Field Spaniel

Finnish Spitz

Breed in Brief

The national dog of Finland, this breed has long been prized for its handsome, fox-like appearance, lively personality and loyal disposition.
This is one of several types of hunting dogs developed centuries ago in the harsh climates of northern Europe.
The Finnish Spitz was used particularly as a bark pointer, leading its master to treed game with its distinctive bark and pointing to game with its head and muzzle.
The golden-red coat ranges from pale honey to deep auburn.
The Finnish Spitz is active, friendly and eager to please.
Except in his native land, where he is still used as a hunting dog, he is primarily a house dog and faithful companion.
Brave but cautious, this breed has a particular fondness for children.
