Ok, so here's the scoop. There are some new MODs out there that I have been playing a LOT! I know I said this page wouldn't change a whole lot, and I was true to my word about that; but there are certain aspects of these new MODs that I like so much, I thought them noteworthy of my page. So without further prolongning this. . .

Action Quake2 Action Quake is awesome. . .it is not classified as a Total conversion, but it could be. You have totally new weapons (same concept though as original weapons) but the gaming style has completely changed. You can bleed to death, and get damaged in defferent body parts--Leg damage makes you limp and slows you down, a head shot will instantly kill, chest damage and stomach to incremental damage, and well, you know the deal. There is even a new set of skins to choose from. Rambo, John McClean, Mad Max, Commando, and a few other action stars. This is one you need to check out. Also, if you run a server, think about running an Action server so i can play more. . .there are only a few servers that run this MOD now, but i have faith. . .
CHAOS Chaos is just that. . .total chaos. There are like 8 new weapons and 5 grenade types that have been added (homing rockets are a pain in my ass). You have a flashlight, and as long as you can find where it is, a grappling hook too. An overall good mod, it can be slow at times though because of the number of people using the "flummyblaster" (new weapon). Adds a new twist on strategy since now you can also get a jetpack, gravity belt, and a ring that cause MASS, i'm talkin MASS destruction. Nice one to have on hand and play when you feel like punishing someone. There is a new addition that is kinda fun i almost forgot about. . .you can puke on command, and also fake your own death. Perfect for all you dumbass campers out there.
capture
Loki's Minions CTF CTF (Capture The Flag) is the most popular MOD out there right now, hands down. So popular, as a matter of fact, that there are several different versions of it out there. All are basically the same, but some use different commands and stuff; but you can get all that info from their respective pages. I am just going to lay down the pasic premise. There are two teams, One red, One blue. The object is threefold: 1)Kill the enemy 2) Protect your base 3) Invade enemy's base, steal their flag, and bring it back home to your flag. If your flag is missing when you get the enemy flag. . .tut, tut, tut. Should've protected your base better. Now, some of your teammates have to find and kill the enemy flag snatcher and return your flag back home before you can score. There are usually custom maps involved, and there is one curios additon as well. They are called RUNES. Runes provide different powers to the holder until he/she dies. There are typically 5 runes: Regen-Gives health back at a steady rate, some versions even give back armor too. Haste-makes your rate of fire for each weapon double, turns blaster into a deadly weapon. Resist-Acts as a power shield and greatly reduces damage taken from all sources. Strength-Acts like a full time damage enhancer, not as much damage as the quad, but it helps greatly. Vampire-A recently appearing rune that, you guessed it, steals the life from opponents that you damage, and adds it to your health total. If you aim well, this is the best rune to have (especially if you have the BFG!) All other CTF mods below this use the same set of rules, but are nice to have, so if you try to connect to a server that is running a different version, you don't get that annoying error message that tells you it can't find the right map!

Threewave CTF Same as above, but more frequently seen on GAMESPY and other servers. In my opinion, a better CTF MOD.

All other CTF MODs There are WAY too many for me to list and explain, so I will guide you to a page with all CTF MODs. The previous two are the ones I use mainly, but feel free to download as many as you like. They can take up quite a bit of hard drive space though, so be careful. Also, make sure that even need to download anything before you try and download a 12 MEG patch, because you might find it is a SERVER side MOD only. So unless you plan to run your own server, you can already play. Vanilla CTF is a good example. You can play that right now, because only the server needs to have the updates, not the client. **NOTE** Follow the directions closely, or the MODs will not work. Some self-extract, others you need to create a new directory for (usually in the quake2 folder).

JAILBREAK! This is a modification on CTF, played in a two-team setting, but instead of trying to capture an enemy flag, you are just trying to capture all opposing team members. Every time you kill an opposing team member, he/she will go to jail. Here they will sit until all of his other team members are captured -or- if a sly team member can infiltrate the enemy's base and flip the switch, all prisoners will be released. BUT, if all of one team is captured, they will be executed, and each member of the opposing team will get points (like capturing a flag in CTF). Hence the name JAILBREAK!. There are no runes or grappling hook in this MOD, but there are large turret guns that you can occupy and launch massive amounts of firepower upon the enemy. (Unlimited Ammo!) This is a great concept, and the only downside is if you get a selfish team and you get killed right away. . .you may spend a majority of your gametime in jail.

FlagwarsThis is a MOD that you need CTF2 first. It is the same concept as CTF, with a small twist. There are a TON of new weapons, and soon there will character classes that each have a different ability. (Scout, Sniper, Pyro, and Grunt) This could very well be one of the best MODs available, but it is brand spankin new too. So finding a server to actually RUN the game is the problem. You can find more info if you go to the link above. . .

Rocket Arena Now maybe its just because I'm bitter at getting my ass handed to me on a plate yesterday, but I think this is one of the most pain in the ass MODs to install, PLUS its boring. Two people duke it out in an arena, while the others watch. Well, ok. Except for the people watching part, and specialized maps (which I am still not used to), you can do this in a regular Deathmatch. If you want to play on Gamespy, you have to type in a specialized command line. It could use some work in my opinion, like maybe letting the people in the holding pen kick each other's ass to battle for place in line, that way there is no down time for anyone. But since I am not a developer, and know nothing about Q2 source code, I will leave that one to the experts.
