Subject: [WHFB] [Batrep] Bretonnia vs Wood Elves
Well I just recently bought the WE army book and spent my life's savings
on a 2000pt army. So I quickly called my friend, a regular DE player. So
the Loren kins would face their rebellious cousins I thought. But
noooo... he rocked over with nothing and said "I WANT TO USE YOUR WOOD
ELF ARMY!" After a brief discussion/biffo I finally let him use them,
anyways I would still be learning the rules aswell.
We decided to play a 2000pt game using 50pts magic item limit, VP100, 4
turns and no special characters. I used my Bretonnian Army, Arthou's
Honour Guard, previously seen in a battle against the evil of Chaos.
Let's see..., a brief story to explain why Bretonnia would fight their
allies...and our loveable hero, Giso, is involved yet again.
After his brave accomplishments in the Battle of Goutsberg, Giso was
given the oppurtunity to be a permanent member of Arthou's Honour Guard.
He graciously accepted and was now the leader of the mounted squire
contigent of Arthou's army.
His first task was to deliver a message for the King of Bretonnia to
the folk of Loren. To Giso it was a task of upmost importance and he did
not want to mess it up at all.
Days later, Giso neared the Forest of Loren. He did not know much about
the Wood elves, being in the north of Bretonnia. As he approached the
trees he began hearing noises. He then began to felt sensations bellow
his stomach...it was...it was...the call of nature!
"Good grief!" Giso cried, "Where can I find a decent outhouse all the
way out here!" Giso hurried his horse to the trees and dismounted. He
looked left, and he looked right, and then just let it rip! All over a
tree! Unknown to Giso, he was pissing all over Agoodroot, the age old
treemen!
The message had been delivered but now the kindreds were gathering for a
meeting. The meeting did not really get underway until they all smelt
something. It was the smell of homosapien urine. Agoodroot was
approaching and pretended not to notice all the elves covering their
noses. "Look! I want retribution for this disgrace!" Agoodroot cried.
"Agoodroot, I know it must have been humialiating for you but we can't
do anything. Dont you understand? They are our allies." an elf
explained. "Look! If the wood elves will not help me! All the treemen
will not be so willing to help the wood elves."
It was a hard decision but one Bulldosor, a cunning Wood elf general,
had to make. "I will represent Agoodroot to bring retribution for this
incident. I will explain to the King of Bretonnia that a honourable
battle be faught between our armies, like a trial by combat, as the
Bretonnians call it." All the other elves agreed and so Bulldosor began
to mobilize his army.
Giso was summoned to the court of Couronne, before the King and Arthou.
The squire quietly stepped in. "You summoned me, my lords?" Giso
mumbled. "Giso, while you were delivering a message to the folk of Loren
you apparently,...heh...erm...you apparently pissed all over a TREEMEN!
haha!" The court burst into a frenzy of laughter. All the nobles, the
King and even Arthou could not hold back. Giso felt like shit. The King
continued, "Erm erm...sniff, ahh, anyways seriously, the Wood elves
demand a trial by combat and I have gladly given them one. Arthou, my
noble lord, your army will march down to the the Tree of Woe, the chosen
battlefield. And there the issue will be settled. As Arthou walked Giso
out, the court once again burst into laughter. Giso didnt even want to
see Arthou's poor efforts to hold back his laughter. He just looked
down.
I picked the army for him to use because well, I did but the miniatures
for it.

Magic
Me: Fireball, Hold fast, Teleport, Curse
Him: Corusation of Finrier, Deadlock, assault of stone, apotheosis
There was little magic involved, we were more concentrated on the big
fight, as you will see. In fact no spells got off as he used both his
dispel scrolls and dispelled everything else. We did not play Total
power. He barely cast anything, never leaving the archer unit. His
banner got him 1 power hehe. So magic had no effect on the battle.
The Bretonnians knelt and began to pray to their goddess, the Lady of
the Lake. Seeing this Bulldosor yelled out a great war cry and spurred
his great eagle next to Hidenseek's little group of guerilla fighters.
The dryads followed their lord and also moved to the otherside of the
waywatchers. The gladeriders rode at full pace towards Arthou and his
knights. Rapmaster B and his wardancers leaped, danced and hiphopped
through the woods. Agoodroot moved between the two woods ready to spring
on Arthou and his knights. Effsixteen and his elfmen moved just behind
the scouts to protect an important flank. Tweesap gave the order to fire
at Spearalot's knights. Some were overcome with the beautiful visions of
the Lady and were fixed still, while the other's arrows found their mark
but did not penetrate the knights thick armour. This poor effort of
elven archer got Hidenseek to wip out his hail of doom arrow. He took
careful aim at Spearalot's unit and in a split second four knights died,
unable to finish their praying. The other waywatchers followed thier
leaders example but were only able to kill another knight. Bulldosor
drew back his Bow of Loren and shot at Giso and his friends. Howerver
only one of them fell. It was Booby, the fat kid. The scouts however did
just as poorly as the archers and did not cause a single wound on
Arthou's knights, most overwhelmed by a vision of the beautiful Lady.
