Delaying the Reinforcements

THIS SCENERIO IS THE FIRST IN A TWO-PART BATTLE. SEE DIETER'S LAST

STAND FOR PART II.

Siegfried knew that the destruction of Dieter's castle was dependant on being able to prevent Dieter's reinforcements from returning to assault his own troops from the rear.

Unfortunately, the army's approach was truly relentless...having tried traps, spells, wards, ambushes, and everything else conceivable, the only remaining recourse was to hold the army back by main force. A difficult battle indeed, but one that must be fought.

Netcampagin senario:

Empire/Kislev Vs. Undead

2.6:1 in favor of Undead

This ratio is used to alter initial points. Set the amount that the Empire will have for the fight, and then multiply that figure by 2.6 for the Undead. Please take note of the army size allotted to the Undead...the army size used in the next battle for the Undead must be the same.

Siegfried's Forces:

May be led by an Empire Lord or an Empire Hero, at the choice of the Empire player.

May be chosen from the Empire and Kislev army lists. The Kislev army list is located at http://users.idibbs.com/andorax/netcamp/armies/kislev/Kislev.htm

May not include Steam Tanks, Reiksguard Knights or Knights of the Blazing Sun.

0-1 War Machines.

0-1 Mage Lord.

Undead Forces:

Led by a Necromancer Lord

May not include Mummies

No more than 10% of your points may be spent on fliers.

A unit of "infantry" of equal size must be purchaced for each unit of "cavalry".

A unit of "infantry" of twice the size must be purchaced for each unit of Carrion.

Scenerio Rules:

No magic items of over 75 points in value.

The Undead are coming out of the mountains into the vale where Dieter's Castle is located. Set up the Undead side of the board with fairly heavy mountainous terrain, and place very little terrain on the Empire side (1-2 hills perhaps).

The Undead player goes first.

The Empire player is running a Holding Action here. The only important matter is how many or few Undead troops get past and to the Castle for the fight. Victory Points are therefore not tracked for this battle. If this battle is being fought by itself, award the Empire player 1 VP for each round he still has surviving, unbroken models on the table, and disregard quarters.

The Undead in this battle are mostly those of Dieter, and his near presence sustains them. Thus, the rule for the Undead General dying or fleeing does not apply broad-form to this fight, as only a few of the units here belong to the Necromancer Lord leading the fight. Roll a D6 for each Undead unit, and only apply the normal rules for the General dying on a 6+.

If this battle is being fought as the first of the two (the second being Dieter's Last Stand), it will be necessicary to keep track of the Undead forces carefully. Note the size, condition, etc. of every Undead unit that moves off the board on the Empire side, as well as the turn it moved off. Any "one use" items are considered used up for the next battle. Every Undead unit that leaves the board on the Empire side will appear at the beginning of the next turn in the following Scenerio (ie, if a unit of Skeletons marches off the Empire side of the board in Turn 3, they appear (identical in number and condition) in Dieter's Last Stand at the start of Turn 4.

Undead units which "fly high" may, in the following turn, fly towards the castle (leaving on the Empire side). Thus, if a unit of Carrion "fly high" in turn 1, they can "fly towards the castle" in turn 2, appearing in Dieter's Last Stand on turn 3. NOTE: Undead units CANNOT "fly towards the castle" if there are Empire units "flying high", as it is not possible to simply ignore the threat such an enemy poses.

Continue play even if every Empire unit is killed or has fled, so as to determine which troops successfully get past the Empire edge of the board by Turn 6, and which do not make it to reinforce the later battle.

The battle runs for 6 turns, or until every last Empire model is killed or fled, and the Undead have moved off the table on the Empire side.

Theoretically, should the Empire player manage to defeat the Undead in this battle, the Empire player may choose to reinforce the later battle himself. In order to do this, the Empire player must reduce the Undead on the battlefield to equal or less than their own point value in number. Victory Points are not counted for this battle.

The Executioner's Axe, Forbidden Rod, and Book of Ashur may be used, but the rules stated in the White Dwarf FAQ do apply (WD 216 for the Book, WD222 for the Axe and Rod). They are repeated here for your convenience:

Executioner's Axe: Dark Elf Only. Thus, it may not be taken this battle.

Book of Ashur: Adds one level, and allows ACCESS ONLY to another magic deck. NO special abilities of the deck chosen are conferred. If High Magic is chosen, you may NOT draw an extra card, may NOT use powers asdispels, and do NOT count as higher level in dispels. If Necromancy is chosen, you may NOT choose your spells, and may NOT recast. Etc.

Forbidden Rod: When used, on a 4+, inflicts D3 wounds on the wielder and quits working for the rest of the battle.

Please report on any characters slain and those Undead (or Emipre) forces who go on to the next battle.

Feel free to make a full battle report out of it, but please summarize the above information at the end.

Date due: August 31, 1998.
