Basset Hound

Basset Hound

Breed in Brief

The Basset Hound is an old breed.
Originally of French lineage, it flourished for centuries in Europe, primarily in France and Belgium, where it used its nose for trailing rabbits, deer and other game through dense cover.
The hard, smooth coat, which does not require extensive grooming, comes in a variety of colors and markings.
While the Basset Hound's gait is deliberate, it is in no sense clumsy, and is a dog of great intelligence.
A natural hunter, it should never be allowed to roam without supervision.
This breed is capable of great endurance in the field and is extreme in its devotion.
As these dogs traditionally hunted in packs, they have a comradely attitude toward other canines.
The Basset Hound is laid-back, sociable and affectionate--a great dog for children and adults of all ages.

Height at shoulder: 14".
