Miscellaneous Tips

  1. Save all of your old miniatures. They will be valuable later when you want to do conversions or look for spare parts. Another thing you can use them for is as test pieces for drybrushing and washing. Try the color combinations on your scrap figures first and that will give you a good idea how it will look on your finished miniature.

  2. Take a small piece of scrap lead about the size of a BB pellet and drop it into your pot of paint. Every time you shake up your pot of paint, the piece of lead will bounce around inside and help mix your paint more consistently.

  3. A great place to find cheap miniatures is at your local convention. Find the bring-and-buy tables and look through all the loose miniatures for something you can use. Almost anything can be useful. I know that I don't like to buy miniatures to cut up for conversions, but finding cheap figures like this can provide a treasure trove of spare parts.

  4. Need to strip some old figures? Get some Pine-Sol and immerse your figures (metal ones only) in there fir 4-7 days. Change the Pine-Sol at least once during that time. After they have soaked, rinse them of under some faucet water and the paint should come right off. Use a toothbrush to clean out the deeper folds.
