Santiago X's Cave of Wonders Game Review

'Hey, I had a lot of fun playing this game.' Santiago X

This game in not for the weak, in body or mind; the unassuming, meek, mild, or out right chicken. What I will say, is that if you have patience, and appreciate a good challenge, then this is the game for you! Activision went out thier way to display their cunning and cruelty.

When I first got the game I spent a weekend on the couch, with a specially selected CD for the occasion and this game. After careful consumptions of the right amount of alcohol I, with no great trepidation undertook the incredibly hard task of learning the mechanics of the game. Although T:SA can appear intimidating with its large repotoire of complex moves, after a few minutes of game play, I realized that this was a game that would take me several months to master. The moves in and of themselves at first feel clunky and slow but this is due to human error and not game inefficiancy. I would like to stress that this game will take all but the most avid game player some time to master. I have found that the response time in the game is very good, but due to the sheer variety of interaction in the game with your enviroment, the novice can quickly become confused. I personally went out and bought the play guide, as it gave me more detail and information of how to control the game play, as well as a variety of stragtegies and cheats. So far, I only know of six cheats have been found for T:SA. (If anyone knows different, please email me and let me know.)

The game graphics are crisp, although a little blocky on the characters. The intro however is superb, both in animation and musical score.

I found the score a bit repetative, except for the intro and the 'manji cult' level. However, all the score fits the game well and provides a pleasant background that adds to your suspension of disbelief.

I you work hard and memorize each level you can move freely among each one. By this I mean to say that you wont be stuck in heart pounding suspense as to whether you will be seen or caught. I can recommend to the serious game player that T:SA is well worth the money you pay. I do not recommend this for children under the age of 16 due to the violent content. So sharpen your skill and focus hard and you too may become a ninja warrior.......if only for a little while.
