Go up, and talk to Tifa; she is on the ledge. Talk to Barret (it won't say it's him, a glitch perhaps) he talks about Costa Del Sol. Then talk to Red XIII, he is N of barret position. Then go back down and talk to Aeris. Go back up and you'll see Barret is not there. Go thru the path and you'll see him. Talk to him, then an alarm will go off. You'll get together and form a new party. Go down to the door and go inside. Get the chest, then talk to the guy in red. Then Sephiroth will come out of the ground and he throws Jenova's arm at you, summoning a Boss. -------------------------BOSS TIPS: JENOVA: BIRTH-------------------- LV: 25 HP: 4000 MP: 110 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none This is one mean baddie. Its regular laser does 120 to one, but she uses it 3x. The Tail laser does 140 to all, and W-Laser does 240 to one, but she uses that also 3x. Her gas does 120 and induces Poison. She also casts Stop which is 34 MP. You can move to back row, but I don't and build up Limits instead. Use curative Materia and Items often. Shiva does a good amount. Choco/Mog can be very helpful since it can randomly induce Stop. Limits are wonderful, Ice and Bolt work well for magic. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Grab the Ifrit materia, then exit. Leave the dock, then you'll see a scene with Rufus and Heidegger. Buy some stuff. You can get Platinum Bangle which is double materia AP. If Red XIII was not in your party when you fought Jenova, you can kick the soccer ball at him really hard (walk up to it and press O) and it's pretty funny. =) So leave when you're done. R1 to see the path near the mountain. Cross it, then enter the cave. Talk to the guy, then move on. The 3rd screen is a Mako reactor. There's nothing inside. 4th screen just go across. Save. If you fall, press left/right + O to get treasure. There are 3 places where this situation occurs. On the right is a Star Pendant, the left is Wizard Staff. Take the top path to get a W Machine Gun, down, then turn around and go up for a Turbo Ether and a Transform Materia. Keep going, take the upper path, go straight, and in the box. Choose DO It and the tracks will lower. Don't head back yet, keep going until you hear birds. Press O to climb up where you'll see a bird's nest. (awwwwwwww..............=) If you choose to take the treasure, you'll be attacked by a Cocatrice and get 10 Phoenix Downs. NOW go back, take the lower path, go across. At the fork, go left, down, then cut across, you'll reach a treasure room. Go back take the right path, cross the bridge and you're in Corel. Talk to Barret. You can get a Force Stealer here (I told you so.) Go to the Gold Saucer, at the ropeway station. Barret will tell you his story. Watch the FMV (this is pretty neat). 1.13 gold saucer Buy a ticket. The lady will explain the rules, explaining GP (it used to be GP for all the other FF games, I wonder why they changed it to gil). If you have any q's, refer to section 6.1, 6.2, 6.3. Go in, choose someone to go with you, and explore around. If you go to Wonder Square, you'll hear some funky kickass music and meet Cait Sith. He joins your party rather forcefully.... Now, if you go to the Battle Square, you'll see a lot of dead bodies. Dio comes, blames you, and dumps you in the Corel Prison. Follow Barret. Save. There will be a guy following you. I have no clue as to what importance this has. Go in the house with 2 red exits. There will be Barret. He tells you the rest of his story. After you get your party, go the other exit to a bar/Item Shop. You can sleep in the truck too. When you're done, go to where you came from. You will see a ladder going down. There is supposed to be a Test0 monster (in the Japan version. Maybe in that so-called International version as well...). Anyway, go to the left exit. Go thru the gate in the next screen and go right. You'll run into Dyne, Barret's buddy. Be sure to equip Barret with good stuff, because only he fights Dyne. ------------------------------BOSS TIPS: DYNE------------------------ LV: 25 HP: 1200 MP: 20 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none This guy can be pretty tough since you have to fight him with Barret only. Choco/Mog is probably most helpful for its ability to Stop. His Needle Gun does 150, S mines are 160, and the Molotov Cocktail is 180. Use Big Shot or Grenade Bomb (limits) and cure OFTEN. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Dyne gives Barret his pendant, then jumps off a cliff. You then find yourself back in the truck, with the manager. Ester comes and becomes your chocobo manager. In order to get out, you gotta win the Race. Go up in the lobby, get the summon Ramuh materia lying in the corner. Your controls: Select - Toggle between Auto/Manual Square - speed up X - slow down O - sprint L1+L2+R1+R2 - regain stamina and run faster Bonne chance! 1.14 gongaga & cosmo canyon When you win, you get a buggy, which crosses shallow rivers and deserts. O is to get on, X is to get off. You can even hitch a ride on the ferry between Junon and Costa Del Sol. Cross the river and you'll see a big black thing, go there. This is optional, but I would do it anyway for the Deathblow and Titan materia. Enter, and you'll fight the....Turks. ----------------------------BOSS TIPS: RENO & RUDE------------------- RENO RUDE LV: 22 LV: 23 HP: 2000 HP: 2000 MP: 80 MP: 135 WEAKNESS: none WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: none Nail these dudes with Summon and Limit Break. Just go after Reno. When he leaves, Rude will too. Reno's attack does 70, but his Turk Light does 225. Rude's punch does 200, and he can cast Fire, which does 100. These guys pack it in. So be sure you got some Phoenix Downs on ya. If their really giving you trouble, move to the back row. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After that, go right to the ruined reactor. Listen to Scarlet and Tseng. After they're gone, go to where Scarlet was standing and search for Titan materia. Leave, then go left. At the next fork go left for a Deathblow materia, then go back and go right to the town. This place doesn't have much other than shops, the SE house has a scene with Tifa and Aeris, if they're in your group. Go N to Cosmo Canyon, you'll cross a river, if you try to go past it, your buggy will short. Enter, then go up the stairs. Explore around. GO to the left and work your way to the top. You'll see Red XIII and his 'grandpa' (how on earth, that's what I think) he tells you to go get 2 pals. So do that and come back. This part is cool. You see all the things in the universe. Bugenhagen gives you a lesson on Spirit Energy (mako). (I think that's really cool how Square developed a whole theory and science on their fake world). When that's done, go down to the big bonfire. Talk to everybody, then Red. Bugenhagen comes, and asks Cloud, Red, and another one to come along with him. He leads you to a cave. Go down, and right. Break all the rocks (inside the caves). Eventually you'll open a door. Go in it. Here, go left. DON'T RUN, WALK ON THE GOO. Go down, then left for an Added Effect materia. This is awesome when paired up with Hades (which you get in Disc 2.) Go back to the entrance of the 2nd screen, then up, left, down the steps for a chest to the N and S. Go up, left, and up to exit. In the 3rd screen, you'll see 5 holes ( i'll number them 1-5, 1 is on the right). 1 and 5 lead to each other. 3 is a dead end. In hole 2 there is a spider web (you fight a spider, cast Mini on him if he pisses you off) and an X-Potion. DO NOT USE THE X-POTION. Hole 4 has a spider web. If you go left, and down, when you're till hidden, go right for a chest. Left and up is a dead end. Up is a spider web, then to the left is a Turbo Ether, and up is the exit. The last screen is a boss. --------------------------BOSS TIPS: GI NATTAK & company------------- GI NATTAK SOUL FIRE LV: 29 LV: 21 HP: 5500 LV: 1300 MP: 200 MP: 220 WEAKNESS: holy WEAKNESS: wind, holy STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: fire If you listened to me and saved an X-Potion, all you need to do is us it on Gi Nattak. End of match. Otherwise, Limits and Summon. Don't worry about the Soul Fires. Actually, worry about them a lot, because you'll need to cure after their havoc. NOW YOU SEE WHY YOU NEEDED AN X-POTION!!! You can still beat him without one, but its harder. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Get the Gravity materia, then continue. Bugenhagen and Red XIII will be let alone. They talk. Cloud ends up at the bonfire. Just as you leave Cosmo Canyon, Red XIII comes back. Now, head north to Nibelheim. Oh yeah, your buggy's fixed. 1.15 nibelheim/mt. nibel *NOTE: You can get Vincent here. Refer to 4.2 for details. You enter, and the town is fixed. It's not burned down. Go in the different houses. If you go in Tifa's house, you'll see why: In her room there is a letter on her desk. Read it. The black shadows give you items, at least some of them do. The next part you can skip, however, I would do it because you can get summon Odin and Sephiroth gives you Destruct materia. Go in, go left, then up, right, up for a chest. Back at the entrance, go right, up left for a chest. GO to the 2nd floor. Go left for a chest. Go up and there is a safe. In it is Summon Odin, Key to the basement (see 4.2 for details) and a Boss, Lost Number. --------------------------BOSS TIPS: LOST NUMBER--------------------- LV: 36 HP: 7000 MP: 300 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none This boss is one tough cookie. Choco/Mog is valuable, for its Stop aility. Titan and Ramuh are good. His attack does 300 and his magic does 50. After a while, one of his halves disappears. If he is purple, his physical attacks are stronger (1000) or red, his magic is stronger (800). He is quite difficult to beat, but you should be able to do it. Remember the power of Choco/Mog. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Grab the key and the Odin materia. The key is for getting Vincent (see 4.2). Go to the right. Up is a chest. GO thru the wall (remember the flashback) and down to the library. Talk to Sephiroth, and he will give you a Destruct materia before flying away. Guess where now? Mt. Nibel. Exit the house and go N. You'll leave Nibelheim and enter Mt. Nibel. Follow the path. At the first fork, go up for a Rune blade. Keep going. At the second fork, near the bridge, go up, then take the lower path to get a chest. Cross the bridge. Go down the 2nd pipe for a PowerSoul, and the 4th one for a All materia. Don't touch the crab...yet. Exit, then jump down to the cave below you. Enter it, then go right. Go up, get the chest, then exit. Get the Elemental materia near the Mako fountain. Go right in the next screen. Go up, then left for a chest, then right to exit. Follow path to the reactor. There is nothing inside. Go right. Now you can fight the crab. He is one helluva boss. -------------------------BOSS TIPS: MATERIA KEEPER------------------- LV: 38 HP: 8400 MP: 300 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: fire Another mean dude. GO TO THE BACK ROW. His regular attack will do around 300. The Big Horn does 300, and Hell Combo does 400. Choco/Mog again proves itself very valuable. Odin does 1500 damage to it, so that is quite helpful as well. Be sure to equip Eneemy Skill, for it uses Trine, which is quite useful. However, once I killed it so quickly it never got a chance to use it! You can, too if Choco/Mog Stops it. I casted it twice, and froze him twice. I guess I got lucky =). But Trine will do 600 damage to each person so have Elemental + Ramuh/Lightning in armor. