Chinese Crested

Chinese Crested

Breed in Brief

This breed is believed to have evolved from African hairless dogs that were reduced in size by Chinese breeders.
An elegant and graceful dog, the Chinese Crested comes in two distinct varieties: the hairless and the powder puff.
The hairless variety is just that, but it does grow soft, silky hair on certain areas of the body: the head (the hair here is known as a crest), the tail (plume) and the feet below the "ankles" (socks).
It is important to use lotion on the hairless variety's skin to keep it from becoming dry.
Sunscreen lotion should also be used when the dog is outdoors.
The powder-puff variety is completely covered with a soft coat that is moderately dense.
Minimal grooming will keep this breed looking clean and healthy.
Chinese Cresteds can come in any color or combination of colors.
They are happy, alert, loyal and affectionate dogs who make wonderful, playful and entertaining companions.
