American Foxhound | |||||||||||||||||||||||
American Foxhound Breed in Brief American Foxhounds date back to the 1700s in Virginia and Maryland, where they were developed based on the English Foxhound and used to track game. One difference between the two breeds is that the American Foxhound may be less substantial in build, though not necessarily shorter, than his English cousin. The American Foxhound's short, glossy coat is easy to keep clean. It can be of any color, but is generally seen in combinations of black, tan and white. This breed needs exercise. He is happiest with owners who live in rural areas or on large farms. Foxhounds enjoy the company of other dogs and can become bored if kept alone. Height at shoulder: 21-25". Weight: 65-70 lbs. AKC group: Hounds. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