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Grab the Counter materia, then exit. 1.16 rocket town Go around the mountains to Rocket Town. Explore around. Be sure to get a Barrier and Time materia from the Item Shop. Grab items from chests in the people's houses. (peoples' houses? not sure) Look at the rocket with the old man outside the Item Shop for a Yoshiyuki. You'll have to talk to him twice then pick the top option. You'll enter one empty house. Go to the backyard and you'll see a plane, and Shera. She'll tell you to go to the rocket. So go to the rocket. Climb across the stairs and up the ladder and you'll see Cid. Name him, and you'll get to ask three questions. When you're done with him, go back down to Shera. Cid will come and then Palmer will. Cid goes with Palmer. You see Cid yelling at Rufus, then Shera brings you in and locks the door. She prompts you to go in the backyard where the Tiny Bronco is, and where you fight Palmer. ----------------------------BOSS TIPS: PALMER------------------------ LV: 38 HP: 6000 MP: 240 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none His Mako Gun randomly casts Fire 2, Ice 2, or Bolt 2. That's pretty much all he can do, but it does about 700-800 damage. Sometimes he pats his @$$, (I have no clue why). Just use summons and spells. Odin does 1800! When you beat him, he runs away, but gets hit by a truck =) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hop in the Tiny Bronco. You fly over Rocket Town. Cid jumps on. Its tail gets hit, and its only purpose now is a boat. You press O to get on, X to get off. It can go in shallow waters and rivers. You can get on and off at the beaches (sandy shoreline). Cid mentions something about the Temple of the Ancients. But for now, head to Corel, then to the Gold Saucer. 1.17 gold saucer II Buy a pass (if you have to). You can do whatever, but if you just wanna get on with it, go to the battle arena and into Dio's Show Room. In the middle will be the KeyStone. Examine it, then Dio will come up to you and say he'll give it to you if you entertain him. So you basically get a free pass in the Battle Arena. He'll give it to you even if you lose, but if you win, he'll also give you a Choco Feather and a Protect Vest if you win. Refer to 6.1 for details on how the Battle Arena works. Now, if you try to leave the Gold Saucer, the maintenance person will say that the tramway is broken. At that point, Cait Sith will come and tell you to stay at the Ghost Hotel. A brief recap of what is going on will occur. Now comes a date. Although it is usually Aeris, you can get Tifa or Yuffie as well. See 4.5 for tips on how to get each one. Some wackos in Japan even managed to get Barret. I tried to get Barret, but my efforts were fruitless. I won't list the parts of the date, otherwise it is no fun =). After the date, you will see Cait Sith stole the Keystone. Chase him. He ends up giving the stone to Tseng. After Cloud gets through with him, you find yourself back in the Hotel. Make your party, then head to the Tiny Bronco. See the dot SW of Fort Condor? That is your next destination. *NOTE: you can stop by Bone Village to get Summon Kjata. See 1.19. 1.18 temple of the ancients Enter the temple. You'll see a black shadow. Tseng is wounded, apparently by Sephiroth. He gives you the KeyStone. Place it on the altar, then descend below. See the little Smurf? You gotta follow him. Go up, left, past the steps, up, and down the 2nd flight of steps. Climb down the vine, and get the chest. Go up the long vine to the far right, and follow him. If you try to enter the door you'll get shoved back out (you'll see why later). From here, its pretty simple to follow him. He leads you into a room. Get the chest, and talk to him. You can buy items, rest, or save. After you're done, go down the steps with the blue item on it. Climb down the vine, get the chest, and go down the steps. Now, before you continue following the second Smurf, go thru the passage way in front of you, and up the vine on the side. Head left for a Luck Plus materia. Now you can go to the exit where the old man was. Brace yourself! What you have to do is crouch under the hollow part of the rock. I really can't help you here. If you keep getting squashed though, you'll find yourself at the end. When you reach the end, Aeris senses a powerful presence. Go to the pool where you can grab the Morph materia. After it's done, ask the smurf to rest or save. Then exit. You find yourself at a big clock. I'll go ahead and list which each door leads to. I - A Jamnesmy and 2 Toxic Frogs will attack you. You don't get any thing for beating them either. II - Dead End III - You will be attacked by 2 8 Eyes. They drain for 1600, so watch out. IIII - (it should be IV) Aeris's Ultimate Weapon, Princess Guard. V - A chest with a Ribbon. VI - (listed below) VII - Trumpet Shell, a weapon for Cait Sith. VIII - Megalixir. IX - Dead End X - This is where you came from. XI - Dead End. XII - Don't go here yet. You go here after you're done with Room VI. If you get knocked down (stand on the hour/minute hand and wait for the second hand to come by) you'll fight 2 Ancient Dragons. You'll get Nail Bat, weapon for Cloud. You'll find yourself at the door you couldn't go thru before. Just work your way back. In Room VI, you have to catch a Smurf with the key to the door with the murals you saw at the pool. He goes on a set course. Just pick a door and keep going thru it, and you'll catch him. The chest at the bottom are a pair of Work Gloves. After resting/saving, go inside. There will be a few scenes with Sephiroth. Then you get to fight a boss. ----------------------------BOSS TIPS: RED DRAGON-------------------- LV: 39 HP: 6800 MP: 300 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: fire SWITCH TO BACK ROW. In fact, you should do that before you enter the battle. Have one person equip Barrier+All (MBarrier too) and cast it from the back row. That way his attacks are reduced to 25%. With out the barrier, his Bite does 500, Tail 300, Red Dragon Breath 800 (barrier doesn't help for this, equip Elemental+Fire/Ifrit). Smack him with Odin, Leviathan, Kjata and Bio2. Titan does a decent amount. Hang in there! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Grab the Bahamut materia, then go right to the floating pyramid where Sephiroth was. Cait Sith will call. You now have to go to Room XII There you'll fight another boss. ------------------------BOSS TIPS: DEMONS GATE----------------------- LV: 45 HP: 10000 MP: 400 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none Back row, then Barrier + All. The only summon that does damage to him is Bahamut (2000). The others do 50 if you're lucky. Odin does 200. Bio2 is decent. His cave in does 400, The Rock does 370, Demon Rush does 300 all (with Barrier AND back row). However, you should be able to dematerialize him easily. Throw all the no slot, high power weapons (e.g. Nail Bat). They do 2000 apiece! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Cait Sith comes in. He reads Cloud and Aeris's fortune (awwwww...=) It's pretty funny when Tifa's there too. Then he goes off to solve the puzzles. When he's done, Cloud will jump down and get the Black Materia. Then Sephiroth possesses him, and gets the Black Materia from Cloud. Cloud starts beating up Aeris (I didn't like her that much) and Cait Sith (II) comes back (kinda quickly). After a dream, Cloud wakes up in Gongaga (of all places). Now go to the Tiny Bronco. See the northern island? You have to go to the southernmost dot (Bone Village). 1.19 bone village/sleeping forest/city of the ancients Go in, and ask the guy sitting down to dig for the Lunar Harp. Set one person where the first guy was standing (the person whom you first see digging). Climb up the ladder and go right to place the second one. Go to the left and near the exit of the Sleeping Forest for the 3rd guy. Set off the bomb. The line of vision should coincide with the SW tip of the tent (near there). Search the box to get it, then go to the forest. In the 2nd screen it will turn green. Get the red leaf floating around (summon Kjata), then proceed. Get the chest under the log, then go back up and thru the log. Follow the path on down. Then enter the tree-looking thing on the World Map. Go left. Enter the house for a chest and a save spot. Then go right into the crystal chamber. Go down the steps to get an Aurora Armlet. Then go back to the main entrance and go right. The first house has a chest, the second a chest and a rest spot. Cloud will wake up in the middle of the night. Then you have to go to the main entrance and go to the middle. Keep going straight. At the broken down shack, go in, then to the top for a Comet materia. Go down the steps (FYI, you couldn't have before sleeping because a fish was here). This screen shot is awesome. The winding steps last forever, and the little castle provides a magical touch. Hats off to SquareSoft (if you haven't done so already). SAVE, then go across the stones to Aeris. Cloud will have a seizure, and will almost kill Aeris until his pals tell him to stop. Then comes the FMV you'll have nightmares over. Watch. Curse. Fight a boss. ---------------------------BOSS TIPS: JENOVA LIFE-------------------- LV: 50 HP: 10000 MP: 300 WEAKNESS: earth STRENGTH: water The 2 things I hate about this fight: 1) Aqualung does 1500 damage to all unless one is wearing a Water ring (hint, hint). There are two options of fighting: 1) if you're superpatient, have her kill your pals with Aqualung, the have her waste MP on the one with a Water Ring. When she's out of MP, lay the smack on her + and get all the AP. 2) otherwise, wait until she's just finished her attack, then Revive someone (preferably the curer) with luck, her next attack will target the one with the Ring, which gives the curer time to cure him/herself. Repeat with the 3rd character. The Blue Flame does 460, Blue light 420. You can stay in front row since all her attacks are unaffected by back row. Titan, Odin, Bahamut, Kjata are splendid. Comet is good. Easy fight. --------------------------------------------------------------------- A final word: Aeris is gone. There is no resurrection. Sorry. You could keep a separate file and do little things with her if you want (like get her L4 Limit, man it rocks), but unless you be a loser and use a GameShark (which is pitiful) she is dead. =( 2 DISC II 2.1 escape from the city You'll end up in the cone house. Go outside. Cloud will have a seizure, and will see Sephiroth. Follow the path that Sephiroth was on. In the next screen, walk on the fish-rock, then go right to get a Viper Halberd. Then climb up the thorns. Just walk up to it and the rest is done automatically. Then go right and around to the cave. In the cave, go tp the 2nd crevice and climb up. When it prompts you, go left. Then walk over to the 3rd crevice and go up, and right for a chest. Go back down, then right. Then go right and when 2 options appear, choose the bottom one for another chest. Now, go up and left, then up to the 3rd chest. Go back in the crevice, then down and left. Then go up to the large opening with a ladder. Going down is a Magic Plus materia. Then go up, and exit. 2.2 icicle inn You'll end up outside. Go around the mountains to Icicle Inn. R2 might help more. Use the map if you need to. When you enter, you can do lots of things. If you go in the first house, it is a weapon store. The house with all the equipment shows videos of Professor Gast and Ifalna, Aeris's mother. There is an inn, and a pub downstairs. Now go talk to the guy in the far back and the Turks will come. If you dodge Elena's punch, she runs (falls) away. If you get hit, you wake up in the house with all the equipment. Now go to the middle house and get the kid's snowboard. (You couldn't do this earlier.) Then go to the house with the snowman and grab the map off the wall. There are also some items. Now, the fun begins. Go to the exit the man was near and..... --------------------------SNOWBOARDING GAME------------------------- Controls: Up -- start (when not moving) Down & Square -- brake X -- jump R1 -- tight turns when going lft/rt Left/Right -- go left and right Just hold R1 all the time for tight turns. If you jump while going really fast, you can go really high! You can also do this as many times as you want. When the forks appear, at the first one go left, then the second one go right. This will have you at the gate. Go S, to exit, then back up to Icicle Inn! The balloons don't mean anything for now, but this game appears in the Gold Saucer, it will be explained more in 6.2. