Subject: [WHFB] Tourny Battle Report part 3. (long)
Velsquee had faced many challenges already this day. The smoke had finally
cleared from the last battle with the Undead. It had been a gruesome fight
that had finally come down to him and the lich trading blows. He had been
lucky and he knew it. How long would his luck hold out. He had faced the
Dwarfs in the first battle and laughed when their Organ gun blew up at the
very beginning of the battle. Then when magic went all to hell for the lich
and his necromancer sidekick, now it was time to face Orcs and Goblins. The
green horde had easily dismantled a Chaos warrior army in their previous
battle to get here. This was the final battle. The winner of this would
walk home with the Chaos Gods highest reward. The loser would fall from
grace and probably even out of second place.
Velsquee arrayed his troops as he did in the first battle. The
gutterrunners had returned with reports of archers, and lots of them, so he
set up the slaves to be his screen again. He looked out as the Orcs lined
up.
-----------------------------------
Orc and Goblin 2000 pt army:
Savage Orc General on Warboar
Savage Orc BSB on Warboar (st of Shielding)
Savage Orc lvl 1 Shaman on Warboar
5 Savage Orc Boar Boyz
2 units of 10 Arrer boyz w/ Crossbows
4 units of 5 night goblin archers w/ 1 fanatic ea.. (only 3 came out, but I
think he just forgot to loose the last one.)
8 Black Orcs
25 Night Goblin w/ spear, led by a Boss
Lv 4 Night goblin shaman, w/ Book of Ashur ?? (took high magic?)
2 Doom Divers
------------------------------------------
Velsquee knew this was a shooty army, but if they were routing he
didn't want them to rally late, so he stood back and waited for the greenies
to make the first move. The Skavenbrew was handed to him and he tilted it
back, and for the third time today a frenzy overtook him. (rolled 5 for all
three battles). The Orcs on boarz ran forward as fast as they could. And
the archers all moved up, except for the crossbowmen that shot at the slaves
in front of Velsquee and killed several. The doom diver landed right into
them and the last couple ran. The other doom diver missed his mark. The
winds blew fair, and the goblin ate his mushroom. With all that power, he
tried a Hand of gork spell, and Steekter, the warlock Master, ordered one of
his underlings to use a dispel scroll. With that, the goblins relinquished
the power he was holding?
Velsquee ordered his Clanrats to hold firm and maneuvered to take the
charge of the Boars. The slaves left moved up and released a fanatic in
each of the 2 archer units on the left flank. One ran through the slaves
and killed two, the other didn't quiet make it. The Others except the Rat
Ogres moved up. The Warpfire thrower lit off and arced high into the air.
landing partially on the boarz and some on the large goblin unit following.
It killed one boar boy and 3 of the goblins, but they held fast. Steekter
said not to worry, they were prepared to really let loose with the magic.
The winds blew strong, but the Night goblin drained the magic, before a
single spell was let loose.
The Borz charge in, the Warpfire thrower rips through the middle of them
and kills 2, the globadiers throw their poison wind globes and kill 2 more,
leaving only the General, BSB and Shaman. Velsquee, his chieftain and
Steekter all throw their axes, but can't make it past the armor of the boar
heroes. The Three smash into the clanrats. An assassin gets the nod from
Velsquee and jumps to the front and cuts down the Battle standard bearer
before anyone else can move. The Orc general throws his full furry into
attacking Velsquee and does one wound. This really pisses Velsquee off.
The Shaman attacks but is ineffectual as are the boars. Velsquee attacks
back and wounds the ugly orc twice. Then Steekter attacks the shaman with
the Storm Daemon and kills him. The lone orc comes out of his frenzy at the
devastation he has come to, but refuses to quit. The arrer bozy and goblin
shooteys all shoot and do minor casualties. The Orc general is stunned by
where things have changed so quickly. His night goblin isn't near a Waaagh
source so all he gets are his mushroom power. It wasn't much.
The swarms charge into a goblin archer unit. The Censor Bearers hit the
Black Orcs. The Monks hit an archer unit and took a fanatic, that killed
one monk. The gutterrunners throw at another archer unit but fail to
wound. The Warpfire thrower unable to get into combat shoots at the big
Night goblin unit. Perfect shot. 17 hit and 15 killed. Unbelievable, but
within range of their general they don't run. Mighty brave goblins if you
ask me. Then Velsquee let the large orc have it with all he had, and the
Orcs head was bashed in from the blow and he fell lifeless to the ground.
