Hello, my name is Pascal and I think of myself as a strong Chaos general winning almost
every battle I play. I think Chaos can overmaster every other army in the Warhammer World.
I play Warhammer for about two and a half years now. I'm 16 years old and I'm the youngest
in our Warhammer group. We play Warhammer with about 10 people.
I have a large Chaos army of about 14.000-16.000 points. I recently started to collect a
Lizardmen army together with my brother.
Well that's about myself, lets start with the tactics.
A good Chaos army consist of at least two gods, I think if you only use one god your
opponent can easily hit you on your weak side. I mean Khorne has no magic, Tzeentch isn't
strong enough in combat, Nurgle has no fast troops or many range spells and Slaanesh.... I
find their Deamons to vulnerable for missile attacks (I think Slaanesh is a woosh).
The best combination of gods is Khorne and Tzeentch, Khorne for their strong hard hitting
characters and of course their Banner of Rage and Tzeentch for their strong magic (a
Sorcerer Lord on a Disc of Tzeentch is the wizard, for only 4 points your wizard
goes flying around the battle field). Well the combination has worked for me for a long
time, and it still does. Ok below I will describe all the Characters and units chaos has
with their strong and weak points.
CHAOS LORD: One of the strongest generals in the game, use this. Don't go
putting him in a unit, he is far to strong for that. Put him on a large flying monster (I
use a Chaos Dragon) for lots of maneuverability and a some extra power from the monster.
The Khorne general is the best choice, with his ten attack and free Chaos armour he is the
ultimate fighting machine (a Khorne general on his Chaos Dragon can attack everything what
you want and kill it !!). Give your general a Runeshield + Chaos armour in one, so that
your opponents weapon doesn't do what it's supposed to do. For extra protection give him
the Helm of Many Eyes so if your opponent gets some stupid idea that he can defeat you
..... SURPRISE you can hit him first. If a character is on a Dragon or other strong
monster kill that monster first, the rider isn't a threat with his magic weapon cancelled.
Last but not least watch look out for magic it's the only thing you are vulnerable to.
BATTLE STANDARD: The strongest in the game (a Slann mage isn't really a battle
standard, its a wizard/general/battle standard in one). Be glad your Battle standard is a
hero, ok he is expensive but he may have two magic items because he's a hero. I use him in
my Knight unit. He is a strong leader and carries a banner (160 points + banner is very
expensive for a banner bearer).
CHAOS HEROES: Very strong leaders with a good LD. Only use them when you're playing
with lots of points, they can easily pump up over 300 points. They are a good match for
other army generals, only look out for Undead/Dwarfs/Slann, they can beat you.
CHAOS CHAMPION: Pretty expensive for a champion but good leaders with their LD of
9. Use them to lead your beastmen in battle (with a LD of 9 you can easily pass your
infighting, I still manage to fail them tough). Very vulnerable with only one wound, give
one of them a Blade of Swift Slaying so he can hit before your opponent does.
BEASTMAN CHARACTERS: Eeeeeeeehhhhh.........me....thinking........me smart. Don't
use them! If you do you'll sink back to the level of an Orc. They are for a chaos army the
weakest characters you can get. They can't lead a unit with their low LD, they aren't good
fighters the only thing good about them is that they have more wounds then Chaos
champions.
MINOTAUR CHARACTER: These characters are good for leading your Minotaurs in battle
and that's it. A little expensive if you compare them with a Chaos Lord, but you can't
have everything cheap and strong.
DRAGON OGRE CHARACTERS: Incredible strong fighters, the best chaos has. It's a
pitty that the Dragon Ogre Lord can't be the army general. You will not be able to put
these babies in lots of battle so if you do get the maximum out of them. Try to increase
their attacks with a Blade of Leaping gold or a Hydra Sword. Look out for their low LD and
a good opponent will try to use spells on them.
CENTAURS CHARACTERS: I haven't used them, so I can't tell much about them. And I
don't think I'm ever going to use them. They are to expensive, have a bad LD, WS and T.
Maybe the Empire army can use them, I sure don't.
CHAOS SORCERERS: Well I don't know where to start, they're good in Hand-to-Hand
combat, can choose between 4 good magic decks, get a fancy special Mark of Chaos and are
not all that expensive.
You don't have to protect your sorcerer, they can well do it on there own. I can tell you
a Tzeentch sorcerer is your best choice, give him a disc and he can fly for only 4 point.
Also a Tzeentch sorcerer can have the reward Fortune of Tzeentch which will give him the
ability to reroll one dice each turn, give him a Chaos Familiar so you can add or subtract
1 from a dice roll so if you really want something to work, that's your combo. Ones again
look out for monsters, there the only thing you've got to watch out for.
BEASTMAN SHAMAMS: I'll be short with them, don't use them. I mean for 20 points
more you have a chaos sorcerer. The only good thing about them is that they have one more
wound then normal, the sorcerer beats them in everything else.
CHAOS KNIGHTS: Here they are, the strongest knights in the Warhammer World (also
the most expensive ones). These boys can really kick ass, with two attacks a weapon skill
of six and a strength of six, when they charge they can break units in only one turn. Use
your Battle Standard in the unit. I almost always use a Khorne battle standard, give him
The Banner of Rage to give the entire unit frenzy (this means six attack per model, four
of the knight and two of steed). If you really want to wipe out a unit in one turn also
give the unit a standard bearer with the Battle Banner. Watch out for Repeating Bolt
throwers, they can do damage to you. You can minimum this damage by including the magic
item Ruby Challenge.
CHAOS WARRIORS: Good main units, a little expensive, but they are worth their
points. Chaos armour option is a must, because otherwise your warriors move only three
inch. A Champion is not needed. I always use a 15 men strong unit with Chaos armour,
shields, additional hand weapons and a banner of shielding. This gives them a 2+ save
against shooting and three attacks in Hand-to-Hand combat with a 3+ save. look out for
cannons and again for Bolt throwers, because they can fire right threw your ranks.
BEASTMAN: Well what to say about them. I don't take them for the fighting because
the simply can't hit anything useful. But with their toughness of four and two wounds they
are a real bargain for only ten points. Their main strength is that they can take lots of
beating before they finally go down. I always take at least 40 of these guys into battle,
I don't know why, but my enemies keep trying to shoot them down with their archers and
cannons (I'm not complaining, better them then my expensive deamons and warriors). Give
your big unit of beastmen a Banner of Defiance (double rank bonus), beastmen can take much
damage so you can expect lots of pleasure with your rank bonus.
CHAOS CHARIOT: Chaaaarge..... The meanest chariot of them all, here the crew of the
chariot can do damage to (I mean the Chaos Warriors not the Beastmen). Always give your
chariot a banner its free of extra costs and gives you +1 combat result. Protect your crew
as best as possible if they die the chariot moves out of control and can crash in your own
units. Scytes is also a must. I give my chariot a Banner of Shielding for extra armour
save, your Warriors can have a 2+ save and the steeds a 5+.
CHAOS HOUNDS: I don't have these models and I don't think I will ever buy them.
CHAOS HARPIES: One thing to say about; them don't use them. Their real LD is six
not eight and they can't have a leader so one terror giving monster will do the job.
DRAGON OGRES: They are hard, very hard, Dragon Ogres are the strongest regiments in
the Chaos army, use them. The only thing is that they're very expensive, so in small
battles you can't effort them. Look out for spells that aim on initiative, that's their
weak spot.
Give the unit a Battle Banner so that you don't have to worry about loosing the combat.
