Making Chaos Mounted Marauders

"Rich Waters" <[email protected]>

I really wanted to have some mounted marauders for my chaos army so I just made a whole bunch of conversions. Here is what I did:

1- Buy a Chaos Knight Regiment box. Buy a Necromunda plastic goliath gang box. (Goliaths are big, bare chested, mohawked musclemen)

2- Take the goliath models and chop them all in half below the belt. Chop off some of their heads too, but leave a couple with the mohawked heads. Chop off any knives that some of the goliaths are holding.

3- Cut the knobby part of the backs of the chaos warrior heads. Glue a chaos warrior head on each of the headless goliath bodies.

4- Glue each goliath torso onto a pair of chaos knight legs.

5- Get some sort of rod or metal tubing (I used some brass tubing.). Cut the tubing into 5 one inch pieces. These will make the hafts for the flails. Cut some more tubing into pieces about a half inch long to make some flail heads. Get some twine or fine chain. Glue all of these pieces together to make some flails. (1 flail = 1 flail haft + 1 or more heads connected to the haft with twine or chain)

6- Take the goliath right arms and slice off the guns they are holding. Drill a hole thru the hand with a pin vice or something. Attach a flail.

7- Stick the now completed marauder onto one of the horses you got from the Chaos knights box.

That's it!

If you don't want flails, or you don't want to make the flails as suggested, you can attach chaos warrior arms instead. The chaos warrior arms include a hand weapon and look pretty cool because of the armor.

I don't have access to a scanner or a digital camera right now, so you will just have to imagine them for now. Sorry. They work pretty well for marauders, with only a few problems. One problem is that the Goliath torsos are really muscular, so they look pretty big next to "regular" unmounted marauders. The other thing is that they are riding the barded chaos steeds instead of unarmored horse models. This isn't a big problem for me though, since I just tell my gaming group that the horses are not barded and they don't demand WYSIWYG models on the table.