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.3 the wilderness If you went left, left you end up at the cave. If you went left, right you end up at the entrance. If you went right, left you end up at the tree. If you went right, right you end up at the forest. There's nothing in the cave, so don't bother. Nothing is in the buried airplane, the tree, river log, stone face either. In the forest there is a Mind Source. In the ice floe area, there is a Potion, and if you make it across, you can get a Safety Bit. There is an Elixir at the Ice Boulders. At the Steaming Lakes, touch the water, (you'll see why). You can get an Added Cut Materia at the Mountains. When you reach the Nmost pt. there will be a huge ice field. Go right. Use the markers to keep your sense of direction. When you reach the next screen, keep going right until there is a cave in the E corner. Go in and talk to the lady. You'll fight Snow (if you touched the water). This is a regular monster, I don't know why it is a boss. Just cast Fire2, Ifrit and she is gone. You get Alexander materia when you kill her. Go back to the snow field. There is an All materia here, get it if you want. Go N. You'll end up in a shack of Holzoff. Oh yeah, if you pass out in the glacier, this Is where you end up. He'll tell you 2 things: Confirm route -- O. Use this near the flags. Raise temperature -- Sq. Use this on ledges. If you passed out and did not get a chance for the Alexander materia, go back and get it (it is worth it). 2.4 climb to the summit Leave, then go N. This is straight forward. Up, up, and up. At the ledges, if you go below 30, warm yourself. I know it burns your thumb, but if you drop below 27, you'll awake in Holzoff Shack. When you climb in the cave, go under the bridge and thru the cave. Go up and thru the exit to your left. Go cross the first bridge then across the second one for a chest, then into the cave. Go up. When you can't see yourself, just press D-Button in random directions and you'll get there. Push the rock, then go ALL the way back to the very first entrance. Follow the path, till you get outside. Outside, go up. At the first prompt, go up, then at the second one, go up again. Go to the right flag. Then go up into the cave. Grab the chest on the right, save then go thru the right entrance Go around the cliff. Get the chest. Each time you go under an icicle, you fight it and 4 Evilheads. Use Ifrit and Fire2+All. Grab the Megalixir on the other side. It says Last Elixir, but it is a glitch (or translation problem). Then jump down. Now you can get the 2nd chest and go thru the middle entrance. Get the chest (Enhance Sword), then go around the cliff. At the flag, press O, then right. Then go up at all prompts and flags. Inside, drink from the pond, then Save. Here, you can learn E. Skill Smelly Breath from the Molbors and get Dragon Armlets from the Blue Dragons while healing yourself. You'll need 3 Dragon Armlets. Continue, and you get to fight another boss. --------------------BOSS TIPS: SCHIZO LEFT & RIGHT------------------- LEFT: RIGHT: LV: 43 LV: 43 HP: 18000 HP: 18000 MP: 350 MP: 350 WEAKNESS: fire WEAKNESS: ice STRENGTH: ice STRENGTH: fire The main difference are their strengths and weaknesses. To get around this, equip one with a Fire Armlet and Elemental+Ice in the armor, one with Aurora Armlet and Elemental+Fire in armor, and the third with a Dragon Armlet!! Ta Da!! Or just equip 3 Dragon Armlets. Don't use Ifrit, Shiva, or Kjata. Comet does 1700, Alexander 4000, Odin 2000, Bahamut 2500. Use Mbarrier and Haste. Each breathes fire or ice, depending on which head. Sometimes they breathe together. It does 1400 to one together, 900 single. Now you see why you need Mbarrier. They also cast Quake 3, does 600-700 to all. Before each head dies, it does a lightning attack doing 1400 to ALL, so keep your HP up. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Go back, drink from the pond, save again. Then continue. Climb up (he takes a while for this one), and you'll see an FMV. Go straight down. Grab the Neo Bahamut materia, then go across and save. Cloud will see Rufus in the Highwind. At a point, if Tifa isn't in your group, she will come and join you. 2.5 the crater In the next screen, there is a wall. Talk to the shadows, then grab the items. Cross only when the wind is calm. Otherwise you will be attacked by a Wind Wing. Don't worry, he is easy though. Follow the path, but don't forget the chest. The shadows don't give you anything here. Then there is another wall. This time, you have to cross at a calm wind AND no green waves. If either one hits you, you get attacked. In the next screen, there will be a scene with Sephiroth, then you will be attacked by a boss. -------------------------BOSS TIPS: JENOVA: DEATH-------------------- LV: 55 HP: 25000 MP: 800 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: fire For starters, equip a Fire Armlet, Elemental+Fire, and Elemental+ Ifrit. Summons and Limits. This is a very easy boss, so take your time. Her attacks are fire-based. Her Red Light does 700, Tropic Wind 700. But if you have Mbarrier and the aforementioned items and materia equipped, it can be reduced to about 200. Yahoo! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget the Chest, MP Turbo, and Save. Cloud will give the Black Materia to someone (Barret or Red XIII). The next screen....AAAAH! Wind, Green Waves, AND Lightning! If either one hits you you'll be attacked. AAAHH!! At the end will be a scene where Sephiroth toys with Cloud's memories. You may be wondering, "What's going on?" but everything should fall in place. The next scene is with the Shinra flunkies in the materia cave. The Weapon awakes, and then Cloud's group arrives. Sephiroth uses some trickery to get the carrier of the Black Materia to come as well. Cloud will take the Black materia from its carrier, and give it to Sephiroth, who is up in the chamber (the real Sephiroth). Then the rest escape and Weapon awakens. This FMV is different from the Japanese one, but oh well... It shows the 5 Weapons escaping, Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Ultimate, and another one that gets killed later on, you'll see. After that, Tifa has a small scene with Cloud. 2.6 junon II Tifa wakes up in the Highwind, and Barret tells her she has been sleeping for seven days. Then you get to see Meteor (thanks a lot, Cloud). Then Rufus comes and says he is going to execute you. So you have no choice but to follow the guard, but you can save. In the room, Scarlet taunts Barret a little, then slams Tifa in the gas chamber, suddenly Weapon attacks (this is the 5th one that's gonna die). The fat guy asking questions is your pal Cait Sith. After the fight notice how the guards run away? Go to the door and press O, then any 3 directional buttons. Then it cuts to the Shinra cannon. Exit, then go to the airship. If you have Yuffie, she poses as a reporter, and joins your group. Exit, then press the yellow button on the platform to go up. A scene occurs between Cait Sith and Barret, then it cuts to Tifa. In the gas chamber, Tifa is strapped in the chair and the gas comes. You could sit her there forever for she is invincible. MWA HA HA HA HA!!!!! First, press X twice. This makes her stick her legs out and grab the key. Press T to move back. Then press T+X to transfer from feet to head. Boy is she flexible... Then T+S to free her hand, then T+S again then T+O to free her other hand. Press the small button to turn off the gas. Then Weapon will cut a hole in the chamber allowing Tifa to escape. Climb down, down, down. Go to the end of the cannon and a...... slapping match! But isn't Tifa a martial arts woman?? Anyways. Press O to slap. I think that if you do Tifa's 2 slaps to Scarlet's 3, it will go on forever. I did it and it went on for half an hour. No matter the outcome, Tifa will escape to the Highwind. Yep, you got an Airship! Now you could do many things. You could do Yuffie's Subquest if you haven't already, Chocobo breeding, build Limits, or go on with the story. Ready? Go to the SE most dot on the map, Mideel. 2.7 mideel You arrive in a town that seems rather rundown. There are nice weapons and materia for sale here, and if you talk to the man standing on the balcony (do this BEFORE you get the Contain materia from the Chocobo) he will either give you a Curse Ring or make your character act funny. To get the Contain, get a Mimett greens, talk to the white Chocobo (it'll say Samolen greens...nice translating job), and scratch behind its ears. Talk to the cat, and you'll go in the clinic and find Cloud. Tifa leaves your group, and Cid becomes the new leader. He runs like a retard (beat your chest and bite your ear =) but otherwise he is ok. I love his Limits. Cait Sith comes up and tells you what is going to happen. You have two choices: Corel or Fort Condor. I will continue with Corel first, then Fort Condor. 2.8 corel train Remember the Mako reactor you passed in Disc I? Go there. As you enter, you get attacked by 2 guards. Then some fun gets under way. Cid hops on a little train-caboose-whatever you call those doohickeys You gotta press T, then up rapidly, but continuously. An expert (me) can get it in 10 seconds. Remember, refrain from summons since this is timed. The first and second cars, Gas Ducter, Gas Ducter x2, can be eliminated simply by casting Remove (Exit materia). The third, Wulfmeister, use Limits, and Summon Bahamut/Mime. The fourth one, Eagle Gun, use Ramuh, Alexander, Neo Bahamut, and Mime. Limits and Comet work well also. The last one you can clear easily. You can do the whole thing in under 7 minutes! Then, you gotta slow the train down, I think it doesn't even matter if you do anything! There are 3 endings: -- If you never made it on the train, you get NOTHING -- If you made it, but didn't clear the train, you get the Ultima materia for 50000 gil. -- If you made and cleared the train, you get Green Huge Materia and Ultima materia for free. Then you can rest for free. You also can get Barret L4 Limit Manual in one of the huts by talking to the woman in a hat. Now, on to Fort Condor. Be sure you have about 30000 gil before you go there, or all 12 1/35th soldiers. 