Faeries | |||||||||||||||||||||||
FAERIES The word Faery comes from the words fatua and fata which in Latin mean fortune-teller and Goddess of Fate. The faery is found in all lands and countries though they have various names according to the country or region they are in. The Little People are said to be the dispossessed early tribes of the British Isle who faded into uninhabited places growing smaller and smaller as they were forgotten. They are also said to be elementals or nature spirits. Faeries are called by many names some of which are the following: elves, pixies, sprites, gnomes, nymphs, merfolk, trolls, leprechauns, wee folk, goblins, and hobgoblins. By what name they are called depends on what tradition you believe in. Faeries are still alive and well even in this modern world of today. They are as much a part of our lives as they were to our ancestors hundreds of years ago. Faery traditions stretch back a long way and cover many different faery forms and traditons. It is important to try to understand the major different types that you may encounter and their role in the scheme of things. We need to understand how we can all work with them to help heal and restore our precious planet. Faeries are far different from say Brownies and Elves. They all have their purpose in the scheme of things. One such purpose is to help sustain us all on this precious earth and to help us to realize that we are all part of this earth and the vast universe around us. When encountering faeries and nature spirits every encounter will be different and unique. The nature, power and beauty of their realms will never fail to surprise and delight you. To see water undines, air Dragons, or to meet Brownies or Elves is delightful and different but this is the world of the faery. The earth, air, water, trees and bushes, all this and more is the realm of the faery. There is also an enchanted place where faeries live in an organized community called Faeryland or Elfland. This may be thought of as an alternative or parallel universe. A place where time stands still and there is no sickness or death. This faery kingdom ruled by faery kings and queens is usually on a hilltop but invisible. It can also be composed of magnificent underground cities. Any human who enters this realm once the door behind them closes cannot leave. Those few who do manage to leave will find that years have passed on earth while for them in the faery realm it was only minutes. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