Seeing this the goblin shaman ran, 2 of the archer units ran, the swarm
unable to catch the one they were chasing. The large unit of goblins,(not
so large anymore) ran as well, as did one of the doom divers. The censor
bearers mainly killed themselves but managed to win the combat slightly, but
the black Orcs held firm. The Plague priest killed all 5 goblins he faced,
single handedly. Velsquee looked over at Steekter. They have no-no shamans
left. Kill-kill them all with your magic. Steekter smiled as the winds
blew strong and he had all the power he needed to kill anything he wanted.
Again, just as he raised his hands, the magic was drained from the air.
One goblin archer unit rallied. The doom diver fired, but sputtered on
the ground and almost hit the routing goblins just in front of them. The
Black Orcs couldn't stand up to the censor bearers for a second round and
died to the orc. The Arrer bozy shot at the monks and killed a couple, but
they could see the defeat that was coming.
The Skaven hordes all moved up. The Priest, Juhal, and his monks
charged another unit of goblin archers and again Juhal killed every goblin,
not even given his monks a chance to swing. The swarms charged into the
just rallied archers, but only killed one and took a couple of wounds in
return. Finally Steekter let loose with the plague on the Orcs with the
crossbows, but only killed one, before it stopped. The Orcs were too damn
tough. The rest didn't really matter as an early ran stopped the fighting
and Velsquee let the remaining goblins run off of the battlefield.
It had been a glorious day for Velsquee's Vermintide and for Velsquee
himself. He looked up into the sky, hoping beyond hope for the glimpse of
the Great Horned one looking down at him again. But there were no fancy
clouds or visions to be had today, only the rain. Again, he had won his
battles easily. His forces were too much for most generals to handle. The
Chaos gods handed him the gold prize and congratulated him, but it wasn't
quiet the same. The Orcs and goblins hadn't been as tough a victory as the
undead had been earlier. He wandered of the other armies, and how they
fared. The rain, was beginning to bring a chill to the air. He wrapped
into his cloak and led his army back into the tunnels for the long trek back
to Skavenblight.
-------------------------------------------
Well it was a fun time had by all. What happened was the store was closing
in 15 minutes and we had to wrap it up quickly, during the 4th turn, but the
Orc and goblin player conceded. The final scores were not tallied up in
the rush, but the final standings were:
1st: Me (Skaven)
2nd: Tony (undead)
3rd & 4th: Andrew (Chaos) & the Orc and Goblin player
5th & 6th: Dave (Chaos) & the other Skaven player.
I went 3-0 and Tony 2-1. Everybody else went 1-2 as Dave beat the Skaven
player in the final round (YEEAAHHHH!!!, Way to go Dave), and Andrew lost to
Tony and his undead.
I think I did real well, I only gave up 1 VP in two of my games and 3
against the Undead. (Only because I failed my rally test on the last turn
by rolling an 11 for my Rat Ogres.) Over all it was a great tournament, but
we were hoping for more players. The MVP award has to go to my clanrats.
Between them and my General, they killed all 3 generals I faced. The Black
Amulet killed the Lich I fought and would love to outlaw this item as way to
cheesy, or at least raise it to 60 or 70 points. I hate to bring it, but
when facing one, it is the only item that works well against them. And half
the armies had one in them.
Second award goes to my Warpfirethrower he shot no less than 5 to 7
times during the tourny and never blew up. Only in the Dwarf battle did one
of the crew suffer a wound.
Most disappointing of the tourny was my warlocks offense. They drew
great spells every game. I drew Plague in all three games and killed a
grand total of about 7 models with this supper awesome, kill an army spell.
It killed 5 dwarfs in the first game. Only the wraith in the second and one
orc in the third. They did work well for stopping my opponents magic. The
undead only ever got Van Hals off in our game, and succeeded in destroying 2
of his spells, while he lost a 3rd to drain magic. While the Orcs got one
spell off. It was during the 4th turn that I didn't count because we had to
stop in the middle. His Shaman rallied on the 4th turn, ate a mushroom and
cast fiery convocation on a slave unit with 4 guys left in it. I was
laughing so hard I let it go, while I was holding my Destroy magic scroll, a
dispel scroll and several dispels in my hand. I let him kill the 2nd unit
of slaves so he could get the one point he got for killing both slave units.
(total of 50 pts. rounded up gives 1 pt in our VP system.)
Two funny lines I heard: "What do Censor Bearers do, and what is fog of
death?" You hear that one every tournament.
2nd best line, when I picked up my 10 slaves, that the O&G player had
thrown everything into killing, I said "Well there goes 25 points" and my
opponents reply. "All those guys are only 25 pts?" It was the look more
than the line that got me.
Well until next time.
Hope everyone enjoyed it.
