Dwarves

Dwarves are great to paint.

  1. Basecoat White
  2. Basecoat weapons and armor Flat Aluminum
  3. Basecoat boots and packs with Centaur Brown
  4. Basecoat cloak and pants with any color you like
  5. Wash all dark colors and metals in Paynes Grey

Use your best judgement on what color to wash cloaks and pants in. I usually paint them in dark colors so I wash with Paynes Grey.

  6. Basecoat beards with a brown (I like to use lighter browns so that they show up)
  7. Drybrush beards with a brown/yellow-brown that is 2 or 3 shades lighter
  8. Basecoat the face with Bronzed Flesh
  9. Wash the face with Chestnut Ink
  10. Highlight the face with a mix of Bronzed Flesh and White
  11. Pick out the eyes and teeth
  12. Paint the sword hilt and decorations Brazen Bronze
  13. Paint heraldry if desired
  14. Add the shield
  15. Base the figure using Woodland Scenics railroad flocking
  16. Seal

A note on slayers. To get my hair color, I basecoat with Centaur Brown, then highlight with a mix of Centaur Brown and Orange. When I reach pure orange, I add a bit of white to get the very last highlights. This method gives me a nice redtop without getting the bright orange that Citadel Slayers end up with.

Artillery

  1. Basecoat all wood surfaces Raw Sienna
  2. Wash wood surfaces with Raw Umber
  3. Basecoat cannon barrels etc Flat Aluminum
  4. Wash barrels with Paynes Grey
  5. Basecoat ropes with Field Drab
  6. Drybrush ropes with Griffon Hide
  7. Paint all metal fittings with brass or gold

Another product you can use for cannon barrels is an art wax named Rub n' Buff. It's like the old Dragon Scale cremes. Buy a mascara applicator sponge and rub it onto the cannon barrel then take a piece of sponge rubber and buff it off.

  8. Seal
