Hello Short Legs belovers! I'm back and I'm proud.
The Valourous Dawi lead by Ungrim Ironfist were to go in Ulthuan
and meet their ever enemies, the Hight Elves.
Forgive me again for all the mistakes you shall find.
Please tell me if you find something wrong with the way we
handle the rules, for I shall thank you.
Ungrim Throng
*Ungrim with Armor of Protection, Ruby Calice, Runic Axe with 3 Runes
of Paring, Shield : 381
*Burlok with Iron Meteoric Armor, Hammer with 2 Runes of Fury and
Master Rune of Swiftness: 220
*RuneSmith with Scepter with 3 Runes of anti-magic, gromril
armor with Rune of Stone, Jade Amulette, Shield, 2Hand hammer and
additionnal weapon (so I can coose A3 F4 or A2 F6 going last) : 170
*Hammerer Champion with Golden Scepter of Norgrim : 104
*11 Hammerers with 2Hand hammer. Standard and Musician. Rune of
Courage on Standard : 296
*15 Miners Standard and Musician. 3 Runes of Battle on Standard : 311
*14 Slayers Standard and Musician. Additionnal hand weapon : 192

*1 Gyrocopter with Rune of Penetration (S+1): 125

As you can see I changed the special character magic items. Don't
screem, read my opponent army list and you will change your mind!
Hight Elves Army
*Tyrion as General : 425
*Level 5 Mage with unknown magic items (I guess he must have Crown of
Saphery) : 328+125+???
*5 Dragon Princes of Caledor with Standard of Protection : 227.5
*15 Spearmen with Ithilmar armor with musicien and unknown magic
standard
(he said it costs 100 but I don't know witch one) : 221+100
*12 Archers with light armor and long bows : 169
*1 Repete Bolt Thrower : 100
*5 Elerian Reaver + bows + spears : 155
Total : 1850+???
Ungrim (U) goes with Slayers (S).
Burlok (B) goes in Miners (M).
Hammerer champion (C) of course in Hammerers (H)
Runesmith (R) stays with one organ gun (OG2).
Gyrocopter (GY) alone.
Tyrion (TY) joins the Dragon Princes (DP).
Mage (M5) hides behind Spearmen (S). He previousely put him just
next to them but I warned him that I could kill him on first turn
with OGs so he hides it.
Archers (A) and Repete Bolt Thrower (RBT) are alone.
Elerian Reavers (ER) are alone too.
There is a tower on my far right and a small house even further.
Nothing on my left. I got a hill right in the front middle
of my deploiment zone and another smaller one on my left. HE player
put one big house behind his archers.
Setup as folows :