2.9 battle at fort condor Go to Fort Condor. Go up to the 3rd floor to the guy standing a the window. Tell him you are ready. Now, my battle strategy consumes about 10000-15000, at the most 20000 gil. Place Attackers, Defenders, Fighters, and Shooters, 4 of each. Fighters are the most useful since they are cheap. Attackers are good against Beasts, Defenders vs. Barbarians, Shooters vs. Wyverns. Replace troops when necessary. At the end is a commander. Just send all your troops at him at once and he dies. At any one point during the battle you shouldn't have more than 10 people. You get a Pheonix materia when you win, and you watch a condor (chocobo?) fly away. Talk to the old man to get a Huge Yellow Materia. Also, they sell materia, All for 20000. Now down to Mideel. 2.10 mideel II You can still get the Contain here if you haven't already. When you are ready, go into the clinic with Tifa and Cloud. Then Weapon attacks and the Lifestream bursts. Cid goes out and starts taunting Weapon (it must be a marijuana cigarette) then it swoops down and attacks. -------------------------BOSS TIPS: ULTIMATE WEAPON------------------ LV: ?? HP: 10000 MP: ?? WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none To absorb the Ultima Beam, equip Elemental+Time or Elemental+ Barrier. After doing 10000 points of damage to it it will fly away. Be sure to use the Phoenix materia if you are in trouble, it deals fire damage PLUS casts Life2 on all dead allies. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Cid changes moods from drunk bravery to self-consciousness and scrams. This next scene is hilarious. It shows Tifa wheeling Cloud on a wheelchair, and they fall into the lifestream. Tifa hears some weird noises, then she ends up in Cloud's memories. There are 3 Clouds, here. Go to the top one, and you will see a gate that leads to Nibelheim. Enter, and you will see a flashback of what happened 5 years ago, with Sephiroth and Cloud, no, Zack, the dude who came from Gongaga. Then later, go to the bottom left Cloud, which leads to the well. They talk about the well. Then finally, boy Cloud comes and leads Tifa to his (awwww) special memories. It ends up in Tifa's room. There are a few scenes with Tifa and her friends, and then her mom dies. She goes up to Mt. Nibel, falls off, and the Cloud gets blamed for it. Then it continues saying Cloud fought everybody, but then he heard about Sephiroth and wanted to become strong like him so yours truly (Tifa) could notice. Lastly, you have to go back up to the topmost Cloud, who will lead you to the Nibelheim reactor. All questions will be answered here! The final truth! When you're done, watch the Clouds converge then go back up. You're back on the Highwind. When Cloud finishes with his speech, as you leave, the dude who lets you PHS, save, restore HP/MP will let you do so. Then talk to the pilot and go to Junon. 2.11 junon underwater reactor Enter Junon, then go up the elevator (you gotta pay the soldier 10 gil). Save, then go left. The shops have new items and weapons here. There will be a scene where Cloud says something, ignore it. Keep going down. Go left across the dock, then when you enter the hallway, go down to where the driller is. His troops run away. Go down to the door and enter it. Go down the elevator. Then exit and go down, then left, then down again. Save then go thru the exit. Go down another elevator, and you arrive at the UnderWater Reactor. In the area where the fish are, walk around till you get attacked by a Ghost Ship. Morph it into a GuideBook. (You'll see why in 7.3). Keep going, then you get to go down ANOTHER elevator. Press the button to go down then exit. Go across the ramp. SAVE there is a boss coming up. Go on and fight the Shinra soldiers (easy). Walk a little ways, and you see the Huge Red Materia being carried away (doesn't look very huge to me). Go on, and talk to Reno. He summons the boss, then runs. ----------------------BOSS TIPS: CARRY ARMOR & arms------------------ CARRY ARMOR LEFT ARM RIGHT ARM LV: 45 LV: 45 LV: 45 HP: 24000 HP: 10000 HP: 10000 MP: 200 MP: 100 MP: 200 WEAKNESS: lightning WEAKNESS: lightning WEAKNESS: lightning STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: none GO FOR THE ARMS. The only thing the body can do is a Lapis (la piss) Laser which does 1600 regardless of row. Cast Wall if you want. Bolt3 is good. Use Knights of the Round if you have it (it requires a Gold Chocobo; its worth getting). Limits work well. Barret's Satellite Beam works nice does 2000 to each, keep Miming and they're toast. Otherwise, use Freeze and Break, and Ultima is VERY nice. You have a lot of good Summons and Magic, use them. Your only concern is the arms, the punch for 500, and when they pick up a character, they're dead. If you attack them when a character is in their hand, it swings round and round attacking the character till it dies. REGEN IS AWESOME. Learn to use it, use it for every boss. Typoon does quite well (ancient forest), about 5000 each. It is a tough fight, but you'll get it after a while if not the first time. If you have Knights of Round, you can kill any boss in this walkthru. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After the fight, go left for a chest, then go up. Notice how the soldiers are running in place? Grab the chests, then go up and fight them. Hop in the sub where you fight more people. Save, then enter the cockpit. Remeber Disc I in Junon when you had to dress up? These are the same guys who taught you in the locker room!! They talk tough, but you can fight them or take them prisoner. I took them prisoner, thought it was pretty funny. I just wish I could make Cloud spit in their face. HA HA HA! Now for the sub game. ----------------------------SUBMARINE GAME-------------------------- Here, your objective is to destroy the Red Leader Sub which carries the Huge Red Materia. You can do it in under 5 seconds because you start out right next to it! However, the first time you might not be able to. Your controls are: T -- go forward S -- fire X -- go backward D-pad -- move up/down and left/right There is no strafing. When you get used to it, wait until an enemy sub is within the red square. When it is, press S repeatedly. BAM BOOM BAM BOOM!!! they're dead. Do it to all of them until you find the Red Sub, then do it to it. Beware that it takes time to reload the torpedos. You have a 10-minute time limit. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Afterward, all call arrives on the sub (see the prisoners?) Then you are prompted to go back to Junon. There go to the airport and you'll see the Gelnika take off. Cloud says it is going to Rocket Town, so, go to Rocket Town. However, don't go yet. There are a lot of sidequests you can do with the sub that you might want to consider that are in the next section, and the Key to the Ancients is NECESSARY, so read the next section anyways, even if you didn't get the sub. 2.12 aquious quests First of all, your controls for the sub are as follows: O - forward X - submerge/ascend or get off at docks D-pad - move left/right/up/down The first thing to do is get the Huge Red Materia from the Red Leader Sub. If you didn't sink it, you can't get it. BTW, if you jettisoned out of the sub (ran out of time or sub blew up) go back to Junon, talk to the dog that was next to the elevator with the woman. When it moves, go in, fight the Shinra, and get the red sub. The controls are the same for either sub. Go near the Temple of the Ancients, then submerge. Look around and there will be a red speck. Move closer and it is the sub. Touch it to get the Huge Red Materia (the prisoners are still there!!). Next, go West of Bone Village and submerge. There will be a passageway. Go thru it and touch the spike. It is the Key to the Ancients, you'll need it soon. Now, go to the dock near the Gold Saucer and submerge. There will be a wrecked plane, Gelnika. Touch it to enter. Go left and get the chest. Go up, and get 2 chests. Grab the purple light for Double Cut materia. Behind a pipe is the Conformer, Yuffie's Ultimate Weapon. Exit, then save. GO left where you'll see yours truly, Reno and Rude. They fight you (duh!) --------------------------BOSS TIPS: RENO & RUDE--------------------- RENO RUDE LV: 42 LV: 49 HP: 15000 HP: 20000 MP: 250 MP: 280 WEAKNESS: none WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: fire Reno's attacks are lightning based, so equip an Escort Guard and Bolt Armlet. Rude casts Fire2, which does about 800. Reno's Neo Turk Light cause confusion (urrrgh). Knight of Round kills em, but if you don't have it, Limits and Summons. Just concentrate your attacks on one of them, and the other will leave as well. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Go where they were. Grab the chest. Go right for another one, then down the stairs. The red dot is Summon Hades. Go down for two more chests, one being Cid's L4 manual. Then LEAVE. The monsters really get to you after a while. Next, go to Wutai. Go to the Da-chao statue. In the fire pits, Cloud will use the Leviathan scales 2x and get two chests. Now, head on to Rocket Town! 2.13 cid's rocket/holy power Inside Rocket Town, everyone is looking at the rocket. Go there and you see the rocket getting ready to liftoff. Go to the steps and fight the guards. Then go up and fight another batch. At this point if Cid is not in your party, he comes and joins you. Go up where you'll fight Rude and some more guards. Rude by himself is easy, just use limits on him. Go on and kill the commander. Go left where the control room is and Cid will take over. 3...2...1...BLASTOFF!! Nice FMV. Cid and Cloud willl have a chat, then Cloud goes for the Huge Blue Materia. Go right, then up the ladder. It will prompt you to enter a passcode. If you get it wrong, Cid will clue you in. If you get it, Cid starts bragging, otherwise it is lowered where you can't reach it. The passcode for you morons who can't get it =) is: O,S,X,X. Then exit the cockpit, and thru the hallway to the oxygen tanks. One of them blows up. Cid gives his death speech (that's what I call them anyway) and then Shera comes. Oooooh, isn't she strong! Then follow her to the escape pod. Another few FMV's flashby, (one of my favorites) then an explosion with Meteor. The explosion only blows way the outer rocky layer of it, now what you see is worse: a magnetic/electric ball with rocks around it. You land on the Highwind (coincidence?, it must be magic) then Red XIII prompts you to go to Cosmo Canyon. In Cosmo Canyon, go up to Bugenhagen's observatory and in the 3D space thing. He does some soulsearching, then Cloud says stuff about Aeris. Then Bugenhagen wants you to go to the City of the Ancients again, he has a hunch. Before that, place the Huge Materia, then go to the Huge Blue materia, and if you have Bahamut and NeoBahamut (nonmastered) you will get Bahamut ZERO. BTW, If you master all Magic materia, come here, use all the Magic Materia to get a Master Magic Materia. Same if you master all Summon for the Red materia, and you need to master, Mime, Manipulate, Deathblow, Morph, Sense, Steal, and Throw materias mastered for Master Command. Remember the chamber with the crystal that had the Aurora Armlet? Go there. Bugenhagen gets a reading, then wants you to go to the crystal. Go right, thru the passageway, to go up, then down the stairs to the chamber. Bugenhagen uses the key to create a waterfall, then the crystal projects an image on the sheet of water. It shows the Holy materia turning green, due to Aeris's praying. When you leave, Cait Sith calls. He says stuff about the Mako Cannon. When you exit the city, and try to get on the Airship/Chocobo, a rumbling occurs, and Diamond Weapon emerges from the sea and walks toward Midgar. So fly in front of Midgar, and wait for it to come up on land, then fight it. You can also do other stuff if you want to, but i'll go with the following. --------------------------BOSS TIPS: DIAMOND WEAPON------------------ LV: 99 HP: 50000 MP: 3000 WEAKNESS: lightning STRENGTH: none You can Knights of Round this to hell with one casting, but if you don't have it oh well. You can steal a Rising Sun from it during battle. Bolt3, Ultima, Tornado, Typoon, Bahamut ZERO, even Coin are all plausible sources of damage. My recommendation is Coin 100000 gil, then Mime it. Its attacks are weak, a laser does 700, and stomp 1000. However, if it uses Countdown+Diamond Flash, it does 1500-2500 damage + Silence to all members. Once it does, you can use physical attacks, but you shouldn't even have to worry about it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- My favorite FMV lies here..... watch. If you try to go to the Northern Crater, you'll be stopped by Cait Sith, who tells you that Hojo is going to fire it again. He also tells gya haa ha and kya haa ha that Cloud is coming (that damn doublecrosser). So ram Midgar when you are ready! 