Tactics on the battlefield

On this page I hope to collect a lot of tips and tactics that might help you out in battles.

Sometimes it's little things that end up deciding the outcome of a battle, even luck can play an important role, this is very important to remember when playing Warhammer, there's always a second option….if you make the right army from the start.

If you have anything that should be on this page email me.

"The Forced Flank."

In a battle try using one regiment to move forward while the others stay behind. With the one regiment you move ahead try to split up your opponents frontline, this is done most easily by moving the regiment along one of the battlefields edges.

If you know your opponent quite well you probaly know a little about which units he might bring, try to construct your regiment after that (he probaly wont attack a unit of 40 Dragon Ogres with 5 Nightgoblins, if you know what I mean), try to build a unit that's capable of defending itself and yet begs to be destroyed.

As you move the first unit froward you will quickly see which unit(s) the opponent choose to send toward your regiment, now prepare the second and third strong regiment to move in and intersept with the unit(s) the opponent has send towards your first unit. If the opponent send one unit you will hit him in the flank with either the first unit as he turns to face the two new units, or in the flank or rear by the second regiment as he continues towards your first unit.

Now what's the third unit for?….well if you only use the first and second unit you will probaly soon be flank- or rearattacked by one of the opponents units, I usually keep this third unit ready next to the first and second fighting units, just waiting there to attack anyone who gets too close.

As soon as an enemy unit approach the first and second unit charge, if possible, with the third unit, and as soon as this happens send forward two more units in the same way as above.

Perhaps this picture makes it a little easier to understand :

The above example should give you a picture of what I think, this mean that you don't have to make 4 regiments to make it work, you could make more or less, as I said it's just an example.

This tactic depend a lot on what further moves your opponent will make, he could choose to attack your flank of archers, this could be more or less countered by h-t-h unit(s) behind the ranks, if the opponent attack you flee with the archers and charge with the h-t-h unit. As you can see in the above pic you will have a strong unit placed on the left flank of the archers, these can also be used to defend the archers in case you don't want to put another regiment behind the archers line.

There's many ways of countering this tactic, your opponents will soon learn, but try to work out a tactic with this one as an "overall", you might actually win with it sometimes!!
