Bestiary, Animals and Monsters
Fen Hound
These massive dogs that thrive in extreme conditions, in "soft" environments the dogs rapidly sicken and die. Physically the dogs are 4 feet high at the shoulders and weigh upwards of 200 pounds. They are excellent swimmers and are resistant to most poisons and diseases. The dog's keen senses make them superb trackers and guards (Tracking 18, Alertness 18). Halflings often train the dogs as guards and mounts. It is not uncommon for a full-grown Fen Dog to drive off an adult alligator. The people of the Frozen Steppes also train a slightly different breed of this dog, the only difference being a thicker fur coat.
Deepwyrm
Subterranean snake-like monster with very sharp tusks and striking tongue.
Stirge(Strix)
Subterranean birds with piercing beaks that feed on blood.
Grey Horse
These semi-mystical of legend serve only individuals of noble character dedicated to the greater good. These proud and noble animals have the swiftness of the fastest racers and the power of the strongest destiers. A grey horse lives longer than a normal horse and over time will develop a close bond with its chosen rider. A rider who mistreats a grey horse will soon find himself walking.
The speed and endurance of a grey horse is legendary. They are able to travel twice as far as normal horses in the same amount of time. This pace can be sustained for two days before the horse will begin to tire. Travel at this speed is much harder on the rider than on the horse. Normal rates of movement may be sustained almost indefinitely.
A grey horse prefers to be outfitted in only the best of tack, if they must wear it at all, and will make this known to their riders. Any offensive tack will disappear from its storage place and be found ruined somewhere else. Benevolent spirits attracted to the grey horses aid them in tasks that would require more dexterity than hooves allow. The correct name for the grey horse is "Greyan", but this is known only to a few historians and their riders.
