Alaskan Malamute | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Alaskan Malamute Breed in Brief One of the oldest Arctic sled dogs, the Alaskan Malamute has strength that is second to none. The outer coat is thick and coarse, with thick fur around the neck; the dense undercoat is woolly. Overall the coat is moderately short to medium in length. The usual colors range from light gray through intermediate shadings to black, sable, and shadings of sable to red, with face markings. The only solid color is all white. These athletic dogs love the outdoors, but can also thrive as house pets. In either case, they require attention and companionship. The Alaskan Malamute is patient with children, but should always be supervised during play. With proper training, he will be a devoted, trustworthy companion. Although the size of this friendly, affectionate dog may be enough to discourage intruders, he is not known to be suitable for guard work. Height at shoulder: 23-25". Weight: 75-85 lbs. AKC group: Working Dogs. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
