Giant Schnauzer

Giant Schnauzer

Breed in Brief

Bred in the kingdoms of Wurttemberg and Bavaria to herd cattle, this is an alert, vigorous, versatile and intelligent dog.
The Giant Schnauzer closely resembles the Standard Schnauzer and the Miniature Schnauzer, but the three are separate and distinct breeds.
While he is the largest of the schnauzers, the Giant Schnauzer is not really a giant dog.
This breed has a hard, wiry, very dense coat that is either solid black or pepper-and-salt in color.
The coat requires regular weekly care, and professional grooming at least twice a year.
This dog is happiest with his family.
However, he may be aggressive with strange children or strange pets.
Loyal to their owners and eager to defend family and property, Giant Schnauzers should receive obedience training at an early age.

Height at shoulder: 23 1/2-27 1/2".

Weight: 60-85 lbs.

AKC group: Working Dogs.