2.14 siege of midgar DUM DA DUM DUM DA!!! Choose your party, then parachute down into Midgar. Follow Cait Sith underground. Climb down the ladder, then down the top flight of stairs. Go up, then left and right for chests. Now go back, and go down the other stairs. Climb up the ladder to your left and get the chest, then go back. Go right, the floor falls down. Don't worry about it. Go left, then up the ladder. Go thru the chute and you're back at the place you were deprived from earlier. Grab the chests, then go down the ladder and on the chute. Climb the chute. Go up the ladder for a chest, then go back. Go up the stairs, then save and go through the chute. In the tunnel, go S. Keep going for chests, and at the very last screen you are rewarded for your perseverance by a W-Item. The duplication trick is as follows: Select the item you want duplicated and 'use' it. Select another item and cancel it. Each time you cancel the initial item increases by one. And a save. Now you get to go all the way back (oh fun!). Eventually you'll run across the Turks. If you did the Yuffie's SubQuest and saved Elena from Corneo, then they will give you an option, else you have to fight them. ------------------------BOSS TIPS: RENO, RUDE, ELENA----------------- RENO RUDE ELENA LV: 50 LV: 51 LV: 52 HP: 25000 HP: 28000 HP: 30000 MP: 200 MP: 250 MP: 300 WEAKNESS: none WEAKNESS: none WEAKNESS:none STRENGTH: ice STRENGTH: fire STRENGTH: bolt It's obvious not to use Elemental Summons or Fire/Ice/Lightning + All. If you don't have Knights of the Round, be sure to have L4 Limit Breaks, or at least Mime, that way you can mime Bahamut ZERO or Typoon. Hades works to some extent as well. Remember, if you don't have L4 Limits or KoR, don't fight them unless you have HP up the @$$. Reno's attack does 800 and I think it is lightning-based. Rude's punch does 2000, and he occasionally casts Fire2 which does 1000 damage. Elena throws a bomb, does 600 to all. They have more attacks, but these are the ones which occur most frequently. If you smack Elena around enough, she'll go to the back row and Reno and Rude's attacks double! Start out with Wall + Haste, then use Ultima + Tornado. Save Pheonix since it will revive your allies but it will also heal Rude. Final Attack+Pheonix is perfect. --------------------------------------------------------------------- They run away (do they ever die?). Go up. At the fork, if you wish to revisit the Shinra HQ, go right, then right, then up the ladder. On floor 2, in the item shop you can open the chests you couldn't earlier. On floor 64 in the back row is Cait Sith's Ultimate Weapon, HP Shout. You can get a Mind Source and a Speed Source from the machine if you choose to hit it. On floor 63 is an item bag. And if you didn't go Tifa's method when raiding the HQ in Disc I, you can get the Elixir and a Behemoth Horn as well. When you're done, go back. Go left at the fork and you arrive at the surface. Go a little ways and gya haa ha and kya haa ha (Heidegger and Scarlet, if you haven't caught on by now) will attack you in the Proud Clod. -------------------BOSS TIPS: PROUD CLOD+JAMAR ARMOR-------------- PROUD CLOD JAMAR ARMOR LV: 76 LV: 62 HP: 60000 HP: 20000 MP: 0 MP: 300 WEAKNESS: lightning WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none STRENGTH: none All the Jamar Armor can do is disable your materia, and it rarely ever does so. Still, it would be useful to get rid of it. The Proud Clod is weak: Wrist Laser does 650, Knee Fire 550, firebased, and the punch does 650. Its machine guns do 1100, as its Beam Cannon. KoR kills it, else use L4 limits+Mime, Ultima+Mime, Freeze, Bolt3. It is a very easy boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After they die, it begins to rain (I thought midgar had no weather cause of that damned plate?) GO up. Grab the chests. One of them has a Mystile. This, in my opinion, is the best armor. Second to it is the Aegis Armlet. Why? Magic evasion at 65%, Evasion at 50%, whereas the Aegis armlet is a touch less than that. You get another one in Disc III. Save, then go up. If Barret is in your party, you'll see a chest which contains his Ultimate Weapon, the Missing Score. Keep going up, and at the last screen. If Vincent is in your party he'll trash talk Hojo. Keep your Hps up, then its on to the final form. STAGE III LIFEFORM HOJO - NA can't sense This guy is tough, he casts Silence, and Combo, which deals 2200+Sleepel+Silence+Poison+Slow. Smack him with Contain + Summons. The emphasis on this whole battle is: KEEP YOUR HPS UP. L4 Limits work awesome on this MoFo. Wall+Haste would be nice for all these battles as well. Slow works well on all battles. RIBBON IS GREAT, AS IS REGEN. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Afterward, there is a scene at the cannon, then one on the Highwind where Cloud tells everyone to do SoulSearching and then a scene with Cloud and Tifa. I THINK, but I am not sure, if you date Tifa, it is a little more......special =) The next morning, they climb on the Airship, and everyone is there (yaaay). Blastoff!! Pop in Disc III and keep playing!! BTW, if you haven't noticed, the Highwind's going faster due to the change, see the blue rocket fuel when you fly around the World Map. 3 DISC III 3.1 northern crater This is pretty much your last chance to do any of the EXTRAS or others not mentioned in the body of this walkthrough. Of course you can always exit the Crater in which you are about to enter, but it is a pain in the neck. So, pilot the Highwind to the Northern crater, and land in it. Climb down the ladder, and slide down the cliff. In this screen, you will see a downward spiral into the ground, and a cave. This cave is to be used if you want to exit the crater. Now, almost all the chests contain ---- Sources, (Mind, Luck, e.g.) Except for a few. One of the chests contains a Save Crystal. This is to be used near the end, for there are no Saves in this area. Keep going round and down till you reach the next screen. Here, go left, then go up the ramp and left for a chest. Then head back right for an HP Absorb Materia. Go back down the ramp. Now go right, and then down for some chests. After getting the chests, go up, and on the left side, if you go up and right there is a chest. Go back down to the next screen. This time, go left into the cave. In here, if you go through the right hole, there is a chest. Now go down from there to get another chest, and then exit through the lower exit. From here, go right for a chest. Backtrack through the cave and reach the entrance. Now go right, down then left for a chest. Jump upward. Now go left and down into another cave. Get the chest here, then exit. Go across, and then fall downward. Go right and fall downward again. You'll go through another cave, when you exit it, fall downward and go to the next screen. Next screen, go down the 2 stalactites to reach your pals. They'll want to split up. Note: The main purpose is for the others to grab chests in these passageways. Chances are they wont get them all. When you finally reach the Meeting Point, you can make your way back through the Left, Lower path to the screen with 2 stalactites and go through the other passages as well, getting all the chests. This is important because in the Right: path there is a Mystile! THE RIGHT PATH Here, go down the spiral. Note here: When you climb down this stalactite, you can't go back up. Head on down, grabbing the chest and the item bag. Get the chest in front, then go down from there to get another chest. Go back up, then right and up to a fork. The left path has a chest. The upper path leads on to the next screen. Here, simply cut across the skeleton and go down. You'll see another spiral. Go down, and you'll reach the Meeting Point. THE LEFT, UPPER PATH This is a slimy area. Here, there are rare enemies called Movers and Magic Pots. Movers come in threes, give 2400 AP, and 17000 gil. Magic Pots come in ones or twos, give 1000 AP, 10000 EXP, and ? Gil (I forgot) but you have to give them an Elixir before you fight them and kill them. Use W-Item trick to overcome this obstacle. (Just like in FF5, the Magic Pots in Phoenix Tower.) Go right for a chest. Now go up. To cross, go left, to the water, then press up and you'll go underwater and appear on the other side. Go left for a chest. Then go straight to the next screen. Here, this is another slimy area. Go left, then left again for a chest. From here, go left, then press up. You'll go underwater and appear on a rock. Grab the Shield Materia. Climb down. Get the chest. In the SE corner of this screen is another chest. Get it. In the next screen, there is no slime (and no Movers/Magic Pots). The purple dot is a W-Magic materia. Go thru the exit and you've reached the Meeting Point. LEFT, LOWER PATH Hop down the stone columns and get the chest to your left. Head right and hop up the stone columns to arrive at a chest. Go back to the first treasure chest and press against the bottom of the ledge. You'll hop down to a column where there is a chest. Go to the next screen. Here, hop down the stone columns and then go left to find a chest. Then go east and north. There's another chest here. Go west, then follow the path south and hop across the columns. When you reach the bottom of the screen, run to the south. In this area, go to the right and press down to hop down to a small ledge. Below is a larger ledge and a green chest. Walk to the left across the thin stone bridge, drop down a level, then keep going right until you see some stone 'steps'. Go down them; to the left is a green chest. If you walk to the left, you'll jump down to a low ledge. Nearby, there is a ball floating in the air. Hold Up in order to jump from a small ledge to a larger ledge, and when you get near the ball, tap O repeatedly. If you timed it right, you'll be able to take the ball, which is actually the Mega All materia. If you missed it, just press left to jump back down to the lower ledge and then try again. You can only get the materia while jumping to the small ledge, not while jumping from the large western ledge. Now go to the other end of the large ledge There's a chest here. Now go south and go down to a lower area. Keep walking south and you'll reach the Meeting Point. Use the Save Crystal here. Now enter the screen and get the items your pals picked up for you. Equip your materia, then head down. You must hop from ledge to ledge. There are Iron Men with 20000 HP here. Let them attack you until your Limit bar is flashing (ONLY IF YOU HAVE L4 LIMITS). Then run, not using the limits. Down here, you fight Jenova: Synthesis, then if you kill it quickly enough, then you'll have time to re-equip and form 2 groups. This 2 groups crap isn't necessary, just form one and use it. Then you'll fight Bizarro Sephiroth, and finally Safer Sephiroth and Sephiroth himself. -------------------BOSS TIPS: JENOVA: SYNTHESIS, and parts----------- JENOVA (body) JENOVA (left arm) JENOVA (right arm) LV: ?? This is backed up by Knights of Round, if you use it, the core receives no damage, but Bizarro Sephiroth dies anyway. You want to use stuff that affects all the parts, like Ultima, Coin, Bahamut ZERO, etc. Therefore, part A will do nothing but Bizarro energy and reviving other parts. Then When you Bahamut ZERO kills part A along with other parts, the core dies and you are now ready to fight the last battle. