What is Raya?
'Raya' here is Malay for
'celebrate'. 'Hari Raya' is literally 'Celebration Day'. In
Malaysia, it is combined with 'Aidil Fitri', where Muslims
celebrate the overcoming of their willpower at the end of
Ramadhan. We celebrate with new clothes, lots of food (ketupat
among it - rice in banana/palas leave-wrappers, eaten with beef rendang
- a kind of curry) and money or gifts for the children and
the poor/less fortunate.
And for more Han fun, join us at
I'd Rather Kiss A Wookiee. We love to think with our stomachs
there! (sometimes I wonder if Chewie is a Malaysian...)
