SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

at the North Penn Hernia Institute
Surgical Repair of Inguinal, Femoral, Umbilical and Most Incisional Hernias can be SAFELY and EFFECTIVELY performed as a "Same Day", Ambulatory Procedure. With the patient awake, yet sedated and comfortably free of pain, the risks of General Anesthesia are avoided. Our patients are walking shortly after surgery, and are
Discharged Home within about 1-2 hours.
We utilize a Mini-Incison "Open" Technique. Under most circumstances, our incisions are very small (about 2 inches or less), located directly over the hernia.
For the most common INGUINAL HERNIA, we utilize a "Tension Free" repair by inserting Mesh to close and repair the hernia defect. This is associated with the Lowest Risk of Recurrence, when compared to other techniques, including the "Canadian" operation. In addition, and equally important, there is Minimal Post Operative Discomfort, Few Restrictions on Activity and you
RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITY IN DAYS!