OG1 is on left hill. OG3 and OG2 with RuneSmith are on the
central hill. Gyro is hidden behind it (fear again that RBT).
His Elerian Reavers don't use their free march move! (He forgot
about it so I told him. But he said no!)
I go first as always ;-)
D1 : Miners, Slayers and Hammerers march move forward with their
Characters in. Gyro moves to the right of field to hide behind the
tower.
OG3 fires all five tubes on DP but manage to kill only one! Two
shots too long (10'), one too short (2') and one 1 out of the two
dice for wounding on 2+! Arrrrg, I can't belive it but the worst
is to come.
OG2 blows up on first barrel! Re-arrrrg, I can't belive it! My
RuneSmith was with it but since nothing says in the rules that
somebody else than the crew is killed, he doesn't suffer any wound.
OG1 shots at RBT and takes it off two wounds. Unfortunatly, it
missfire on shot 3 and has to reload for a all turn!
Gosh, what a nightmare. Who said that 3 OGs is cheesy???
HE1 : Spearmen, DP, and ER move forward but not at full speed.
RBT fires at Miners, killing two. Archers shot at Slayers, killing
two too and activating Ruby Calice. ER get to shoot at OG3 without
success (Love that T4!).
M5 cast Coruscation of Finreir. I don't have any dispell card so
I don't dispell that one. But that is a very big mistake I guess
because now he can cast anywhere on the field and fly 24' and get 2+
armor and can't be harmed from the ground. That is something
I didn't know (I fear mainly Fiery Convocation and Assault of Stone).
Then he casts Glamour of Teclis on the Miners and I don't dispell
it either, counting on my hight leadership from Burlock. It founded
to be the right choise since I didn't failed any of the Ld test each
time I moved my Miners (it's said, so I won't recall it later).
D2 : Miners march move forward again. Others stay put. OGs reload.
Gyro moves behind (slightly on the left) the Elerian Reavers
to toast them. This works perfectly and 3 live boiled elves fell to
the ground. Sadly their fellows stay in.
No dispell card so I get no chance to get rid of that Coruscation of
Finreir.
HE2 : Spearmen charge Miners. Mage flies behind Slayers. DP and Tyrion
charges Hammerers with Golden Scepter of Norgrim activated for
extra strength.
Archers fire at Slayers again (but with -2 penalty thanks to Ruby
Calice) and
kill two. He forgots to make is Elerian Reavers to charge OG3
(well that's what he said afterwards but I
think he was afraid and secretly hopping that he could kill the crew
with the bows). So they fire at OG3 and kill one crew but they stay put.
Dragon Prince with Tyrion hit hard my Hammerers and kill 3 (champion is
safe,
ouf!). Champion kills one in return and thanks to Rune of Courage I
auto pass my break test.
15 Spearmen in 3 ranks kill only one Miner. I suddenly remember that
Burlock
should have strike first thanks to his Runes on Axe but the fault is
mine
so he strike second. AND KILLS 5 out of 5 attacks. I LOVE HIM! Miners
kill
two more and with Runic Standard he looses by 9. I think one second
about
asking him what's his magic standard does but since I helped him a lot
so far,
I keep my big mouth shut. Of course his speargirls flee but I don't
catch up.
Then he casts Fiery Convocation on Miners but I dispell it
automaticaly with one Rune from RuneSmith.
No more power left.
D3 : Miners charge fleeing spearpussies and destroy them.
Gyro move behind the little house on the far right in my enemy territory
(can't be shot by archers). Slayers with Ungrim charge Tyrion and DP.
OG3 Kills the two remaining Elerian Reavers (DP and Tyrion pass panic
test for
destroyed unit nearby).
No Slayer manage to wound Tyrion with his 1+ save. 8 attacks S4 failed,
dammed, I need more strength.
Runes on Ungrim Axe negate 3 Tyrion attacks so he fails to wound Ungrim.
Dragon Princes kill one brave Hammerer. They powerfully strike back and
for
3 wounds to be saved on 5+ : he makes three 5's! Re-re-arrrrg! Bloody
dice!
I forgot about my bonus for flank charge so it's a drow (only one rank
bonus left).
No dispell card so I get no chance again to get rid of that Coruscation
of Finreir.
RBT crew fail their panic test because of destroyed unit and they flee!
HE3 : Archers shoot at Slayers! He says no problemo because DP and
Tyrion have
1+ save so he can't harm them. Hum.. do you see what I mean when I say
those
Hight Elves are not worth respect! Anyhow he kills one slayer - a releaf
for
him anyway;-). RBT crew rally.
Tyrion and DP manage no wounds. Slayers ans Hammerers do nothing too.
I forget again that I got flank attack and one bonus rank so no break
test :-(
Mage casts Fiery Convocation on Miners but again I auto dispell it. I
still had
no dispell card! And I remember well that I got Drain Magic on my very
first turn!
D4 : OG1 destroy RBT with one mighty shot. Gyro moves closer
to archers that are now in fire range. We are running out of time so I
don't move my Miners that can't do anything anymore anyway. Some slayers
move to the back of Tyrion so I can fight on 3 sides.
Gyro fries 6 archers out of 10 in range and they flee. Yahoo! Gyro
rules!
Tyrion and Dragon Prince keep on failing to wound Ungim and Hammerers.
With only one attack for Tyrion and the S3 of DP, they can't do nothing.
But the
12 attacks from Ungrim and Slayers are harmless on Tyrion! God that 1+
is too
much. Hopefully 3 Hammerers and their Champion kill one or two DP (I
can't
remember if it's not even three!). But Tyrion makes his Ld test. I
forget
again that I got a +3 bonus for resolution thanks to rear and flanck
attack :-(
No dispell card again!
HE4 : not played because the shop was closing!
That's a 7-1 at end of D4. Maybe more with table quaters.
I probably would have won the battle between U+S+H+C against TY+DP on
HE4 but
nothing is for sure. If archers rally I could have toasted them on D5 or
destroyed
on charge if they didn't. I had one Dispell Rune left so I could negate
the
Fiery Convocation he was probably planning to put on me. So I guess the
result
could only have growned up for my side.
After battle thoughts : God what a bad luck with OGs. But I belive
that's
the price to pay so I cope with it. Gyro did marvelous again. I'm
thinking
about having a second one but it might be too much. I would have nothing
to do for him because one does all the job already! Slayers are pretty
useless
against Elves with their low T. Maybe I sould use them as screen in
small
units but I dislike it.