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------BOSS TIPS: SAFER SEPHIROTH--------------------- LV: ?? You can cast Knights of Round twice, and be done with it. Or cast Haste, Wall, Regen, and Resist on everybody. Resist guards against the effects of Supernova, an awesome move (well, not for you). His attacks do about 3500-5500 HP damage. Be sure to have HP Plus materias. Now batter him with Coin and Mime, or summon Bahamut ZERO, mime that, cast Ultima, Flare, anything! You gotta go all out, this is the last battle. He is pretty easy for a last boss, I mean he has less HP than Zeromus of FF2/4j and your most powerful attack in that game was 9999! Here you have KoR, + Miming for free! --------------------------------------------------------------------- When this ends, the party will escape, and Cloud will fight Sephiroth one-on-one. It's not too hard, come on! Then watch the ending. No need to pat yourself on the back because this wasn't hard at all, but if you defeated Ruby, Emerald, weapons and got everything possible in the game then I give you permission to do so. 4 EXTRAS 4.1 where's yuffie? You can get Yuffie in any disc. She is in the forests near Junon, and Gongaga. You fight her (her name is Mystery Ninja). Afterward you find yourself in a plain with Yuffie and your party. If you talk to one of your members or try to use the Save Point, she will escape and steal some gil. Talk to her, then respond in this fashion: Not interested ...petrified That's right Let's hurry on She comes with a Carbon Bangle, and a Throw materia with 300 AP on it. 4.2 where's vincent? You can get Vincent in any disc. Go to the Nibelheim mansion and unlock the code, fight the boss, grab the Key to the Basement. Refer to 1.15 for details. Go down to the basement and unlock the top door in the 2nd screen. Examine the purple coffin and he'll talk. Respond in this fashion: Talk about Sephiroth Who are you? He comes with a Silver Armlet. His Limits are weird, he turns into a monster for the remainder of a battle and attacks from that position. 4.3 secret materia locations MIME found in Wutai Area, near a bridge. Need a Green, Black, or Gold Chocobo to reach it. Mimics last performed action by an ally. QUADRA MAGIC found in Mideel area, NE of the town in the stray islands. Need Blue, Black, or Gold Chocobo. Uses attached magic 4x, but decreases power. AS it advances, power increases. HP<-->MP found N of corel. Need a Black or Gold Chocobo. Switches HP and MP totals. KNIGHTS OF ROUND found in the NE corner of World Map, uncharted isle. Need a Gold Chocobo to reach it. Looks like a round island (that's its name). Recommended you find it with the Highwind first. Extreme summon, deals on the average 65000 damage, max it can deal 129987 damage (9999 x13) 4.4 the ancient forest In Disc II or III, with a Green Chocobo, you can reach the Ancient Forest. This is located S of Cosmo Canyon on a mountaintop. You can also reach it after killing the Ultimate Weapon. Some special controls are here. When you see a frog, or a wasp nest, examine it and you will pick it up. Press O to release it. Now, let's begin. Grab the big frog, and now go over the bridge. In the middle of the claws there is an item. Walk over to get it. WALK. Now, go back and go under the bridge. Release the frog in the bag. Now run quickly back to get a little bug, grab it, and after jumping on the first bag put the small bug in the second, and cross. Grab the nearby frog, and the item, and go right. In the second area, pick up one frog and approach the pink vine. Choose the top option to leap to the ledge. From here, you can put the frog in the bag and leap across to the second (already-full) bag. You'll automatically use the pink vine to jump to the ground. Now, pick up a frog and climb on top of the green ledge to our right; let it go and it will leap onto the left bag. If you wait long enough, you'll be sent flying to the ledge above when the frog escapes (you have to use a big one). Once on the ledge, take the wasp nest. Jump back down. Go near the small snapping plant and press O to release the nest; if you're at the right distance, the nest will fly backward and land in the plant, which will snap it up. Take the yellow materia. Pick up the big frog again. Climb to the green ledge one more time and let the frog jump into the right bag. Jump atop it and wait until you are thrust onto the opposite side of the huge snapping plant. Run to the right to reach the next one. In the third area, pick up two frogs, toss them into the bags, and leap across to the pink vine. You'll be lifted into the treetops. Go left, then down the trunk to reach the big bag you saw back in the second area. Minerva Band is inside. If you go too far down the trunk, you'll jump down to the ground, so return to the treetops after grabbing the bag. If for some reason you can't, just hop back down repeat the last few steps to get across the plant, get into the next screen, and return to the treetops. Once you're back in the trees, climb to the upmost branch and head right, then make your way towards the broken branch; Cloud will vault across three of the pink vines and land on another branch. Go south to get yet another item bag holding a red materia. Now, go back across the vine, and take the lower branch that leads behind the leaves to the ground level. (look for a path leading right). Once on the ground, grab a frog. There are two bags to your right; look for a high ledge beneath them, stand on it, and toss the frog into the bag. Then, hop onto it and make your way over to the second bag, then to the ledge with the wasp's nest. Take it and drop to the ground, then approach the snapping plant and press O to release the nest. If you are positioned correctly, you'll toss the nest into the plant, which will close up. Pick up a small frog and move past the plant. Stand on the left ledge, and let go of the frog; it will jump into the nearby bag. Hop across the bag and onto the ground. Run to the left and grab a frog. Put it in the hollow in the tree next to you and a big frog will jump out. Take it and go back the way you came (put the big frog in the bag, jump to the other side, and wait for it to land by your feet). Grab it again, go to the far right ledge, and release it into the bag. Now, stand on the bag and wait for the frog to escape. Doing this sends you flying across the gap to a cave entrance. In the cave, walk to the right to find a chest. Head to the north, then go east to find another chest. Finally, exit through the opening to your left. You're back outside! 4.5 the date In Disc I, when you revisit the Gold Saucer, you 'spend some time with one of the 3 females.' The default is Aeris (payback for being her bodyguard), but you can get Tifa and Yuffie as well. Some Japanese guys have even gotten Barret! I tried to once, but the plan failed. Basically you have to be nice to one of the girls and shun the other two. I have a guide for Yuffie, courtesy of ? but translated by Case (coxon@netspae.net.au) edited by Yasha (shinra_company@hotmail.com, vucht@eisa.net.au) thanks to Mooncalf (McLeodM@msn.com). HERE IT IS!! Everyone likes Yuffie, the 14 year old ninja with spunk. Finally, you can do the ultimate (clean) fantasy - you can date Yuffie! But then half the fun of slaving through the guide is the fact that you can kick dirt in Aeris and Tifa's face, call them worthless, irresponsible and ugly and they'll STILL like you in the end! So here we go: DISCLAIMER This was originally taken from a Japanese guide, but has been translated and edited for the English version. Also credit is given to the original writer of this guide, whomever he may be. The original writer, translater and editor will not claim responsibility if you read through this guide and it essentially destroys the first half of the game. I've dated Yuffie, obviously, so it can be done, however, I suggest you play the game 'straight' first, as some key parts are missed (Honey Bee Inn, talk with Zack's parents). This is best followed when you play through a second time. GENERAL TIPS FOR DATING YUFFIE Always try to have Red 13 and Barret in your party before getting Yuffie. After getting Yuffie, make sure she's always the second character, unless specified otherwise, (like when a character insists on joining you). The third character can be anybody but one of the girls (unless specified otherwise). - When you talk to allies, always talk to Yuffie first. - If you're in doubt when making choices, remember the object is of getting Tifa/Aeris's favour of you down (that is, be nasty to them), and getting Yuffie's favour of you up. - Finally, make sure the Cover materia is always equipped on Cloud when Yuffie's in your party, so that he can protect her. - Below is what choices you need to make to date Yuffie - don't be daunted by the number of instructions. And note that skipping out on a minor choice or two is fine, but watch for the major ones. Good luck dating Yuffie! 1. When you first meet Aeris after the bombing mission and she asks, 'What happened?', tell her, 'Nothing has. Listen..' 2. Then 'Nevermind.' 3. When she asks if Cloud would like a flower, say 'Forget it.' 4. Talk to Jessie in the train a few times, then choose 'I'll be waiting'. 5. In front of 7th Heaven, don't talk to Barret a second time. 6. When Tifa asks 'Did you fight with Barret?' say 'Not this time'. 7. Talk to Biggs. When he comments about the food, say 'Yeah, why not.' 8. Talk to Wedge, and choose to drink with him. 9. When you talk to Tifa at the bar, say 'I don't feel like talking. 10. In the Avalanche hideout, after talking to Barret and then talking to Tifa, choose '....sorry.' 11. Then, when Tifa asks, 'Did you sleep well?' say 'Barret's snoring kept me up.' 12. When Barret asks about using materia, say 'Okay, I'll explain it. 13. In Johnny's house, when you talk to his father a third time and he asks about Cloud's hometown, say 'Who cares!' not 'Nibelheim..' 14. When you're in the train to attack the second mako reactor, Jessie asks 'Do I look good in Shinra uniform?' say, 'Yeah..' 15. when falling from bridge, say to Tifa, 'I mightn't be able to make it,' not 'I don't think I can hold on.' 16. When Aeris asks 'do you remember me?', say 'Never seen you before' 17. When Aeris says 'I've got a lot of things to tell you,' don't say 'Okay, I'll listen,' instead say, 'there's nothing to talk about. 18. When Reno enters and Aeris says, 'Ignore him,' talk to Reno. 19. When Aeris is attacked, and she says 'Cloud, help me,' say, 'Wait a minute', and drop all the wrong barrels. 20. At Aeris's house, when Aeris asks if Tifa is your girlfriend, say 'Yes, that's right'. 21. At the park, when Aeris says, 'I don't want to go home,' say 'I'll take you to 7th Heaven'. 22. Don't go to the Honey Inn in the wall market, and try to make Aeris be chosen (only three dress-up items). 