The knights were back on their horses and began trotting off. Both
Arthou and Spearlot moving forward in unision, Merlina also moving along
with the knights. Giso and friends trotted in front of the wood,
blocking Bulldosor from charging Spearalot. Bed had charged the warhawk
riders while Till took to the skies. Bed cried out a challenge to
Effsixteen and with his great skill of jousting killed Effsixteen in a
great dogfight. Merlina began to summon great powers to cast fireballs
onto the dryads but Tweesap was able to dispel her powers.
Bulldosor opened his lunchbox and pulled out a flask of magical liquid,
'Jolt Cola' it was known by the kindreds, and drank it. He then took to
the skies. The gladeriders spurred their elven steeds and charged Arthou
and his knights. Arthou in responce spurred his warhorse forward to
counted charge them but stopped when suddenly out of the woods camp
Agoodroot and Rapmaster B and friends. Leaping out of the trees to
charge Arthou and their knights were the scouts, indeed a brave act.
Hidenseek ordered his men to shoot at Giso and friends and felled three
of the peasants. Tweesap and the archers again failed to wound anything.
(I never appreciated the blessing until now.) The 'big fight' was now
taking place. Rapmaster B called to his friends to begin dancing Shadows
Coil and Arthou and Wwayne were not able to fight. (Shit! He placed them
touching my two characters!) With the heroes out of the rest were able
to cause three wounds onto the knights. But even the charge of
Agoodroot, gladeriders, wardancers and the scouts were not able to scare
off Arthou an his men. The knights had won the combat! Even without
fighting. The scouts lost their nerves and fled. Meanwhile high in the
air, Bulldosor made short work of Bed thanks to the aid of Jolt Cola.
Bed's mount fled in terror. His brother Till was also killed by the rest
of the warhawk riders and his mount also fled.
With the lost of two great heroes Giso and friends charged the
waywatchers, spotting one who was moving from branch to branch. However
as they approached the trees nets fell on them. Hidenseek and the rest
jumped down from the branches to fight Giso but one of them fell right
into a mounted squire's spear and carced it. Hidenseek and the rest
however was able to kill but two of them. The big fight continued and
this time Arthou was able to fight but wasn't able to kill Rapmaster B!
(Very very poor dice rolls on my part). But noone else fell and the
fight continued. Spearalot and his men readied a charge on the dryads.
Again Merlina tried to summon enough energy to cast fireballs onto the
dryads but alas Tweesap read her dispel scroll.
And thrice did Tweesap and the archers let their arrows loose and again
did not a single knight fell from his saddle. The warhawk riders swooped
down to join the big fight as they saw the scouts continuing their
retreat (oh those elfies will never become waywatchers now!). Bulldosor
also joined the fight (big fight!). With enemies on all fronts all that
was left was Arthou and Wayne. But the brave knights were still able to
stand their ground. Elsewhere Hidenseek finished off Giso and his
friend. The dryads prepared for the imminent charge of Spearalot and his
knights.
With his cry of charge Spearalot and his knights ran straight through
the dryads even though they shape shifted in the Willow aspect,
Spearalot and Girlahad doing the job alone. They ran down the rest and
crashed into Tweesap and her guards. For Arthou and Wayne however their
fate had come. The treemen wasted Wayne and Arthou broke, having no
where to run he was slain.
(Well he was all surrounded so he had no where to run, we played it that
he would just be killed because he was cornered. Is this correct?)
The warhawk riders and treemen still wanting to do battle charged
Merlina . With Arthou gone she could not take anymore and became to
scared of the Agoodroot. She ran but the air cavalry was able to cut her
down. Bulldosor flew near Tweesap to lend his aspiring leadership.
Spearalot's charge took down quite a few archers but Tweesap was able to
hold.
However she could not hold anymore and so she and her archers ran, only
to be cut down by Spearalot and his knights, some retribution.
The issue had been settled and both sides returned to their homes. The
bodies of brave Bretonnians and Wood elves were buried under enscribed
rocks and stones to mark a glorious battle. Though they would
return...miraculously!
Brets 732 - 1863 (2 table quarters) WE
Wow! What a good investment!
But things would have been very different if my General was able to
hold, it was a reasonable break test. Well not much different but the
scores would have been a lot closer. Well his plans was to lure me with
his gladeriders and to flank me. Well it worked. I love all elements of
the WE army. Next time I will be using it! Hope you enjoyed.
Comments welcome.
