Subject: [WHFB] CD vs. Chaos Warriors
Chaos Dwarf General Rattzzenfrattzzan's army was on the march. Flushed
with victory over the Dark Elves, he moved further into human territory in
his quest for slaves. The Hobgoblin wolfrider scout assured him that this
time the army he saw was, indeed, humans and not Elves. "This is good",
thought the General, "I am ready to enslave many humans." Of course, the
dull witted Hobgoblin forgot to report that these "humans" were actually
Chaos Warriors and Chaos Ogres, not the helpless Empire Humans and Ogres.
D'oh.
Since General Rattzzenfrattzzans 3 Death Rockets were destroyed in the
battle against the Dark Elves, they were replaced by 1 Earthshaker, and 2
units of Hobgoblin Archers.

We agreed to play at least 4 turns and then continue until someone else
wanted the gaming table, since we were at a local store. As no one else
ever showed up, it was a fight until one or the other army was destroyed.
Rather than a regular battle report, I'll hit some high/low-lights.
The Chaos Dwarfs played it defensively, waiting for the CW's to come to
them, setting up a nice little pocket for the Ch-Knights and Ch-Warriors to
come into. In the meantime, the Harpies managed to kill the Hobgoblin Bolt
Thrower crew. The Harpies were themselves destroyed by a rear charge from
the Hobgoblin Wolfriders. On the one flank, the Chaos Ogres charged a unit
of Hobgoblin Archers (who were supposed to be screening the unit of
Blunderbusses) who fled. The Ogres ended up battling the CD Blundersbusses
who fled once, were not caught, rallied and tied up the Ch-Ogres for a turn
until the General/Great Taurus made it over to help. They both eventually
broke the Ch-Ogres and even the CD Blunderbussers ran them down.
A unit of 8 Hobgoblin Archers brought down the Chariot, leaving only 1
crewman alive (we give VP's at this stage as no steeds are left). The 1
crewman left his disabled chariot, defeated and ran the Hobgoblin Archers
off the table. He in turn was killed as he was caught by the CD General
chasing down the Ogres.
Earlier, the CD General had engaged the Ch-Sorcerer, who had turned into a
Hydra by a Dark Magic spell. This combat left the Sorcerer dead, but the
CD General had 1 wound remaining for most of the battle.
The Earthshaker proved a bad purchase for this game. Not only did it do
virtually nothing positive for the whole battle, it proved a decisive point
in ultimate battle.
The Sneaky Gits and the Bull Centaurs proved too much for the Ch-Warriors.
With ranks, and flank bonuses, these two units destroyed and ran down the
Ch-Warriors. These two units eventually got tangled up with the
Ch-Knights. After suffering numerous casualties to themselves, they
managed to kill all the Ch-Knights.
Now, if you'd read this far, you're probably thinking that things look
pretty good, perhaps, for the Chaos Dwarfs, and you'd be right. At this
point, the only Chaos Warrior unit left was the Chaos Warrior Lord on his
Juggernaut, each of which already had 1 wound. The Chaos Dwarf army
consisted of the General (1 wound left) on his Great Taurus, CD Master
Sorcerer, 2 Bull Centaurs, 10 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, 7 Blunderbussers, 20
Sneaky Gits...and the Earthshaker. It was at this point, I (the CD
Commander) should have conceeded.
The Chaos Lord was at this point locked in combat with the Sneaky Gits,
both units with the Crown of Command. I then charged the Chaos Dwarf
Warriors into the fray, and after 2 rounds of beating on them, the Ch-Lord
decimated the unit. The 2 Bull Centaurs then charged in and as well as the
CD General/Great Taurus. I figured that the General/Great Taurus and/or
Bull Centaurs were the only things left that could defeat the Ch-Lord and I
needed to do it on the charge. With only one wound left, and a lower
initiative, the CD General was doomed if the Ch-Lord was able to fight
back. Being chaotic, the Earthshaker crew decided to shoot its shell into
the battle. The war machine, of course, blew up, and the effects caused
everything within 10" to fall to the ground. This, of course, included the
entire battle with the Ch-Lord! So much for my charge!!
Well, it was all over for the shouting. The Chaos Lord proceeded to chew
up every unit on the table. The battle was over, with one bloodied Chaos
Warrior Lord the only survivor. Khorne was pleased! (Hashut was not)
Moral of this story? Never agree to a "play until one army is dead" battle
with a Chaos Warrior Lord on a Juggernaut led army. :-(
