Hints and Tips
These are just some hints and tips to help you do better in Warhammer. Most of them are common sense, but it may still help you to read on. Most of these would be for the newbies, you pros probably already know or do this. I might have some that you don't know though.
1. When creating an army, think about what your opponent would pick, and counter pick.
2. Try to always control the skies. The one who controls the sky can swoop down on enemy war machines, light infantry, and no armored troops (like archers).
3. Make a battle plan before the game starts. Try to stick with that plan and make it work.
4. Get magic items and spell decks that would benifit your position or campaign.
5. Make up army positions or formations that work for your army.
6. Make multi-purpose plans and stratagies that work for and against certain races.
7. If you tend to play against the same person over and over again, make up new tactics, or try out some new ones. Or even surprise them every now and then.
8. Never underestimate your opponent. Always assume the worst, but hope for the best.
9. Don't wast points buying armor for your archers or war machine crew, unless you expect that they will get into combat.
10. Always have a backup plan ready for use in case your first one fails before the end of the game.
11. Don't spend money for large monsters or war machines when the same amount of money can be used to buy a large unit of warriors or elite fighters.
12. Have a plan, but don't be so blind that you can't see your opponent's plan.
13. Assume nothing, suspect everything.
14. Move units almost destroyed (1 or 2 models left in the unit) under cover in the trees or behind buildings, and leave them out of the action.
15. Never place important units near the edge of the board when you have a good chance of fleeing off of it.
16. Try to use calvary to flank unsuspecting enemy units.
17. Get rid of powerful war machines ASAP. But don't spend all your effort into doing that.
18. Hold up powerful enemies using your cheapo units. (e.g. Using a Great Eagle to keep an Emperor Dragon at bay. Or "The Black Gem of Gnar").
19. Don't expect your general, special characters, or other characters to win the battle, it will take the whole army.
20. Chariots aren't always the best thing to have, most of them either make or break your army.
21. Try not to spend too much money on accessories, like magic items and extra wizards.
22. Special Characters aren't always a good thing.
23. Dominate the magic phase, and make a good stratagy. (e.g. Like casting a drain magic when you rolled a 12. Your opponent might have that total power to use during their magic phase).
24. Make yourself familiar with your opponents special rules and units. Make sure nothing surprises you.
25. Regulate your points. (e.g. In a low point game, use low point models).
