Presidential Election of 2000

The Presidential election of 2000.  As we all know, George W. Bush won the election after a heated battle in Florida and in the courts.  But should it really have been in the courts? Should there have been the recounts? and if we didn't use the recounted data, why did we recount in the first place?
I find all of these things very interesting questions.  The election was one of the longest we ever had.  I was rather embarrased of the election lasting that long.  The results should have been counted once, not twice.  I thought that they would have been more decisive in the court decisions and get it over with instead of dragging it out.
