Death To The Stunties

Of all the armies Chaos will ever come up against, Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs are in my opinion, the hardest to beat. I am a veteran of many battles against these foes, and I have won several outstanding victories against them. In addition to this, I spent 3 years commanding Dwarfs. What follows is how I think you should beat these armies. However, if you attempt to use these and fail, don't blame me!
Dwarfs

Runes - The best thing about Dwarf Runes is that some Dwarf Commanders seen to believe they are compulsory. They get so obsessed that they blow half their army value on Characters and their equipment. They also forget to buy surprise items like the Black Gem of Gnar.

Characters - Your average army will be full of characters, who will undoubtedly have some mega rune weapon with them. Even a Chaos Lord will be hard pushed to combat such a characters. I would recommend using a champion/hero/lord of Khorne armed with a Sword of Swift Slaying or a Helm of Many Eyes and a double handed axe. This way, you should be able to kill them without taking a scratch. I f you don't have any such weapons, try using the Slaanesh spell 'Chaos Spawn'. You will be amazed how easily Dwarfs and anyone else can succumb to this one.

Battle Standard - A special mention should be given to Dwarf battle standards. Most Dwarf armies will have a Master Rune of Valaya or a Rune of Groth One-eye. If left alone, these can be a real thorn in your side. You need to take these out ASAP! I often have a hero on a Disc of Tzeentch act as an assassin, and take him out. Without their standard, Dwarfs are much weaker.

Veterans - Dwarf veterans are a real danger to Chaos armies. Their excellent leadership and high strength and toughness means you often have to fight to the last man. They are hard enough to take out Chaos Warriors and Beastmen, but a unit of Charging Knights can make short work of them. However, watch out for double handed weapons, which can cause lots of damage to your knights.

Clansmen - Don't waste good units on these. One or two units of Chaos Warriors or Beastmen will be quite adequate. Don't fight them in equal numbers though, make sure you get maximum rank bonus.

Thunderers and Crossbowmen - Both of these regiments can be very annoying to Chaos. Thunders can make short work of your Chaos Warriors and Knights. The best thing to do is either put Beastmen in front of them to get shot and protect the good units, or to have Daemons like Flesh Hounds or Daemonettes on Beasts of Slaanesh deal with them.

Slayers - At first, these Dwarfs seem a real problem. However, the only good thing about them is their never retreat rule. Unless they have DH weapons, they have no save modifier to go with their slayer skill. Best of all, they have no armour!

War Machines - Same tactics as Thunderers and Crossbow men. Watch out particularly for Gyrocpters. They disallow ALL saves. However, if use a Disc Rider to kill the driver, they are nothing!

Chaos Dwarfs

With Chaos Dwarfs, most of the same tactical principles used on Dwarfs apply to Chaos Dwarfs. However, there is still a few things that deserve special mention.

Slaves - If you kill their leader, they will run very easily. These are nothing to worry about.

Blunderbusses - The only really effective way to kill these is to buy a flyer and attack them from behind. Whatever you do, don't attack them from the front. You will die!!!!

Earthshaker Cannon - Attack them with flyers, attack them with Daemons, attack from above, send in the cavalry, call an airstrike...just take them out as soon as you can. Otherwise, you will not be able to advance, and them the Bull Centaurs and Blunderbusses will get you. Happy Stunty Smashing!
