Bearded Collie | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Bearded Collie Breed in Brief Hardy, active herding dogs, Bearded Collies have been valued for centuries as sheepherders, drovers (livestock drivers) and devoted family companions. One of Britain's oldest breeds, the Beardie is strong and agile, and has a stable, self-confident disposition. This dog's coat is long and lies flat to the body. It is harsh to the touch and gives a somewhat shaggy appearance, but does not appear woolly or curly. Puppies are born either black, blue, brown or fawn in color, with or without white coat markings. The coloring may lighten as the puppy grows older. Beardies need regular grooming to keep their coats free of mats, and regular daily exercise. These stable, outgoing dogs are accepting of other animals and people. They love to have something to watch over, and may start herding whatever they consider to be their flock. Above all, the Bearded Collie is a family dog who loves children. Height at shoulder: 20-22". Weight: about 50 lbs. AKC group: Herding Dogs. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
