Non-Rookie Contracts
I Teams are only allowed to have 12 non-rookie contracts signed at the beginning of
each years draft.
- Any team that has more than the maximum contracts allowed will have a player randomly
dropped from their roster until the team is at or below the maximum.
II The number of each type of contract allowed is as follows:
- 5 Five Year
- 4 Four Year
- 3 Two Year
- If a team has more than any one type of contract allowed then a player signed with the
offending contract type will be released until the team is at or below the number allowed.
III Non-rookie contracts can only be signed when:
1) A player is drafted in the free agent or amateur draft.
- A player is claimed as a free agent. (Unless the player being claimed was released
during the same season by the team making the claim.)
IV Contracts can only be voided if a player retires, has a career ending injury,
or if a team gives the player his/her unconditional release.
- If a player is given his/her unconditional release that player is free to sign with any
other team after he clears waivers except by the team releasing the player.
- Players released cannot resign with the team that released them for the remainder of the
season.
- If the player is released during the off season he cannot resign with his old team until
one full season.
- If the players former team drafts him while under the above conditions the player
will be immediately released.
- A team that releases a contract player will forfeit his/her first round draft choice for
the next free agent and amateur draft.
- If a team holds more than one choice in either draft then the higher choice will be
forfeit.
V Players are released when their non-rookie contracts expire unless they are
franchise players.
Rookie Contracts
I A player under 27 years old is signed to a "Rookie Contract" until
that player achieves three years experience.
- At the end of each season all players without a contract are checked.
- Any player who has 3 or more years of experience and is 27 or older will be released as
a free agent.
- A team holds the option of signing a rookie to a non-rookie contract at anytime even
immediately after their rookie contract expires.
- Rookies can be released without penalty.
Franchise Players
I Each team is allowed to have three franchise players.
- At anytime you may designate any player on your roster to be a franchise player.
- A franchise player may be resigned to a non-rookie contract after their contract expires
without going to the free agent pool.
- A player designated as a franchise player cannot have their franchise status removed
unless they are traded away or not offered a contract allowing them to return to the free
agent pool.
- Franchise players cannot be given their unconditional release.
Trading Contracts
A contract stays with the player when they are traded. This goes for both Rookie
and Non-Rookie contracts.
Waivers
When a non-rookie contract player is released all owners will be notified. All
teams will have 24 hours to make a claim for this player. The team with the worst record
making a claim will be awarded this player. They will have the option of signing this
player to a contract. If no claims are made for this player after 24 hours then the player
will be available to the first claim made for him.
Injured Players
Injured players may not be released.
