Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Breed in Brief

This breed, commonly called the Cavalier, is perhaps the only one born of dissatisfaction.
Early in the twentieth century, a group of dog fanciers began to breed English Toy Spaniels to take on the characteristics that had distinguished them in earlier days--a full muzzle, a flat skull and larger size.
The moderately long, silky coat is usually straight, sometimes with a slight wave.
It comes in four colors: Blenheim, characterized by rich chestnut markings on a clear white ground; tri-color, jet black markings on a clear white ground, with rich tan on the head and tail; ruby, a uniform rich red; and black and tan, jet black with bright tan markings.
Active, graceful and gentle, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are friendly, without nervousness or shyness.

Height at shoulder: 12-13".

Weight: 13-18 lbs.

AKC group: Toy Dogs.
