So, unless you're playing High or Dark Elves, shove all your knights and bowmen into lance and arrowhead formations. I like to make 1 big unit of grail knights (10 or 15 depending on how many point game you're playing) flanked by smaller units of Questing Knights and Knights of the Realm. I'd leave my Knights Errant at home even if I have Morgiana le Fay. I'd put a unit of bowmen between each knightly unit and one unit on the outside left and one on the outside right. If you have mounted squires, use them to attack the opponent's flanks. I would like to point out that these guys are basically kamikazes, but its worth it.
Keep your general behind the battle lines unless a KNIGHTLY unit is in trouble so that your knights could use his leadership. Get yourself a battle standard bearer if possible too, keep it behind your lines like the general and give it a magic banner like the Banner of Wrath to help your knights.
You noticed that I haven't said anything about the heroes. That's because they're just so
versatile! You can use them for anything! If you want to know some tactics for using
heroes, look at my still-to-come analysis page. Usually, I'd get a hero for the Grail
Knights and possibly the Questing Knights (but I doubt it) and one on a Pegasus. I do
suggest the use of special characters. Bretonnians have some pretty cool ones too, and
their mini's look cool too!
I don't suggest using Louen Leoncouer to lead your army though, because to me he's worthless! No special save, regular general like stats, 75% protection from magic, and NO SPECIAL SAVE!!! THIS IS THE FREAKING KING OF THE WHOLE FREAKING NATION AN HE DOESN'T HAVE A FREAKING SPECIAL SAVE?!?!?!?! HELLO!!!!!??? ONE CANNONBALL AND HE'S DEAD!
Now, to take my mind off that piece of crap of a whimp king, I'll talk about the
worthwhile special characters for Bretonnia. There are only three really good ones:
The Green Knight (my favourite!)
Morgiana le Fay (cool unique abilities, but when it comes to fighting, she's a woosie!!)
Bertrand le Brigand (make them into a unit of 15 and watch the arrows fly!)
Well, when you begin the game, run your knights into your enemy's strongest units.
Remember to use the charge. The charge is sooo important. It lets you hit first and you
get that +2S bonus.
While your knights are duking it out with the enemy, get the mounted squires and charge
the units already in HtH unless there's an enemy unit heading for your knights. Now
assuming that your enemies don't break or annihilated by now, move up your battle standard
bearer and unload your Banner of Wrath on the most troublesome enemy units (Wraiths
especially comes to mind!). Now, I don't really have to tell you what to do with the
bowmen do I? Just move them up around the battle line then stand and let the arrows fly!
Now, what if your enemy has war machines? They can kick knight ass (or squash, whatever!). That's what your hero on Pegasus is for! Give the hero a Virtue of Devotion, Sword of Teclis, and either Armour of Protection or Ring of Corin. The Sword of Teclis will kill most war machines since they only have 3 wounds. If it has more, give your hero a Blade of Leaping or Virtue of Knightly Temper.
