Don't Forget!!

Consulting a physician before engaging in a new exercise regime or diet is very important!

According to Dr. Scott Carroll, formerly a collegiate athlete and presently a physician in Columbia, South Carolina, there are many commonly asked questions about health and fitness. Here, Dr. Carroll answers some key inquiries:
What can I do to lose weight? There is no quick fix. Following a healthy diet is crucial, but the key to losing weight is activity.
Am I too old to exercise? There is no age limit for engaging in physical fitness, but there are mental limits!! No matter how young or old, people need to approach exercise as a part of an overall healthy lifestyle, incorporating activities into daily routines. For example, walking the dog before breakfast or strolling grandchildren during a visit are great ways to pump up your heart and burn fat!! Just make sure you get an approval from a doctor for your chosen activity, then get excited and get moving!
What foods should I avoid, and which should I eat for optimal nutrition? It's smart to avoid very strict diets, because they usually lead to overindulgence and the feeling of deprivation. Instead, try moderating your diet. Eat lower fat, lower calorie meals during the week, and have some "cheat food" on weekends. If you are active and eat nutritously most of the time, having a slice of cake or a homeade burger won't kill your efforts!! Foods loaded with nutrients are broccoli, sweet potatoes, fruits, white meats, lean meats, and even mushrooms! Drinking lots of water is very important, too! Foods to avoid are cotton candy, donuts, and fried foods!
