Partner has opened with 2 spades. You have a really nice hand. You want to know more about partner's hand. How do you get him to bid again?? One way is to play Raise Only Non Forcing or RONF. This bid means exactly that. If partner opens a Weak Two, the ONLY bid that partner can pass is a raise of his suit. See?? Raise ONLY non forcing. If you bid anything at all other than a raise, partner must bid. So make sure you have the values to force partner.
RONF is used by responding partner over his partner's Weak Two Opening Bid to solicit information. Therefore, the bid of any suit except the raise of the opening suit is FORCING at least one round. When the Weak Two bidder hears partner's new suit, he must respond showing a feature (possible entry) to his hand outside of his long suit. If he does not have any cards of any value outside his suit, he must rebid his six-card suit. Depending on partnership agreement, the raise of partner's opening weak suit may be preemptive or invitational.