23. When in Don Corneo's house, say when you save Tifa, 'We've gotta save Aeris!' 24. In the sewer after the boss, talk to Aeris then Tifa. 25. When you talk to Marlene at Aeris's house, and she asks, 'Is Aeris your girlfriend?' say 'I don't know.' 26. In front of the Shinra building, say, 'Let's bust on in!' 27. At the 61st floor, talk to the guy who has keycard to the 62nd floor, and say first, 'Where's Aeris?' then, '....'. 28. At 68th floor, when you first save Aeris and you get to choose who takes Aeris away, say 'Tifa, I'm counting on you.' 29. In jail, talk to Red XIII first, 30. then talk to Barret, 31. then talk to Aeris, 32. then talk to Tifa. When Tifa says, 'Can you get us out of here,' don't choose 'Leave it to me,' choose 'It'll be difficult.' 33. And then go to sleep. 34. Before the bike race, in your party to fight that bulldozer boss, have Red and Barret in your party. 35. Talk to Red first when you escape. 36. Then talk to Barret, and say 'I'm not sure.' 37. Then when talking to Tifa and Aeris, say 'The journey's going to be dangerous, are you sure you still want to go?' 38. Now have Red and Barret in your party until past the Mithril cave. 39. In the Kalm flashblack, say you did go into Tifa's house. 40. Say you did go into Tifa's room, 41. Say you looked at Tifa's letter on desk. 42. Say you read it. 43. Say you remember it very well. 44. Look at the drawers, and then say 'Yes, I really did look in your drawers.' 45. After the flashback, when you talk to Barret about him wanting to go off and fight now, say 'Is that all?' 46. After going through Mythril mine, go and get Yuffie straight away (before going to Junon). It helps if you're at a high level, and remember, this is based on luck, so use any Luck Sources you may have. 47. In front of the Fort Condor, with PHS, make the members of the party,,Aeris and Tifa. 48. After going inside, talk to the sitting guy, say 'Not interested' twice. 49. Go outside, and with PHS, make Yuffie and Red members. Then go in talk to the same guy and say, 'Well, lets do it.' 50. After someone says in Fort Condor, 'Are you going to rest?' say 'I want to rest'. 51. In Junon, if you don't have any 'Tranquilizer', buy some. 52. In the cargo ship, talk to Yuffie, and she talks about 'Tranquilizers', say, 'I'll use it.' 53. When Aeris says, 'The Airship is wonderful, isn't it?' say 'I dunno,' not 'I'll let you on one day.' 54. Tifa says, 'I wish war'd disappear. Right, Cloud?', say 'I dunno. 55. When you make up a party to fight first Jenova boss, use Yuffie and Red. 56. When you go to Costa del Sol, go to the beach and say, 'Hey, look at that girl in the bikini!', don't say, 'Hey that's Hojo!' 57. In the inn, talk to Aeris lying in her bed and when she says, 'Wh at do you think of me?' say, 'Nothing much.' 58. Go house next to bar, talk to Tifa who's talking to Johnny, when she says, 'Don't worry', say 'I'm not worried.' 59. Talk to the person on Corel path. 60. At the save point on the Corel railway, with PHS, make members Tifa and Aeris. 61. Investigate the birds nest and say, 'Take the treasure.' 62. Straight away in North Correl, make a member change to Yuffie and Red. 63. In the talk before going on Ropeway to Gold Saucer, choose 'Let's get on.' 64. In the Gold Saucer, just talk to Yuffie and make her a part of the team. 65. In prison, because Barret must be in your party, make the party with Barret and Yuffie. 66. After the escape from prison, make the party Yuffie and Cait Sith 67. At Gongaga, when with Reno and Rude, don't say 'Get outta my way, say 'Sector 7?' 68. Listen to Scarlet and Tseng's conversation. 69. Go outside and change members to Aeris and Tifa. 70. Go to Zack's house, and when Aeris and Tifa leave you, ignore them and leave. 71. After out of Gongaga, make the party Yuffie and Red. 72. At Cosmo Canyon, talk to Yuffie (she's in the materia shop, surprise, surprise!) 73. In the Planetarium, put Yuffie and Cait Sith into the party. 74. When you're around the Cosmo Candle, talk in this order: Yuffie, Barret, Aeris, Tifa, Red. 75. In Gi clan's cave, make the party as Yuffie and Red. 76. At Nibelheim, make Vincent part of your party, and then talk to Sephiroth. 77. In the Rocket Town, when you get the Tiny Bronco, listen to Yuffie when she says, 'Lets go to the west (to Wutai).' 78. At Wutai, Yuffie takes your materia. At this time, although there'll be less members, do not replace Yuffie before she runs off. 79. After the battle with the Shinra Soldiers, choose your party between Vincent, Cait Sith, Cid, and Red. 80. At Wutai, when you've caught Yuffie, pull the left lever as she says. 81. Finish the Wutai events. 82. Try and beat the Pagoda. I managed to beat the four-face boss by using the ???? enemy skill, maxing her with HP Plus materia and keeping Yuffie just high enough so that she survives if he uses Beast Sword. 83. Then go to Gold Saucer, get the Keystone, and watch the date sequence begin! Congratulations! You should now date Yuffie! And remember, say SOMETHING! :) PS. You can actually 'date' Barret also. I haven't done this, but some people in Japan have. If you want to try this, I can't help you, except to perhaps do everything in this guide that hurts Tifa and Aeris and don't pick up Yuffie until the last possible minute. 4.6 vincent's waterfall In Disc II before raiding Midgar, go to the water fall between Nibelheim and Corel. You'll need a Green Chocobo or a Submarine. Put Vincent in your party then run to the waterfall and enter. There you'll meet Lucrecia, a woman from his past, then there will be some flashbacks. Nothing you can do now, but in Disc III come here again for his L4 Limit Break and Ultimate Weapon. 4.7 yuffie's subquest In Disc I or II, you can do this subquest. At one point on the Wutai Continent, Yuffie will stop and take all your materia. You wil also be attacked. If you have more than 50 materia she won't take them all. So enter Wutai. Go to the NW exit of the screen (a pagoda). Enter the house to the right. walk along the hall until you arrive at a room with a man sleeping inside. Enter it and talk to the man. He is Godo, Yuffie's father. Keep talking to him until he stands up, at which point Yuffie will appear and then be chased away by her father. If you follow Yuffie, you'll find that she has disappeared. Before leaving this area, enter the room next to Godo's and examine the right wall. There is a hidden panel here that will open, revealing a passage. At the end of the passage is a chest. On your way out, go into the room to the left of the entrance. You can come here and spend the night for free, but if you examine the scroll on the left wall, it will lift up revealing another passage. The chest at the end of this passage has Magic Shuriken inside it. Return to the town and enter the restaurant (the one with the big pot outside). Enter and talk to...the Turks! Leave, and then enter the Item Shop. Go for the chest. Yuffie will come and steal what you just received. Exit, and go to the house nearest to the city entrance. Enter, and a girl will say something. Examine the folding curtain, and you'll find Yuffie behind it. She'll run away. Go outside and walk to the restaurant. You'll see the big pot shake. Press O near it, and your friends will block the exits. Press O 3 more times, and Yuffie will come out. Seeing she can't escape, she lets you in her house. Meanwhile, you'll see a scene with the Turks and some Shinra soldiers. After Elena leaves, you'll be in Yuffie's house. Follow her down, and pull either lever. It doesn't matter which one you pull. Either way, a cage will drop on you. Press either lever another time to free yourselves. Return to Godo's house, and enter the house across from it. Examine the bell. A passage will open. Go through the passage. You'll find.. Don Corneo! The mohawked SOB pervert who tricked you in the sewers of Midgar. He captured Elena and Yuffie. Now get the chests, and follow him up. Corneo will run away, and you'll fight a small battle. Kill the men, then go outside. Here, talk to the Turks. They will offer a temporary truce, and you accept. Return to town, then head towards the mountains. Talk to the Turks again as you follow the path, and keep going along the path until it splits. Take the path that goes north. It leads past a huge head to a crossroads. Rude is standing here, blocking the entrace to a cave. If you talk to him, he'll enter the cave. You can't get across the fire-pits yet unless you've gotten the Leviathan Scales (Disc II) from the Junon Underwater Mako Reactor. There's a chest here that has weapon for Cid in it, too. Talk to Rude again and then exit the cave and head south to find Corneo, who's tied Elena and Yuffie to the face of a Da-chao statue. When you confront him, he summons a boss to attack you. -----------------------------BOSS TIPS: RAPPS------------------------ LV: 60 HP: 6000 MP: 600 WEAKNESS: wind STRENGTH: physical attacks Since Rapps' strength is physical attacks, you might just want to move to the back row and use items to attack. If you have any extra Materia, use it. If your Limit Bar is full, USE it. Heal with Hi-Potions and Pheonix Downs. It might take a while but you should be able to wear him down easily. Aeris's Fury Brand (L2-2 limit) is great to boost Limit occurences. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, Corneo asks you a question. Doesn't matter which one you choose. Then Reno and Rude come and send Corneo to his final resting place. Then you'll be in Yuffie's house. She'll reequip the materia, but it's not the same, so fix it until you had what you wanted. Now, after this, go into the house with lots of cats, and go upstairs for an HP absorb materia. Now you can go to the Pagoda, and with Yuffie alone, fight all five bosses. Enter the pagoda and talk to the first guy, Gorky. I am not even going to waste my time writing Boss tips on this guy. Attack, and maybe at the beginning use Demi. He has 3000 HP. You get an X-Potion for beating him. The second floor, you will fight Shake. He has 4000 HP. Same strategy. Use Demi2, and then beat the crap out of him. You may have to use Barrier and/or Regen. You get a Turbo Ether for winning. The third floor, is Chekhov. You need to cast Barrier, Haste, Regen, and possibly MBarrier. Keep your HPs up in case you are paralyzed. Just beat him down with spells, you can even use summons if you want to get it over with. He has 5000 HP. You get an Ice Ring for defeating him. On the fourth floor is Staniv. This guy is the easiest person. He has 6000 HP. Just cast summons and Limits and he is gone. You get an Elixir for beating him. Finally, on the top floor, you have to fight Godo, Yuffie's father. He is hard, beware! ------------------------------BOSS TIPS: GODO------------------------ LV: ?? HP: 10000 MP: 1000 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none If you are in Disc II, then all you have to do are summons. But say you are in Disc I. Then what? Perhaps you've built Yuffie up to her Level 2 limits, or Level 3. In that case, just use Bloodfest 3 times while keeping her health up. Other than that... Move to back row. NOw, cast Barrier, MBarrier, Regen, and Haste. Start out your damages with Demi or Demi2. After that starts to do about 2000 damage, use summon Kjata (you can go to the ancient forest first, get it, come back and fight) Bahamut, and Odin. Heal when necessary. However, if you run out of summons, don't bother casting Demi, he will keep healing himself. Instead, just cast Demi1, and have him waste 24 MP on curing himself. When he runs out of MP, assault! For winning you get Summon Leviathan and Yuffie's L4 Limit manual. --------------------------------------------------------------------- That's all for Yuffie's subquest! 