Bichon

Bichon

Breed in Brief

This small, white powder puff with a merry temperament was bred in western Europe to be petted and loved, yet is a tough and healthy animal.
Its name means "curly lap dog" in French.
A favorite of royalty, during the French Revolution the Bichon Frise became a street dog, and only the strongest survived.
The dense, curly coat has both soft and coarse hairs, which give it the feel of plush or velvet.
When bathed and brushed, the coat stands off the body.
To keep it healthy, the owner must brush it frequently, and the dog should be taken to a professional groomer on a monthly basis.
The Bichon Frise is gentle in manner, sensitive, playful and affectionate.
A cheerful attitude is the hallmark of the breed.

Height at shoulder: 9-12".

Weight: 10-15 lbs.

AKC group: Non-Sporting Dogs.