5 CHOCOBOS 5.1 skills Yellow Chocobo - can go anywhere you can go on foot, just faster and no encounters. Green Chocobo - can cross tall mountains, even the ones in Nibelheim. Blue Chocobo - like the Tiny Bronco, can go in shallows and rivers. Black Chocobo - cross mountains, rivers, and shallows, and can go in valleys, like the ancient forest. Gold Chocobo - anywhere! Treads deep waters, and crosses quicksand in addition to Black Chocobo's skills. 5.2 breeding In Disc II, you can start breeding Chocobos. The earliest is when you get the Highwind with Tifa. You can use these Chocobos to find the secret materia locations. Here is how you get them all. First of all, one rule: ALWAYS SAVE. Before each breeding session, save. Therefore, if you are unsuccessful, reset. Allright, note that you can get the same information from Chocobo Sage, but you have to stop by at intervals, and that is a pain in the @$$ so trust me! Buy 5-6 stables (10000 gil each). First, equip Chocobo Lure. Go to the tracks to the east of the Gold Saucer. If you fight a Chocobo with two enemies that do (Flying Sickle) in the front row, capture the Chocobo. You may need a Tantal Greens to keep it busy while you fight the others. Send it back to the barn. Now go to the tracks west of Mideel. When you have a Chocobo with 1 or 2 spiralers in the front row, capture it. Send it back. Now go to the grasslands south of Bone Village. Fight three dinosaur looking things. Steal a Carob Nut each time. Now, go to the barn. Talk to ChocoBilly and select Moving Chocobos. Put one that is trotting (this is a good chocobo) in the stable and one that is jogging (this is a great chocobo) in the stables. They MUST be opposite sex. SAVE! Now breed them with a Carob Nut. With luck, you should get either a blue or green Chocobo. Or reset and do it again. Now, ChocoBilly says that Chocobos need time before mating again. There fore, go to the only tracks in the snow (west of Icicle Inn). When you fight a Chocobo in the front and 2 rabbits in the back, Capture it! Now send it back and go back to the barn, if it is running fast with its head down (this is a wonderful chocobo keep it. REMEMBER it's gender. SAVE. Now, if your 2 original chocobos aren't ready to breed yet go along with the game. Send Tifa to Mideel and get Cid, and then if you still need time, do the Fort Condor Battle, or the Corel Train. When they are ready, SAVE. Then breed them, you need a chocobo of the opposite gender as your first chocobo, and the opposite color. E.g. if your first breeding produced a green female, you need a blue male. Now, go along with the storyline some more, then come back to the barn. Breed the green and blue together (you might need to feed them Sylkis greens get them from Chocobo Sage, who is in the patch of grass in the snow) and get a black. Your Black chocobo MUST be the opposite gender of your 'wonderful' chocobo. Go along with the storyline more. You might have to get Cloud back. In fact you should, therefore you can race your Chocobos, if they move up in rank, chances of breeding are better. Race the Black and the 'wonderful' up to at least A (feed them greens) and then breed them. With luck you should get a Gold Chocobo! 5.3 racing In Disc II after you get Cloud back, you can race Chocobos. If you win, you receive lots of GP and/or useful items. Your controls are this: Sq. tap repeatedly to speed up X. tap repeatedly to slow down O. sprint Select - Auto/Manual (manual recommended) L1+L2+R1+R2 - go a little faster and regain stamina. In order to race, go to the Gold Saucer and talk to Estel in the Chocobo racing section. Green, Black, and Gold chocobos are not slown down by Space (short) and waterfall (long). Otherwise, this has adverse efffects on your Chocobo! After three winning races in the C class, you move up to B. After 3 winners in B, you go to A. After 3 wins in A, Estel, your manager, will move you up to S. After 8-10 wins IN A ROW in S class, Estel will bestow upon you lots of things, Precious Watch, Sprint Shoes, Cat's Bell, and numerous other items. This is easiest done with a Gold Chocobo boosted with Sylkis Greens. 6 GOLD SAUCER *** Let me add something in here if I haven't already. When you enter in the Ropeway to the Gold Saucer entrance, there is a small chance that there is a man standing in the distant N corner of the screen. He will sell up to 100 GP for 10000 gil. 6.1 battle arena Here, this is a series of one-on-one fights. You choose one character (beef him/her up) and fight up to 8 battles in a row (of course getting increasingly harder). After each battle, you will be shown your current total of BPs and an option whether to continue or not. If you continue a wheel will spin, press O to choose your handicap. The tougher the handicap, the more BPs you get. There are only 3 reasons to put yourself through such hell like this: 1 - get 32000 BP and get Omnislash, Cloud's L4 limit. 2 - 64000 BP and get W-summon, summons 2x in one turn (necessary for eapons). 3 - after killing Ultimate weapon and getting the above 2, a special battle will open up. Here, if you complete all 8 battles (the last being one on one with the Proud Clod) you get a special item. Final Attack is probably the only one you want (junction w/Pheonix). It costs 10 GP each time you battle. ANd if you leave the Battle Arena vicinity, all your BPs are invalid! 6.2 wonder square The wonder square has many fun games. Below, and explanation of each. BASKETBALL Press O and depress to shoot. Keep doing this to accumulate GP. Occasionally you get chances for double or nothing. G-BIKE Same as the G-Bike minigame in Disc I in Midgar. Here, you do the same thing as the real thing. You get 2 GP for getting over 5000 pts. and 10 GP + a speed plus materia if you go over 10000 pts. MOG HOUSE Easy. All you need to know is the first time give Mog 5 nuts, the second give him 3. The person behind you will give you 30 GP. 3D BATTLER Hard as hell. Beating the first guys gets you nothing, the second 3 GP, the third 30 GP, and the 4th 100 GP. I haven't gotten any farther. SNOWBOARDING My favorite! Same controls as in the real thing. Finish the beginner's course with at least a 70% to open the Expert course. Get 70% on that to get the Crazy Course. Get 70% to get a time trials option. A yellow balloon will appear at the very beginning and if you get it, that is time trial mode. Your score in the regular is based upon balloons, speed, and skill. In the time trials all you have to worry about is speed. After getting 70% on all 3 in time trials, a gray balloon appears at each course IF you choose the yellow balloon. This increases your speed, allowing you to go faster on time trials. I got 57 sec. on beginner! If you get above 90 percent on beginner (regular) you get 30 GP and a Safety Bit. +90% on expert you get 100 GP and All materia. +90% on crazy and you get 300 GP and Crystal Bangle. ARM-WRESTLING Wrestle the Wrestler for 1 GP, the Sumo Wrestler for 2 GP. WONDER CATCHER Possible prizes: 1 GP, 3 GP, Potion, 80 GP, nothing! 6.3 speed square The objective of the Speed Square is to zap objects while moving on a roller coaster. Things to note: The big space craft. If you manage to kill it, you get 2000 pts. Also, a light at the end can be shot for 200 pts. If you get over 3000 pts. you can get any of these: Masamune, 1/35th soldier (10x). over 5000 pts. Umbrella (Disc I), Flayer (Disc II and III). If you get all 12 1/35th soldiers (10 here, 2 in Junon) all purch ases in the Fort-Condor subgame are free! 7 WEAPONS 7.1 ultimate weapon At the end of Disc II or in Disc III, if you go in the lake near Junon with the Highwind, you'll see a big thing over it (Ultimate Weapon). Attack it. Each time you do about 20000 damage, it will run away, chase it around until it stops and attack it again. Finally, after a while it will stop over Cosmo Canyon, this is the last fight. -----------------------BOSS TIPS: ULTIMATE WEAPON-------------------- LV: 100 HP: 100000 MP: 1000 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none To absorb the Ultima Beam, equip Elemental + Time in armor. Cast either Knights of Round 2x, or unleash with Summons and Limit Breaks. Keep HPs at 9999, because in the end he will cast Shadow Flare, which does about 8500 damage. Heal frequently and keep at least one character on the offensive. --------------------------------------------------------------------- After it dies, it makes a crater, which allows you to climb up to the Ancient Forest without needing a Chocobo. You also get Cloud's Ultimate Weapon. 7.2 ruby weapon In the end of Disc II or III, with a Gold Chocobo or the Highwind, ram into the red worm sticking out of the Gold Saucer Desert. But before that, make sure you have met these prerequisites: 1 - each person equipped with a Mime materia. 2 - one person has W-Summon, and Knights of Round junctioned to HP Absorb, and Hades. 3 - 2 people dead, the one alive should have Pheonix + Final Attack. 4 - 9999 HP. 5 - Tetra Elementals and/or Ribbons equipped. 6 - 2 Mystiles and 1 Aegis Armlet equipped. 7 - Everyone's double or triple AP weapons equipped. Put materia necessary to be mastered in the triple slots, and other materia you want to master in doubles. Attack it. ---------------------------BOSS TIPS: RUBY WEAPON-------------------- LV: 1000 HP: 1000000 MP: 1000000 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: fire Without a doubt the hardest battle in the game. With 2 men down, Ruby will stick its tentacles in the ground. Now cast Pheonix on Ruby Don't worry about the tentacles. They will piss you off, but use Remedies and Megalixirs to counter. When your situation is finally stablized, cast W-Summon. First cast Hades. This casts Stop on Ruby. Then cast Knights of Round. 10% of the damage inflicted by Knights of Round will return to you as HP. It heals you. Now have everyone repetitively Mime this W-summon! But at one point Stop won't work, so in order to start it again, you must have Hades and KoR at level 2. With perseverance, you will win. --------------------------------------------------------------------- You will get a Desert Rose as a prize, and 35000 EXP and 50000 AP Give the Desert Rose to the man in the NE house of Kalm for a Gold Chocobo. 7.3 emerald weapon You need a sub. First, go to Underwater Reactor and Morph a Ghost Ship into a Guide Book. Give it to the man in Kalm (upstairs in one of the houses) and he will give you an Underwater materia. Equip it. Now dive in the sub and approach the floating thing. But, prerequisites are as follows: 1 - all 3 alive and @ 9999 HP. 2 - 2 Mystiles and one Aegis Armlet equipped. 3 - Triple and Double AP weapons. 4 - one person has W-Summon and KoR + HP Absorb. 5 - all 3 have Mime. Now ram into Emerald Weapon. ---------------------------BOSS TIPS: EMERALD WEAPON----------------- LV: 1000 HP: 1000000 MP: 1000000 WEAKNESS: none STRENGTH: none It is easier to stabilize yourself here. W-summon KoR 2x and Mime it over and over. Watch out for Aire Tam Storm, which does 1000-2000 times the # of materia equipped. So keep materia count down. HP Absorption by KoR should help immensely. I have been told that it is possible to defeat Emerald Weapon with Cait Sith's slots. The instant kill attack (face of Cait Sith) kills it! I have not attempted this before. --------------------------------------------------------------------- CREDITS SquareSoft - the game.
