Gala
January 2002 Issue
George Clooney an Co. Hollywood´s superstars will revive in Oceans Eleven the legendary Rat Pack. One time to be cool like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.! In the 60´s, as Bourbon was still flowing in masses, they belonged to the hardest. They had been the swining Rat Pack, from that America´s mother warned they daughters in vain. Thanks of Steven Soderberg´s movie Oceans Eleven with 6 of the biggest Hollywood stars the legend is living further. Although Clooney & Co. in the remake don´t even try to copy the cool Rat Pack. But you can always have them for easy talking.
Gala: How do you feel in direct comparism to Sinatra and the boys?
George Clooney: I love them. I have all their tapes from Chicago and Las Vegas. They are brilliant and the easiest types which I have ever seen. We will never be that cool. This is the reason I don´t wanted first to
be part in Ocean´s Eleven. During shooting I also did not had this moments: " Oh, this is now like Frankie, Dean or Sammy". The movie is standing for itsself.
Gala: How did you prepare?
George Clooney: Through long years of drinking and roving around I was perfect trained for this role. This is professional. One is calling this method acting.
Mat Damon: Six months before begin of shooting said George that we should start with the preparations of the movie. So we went to Las Vegas.
Gala: In the movie you are planning to rob the Bellagio Casino. Have you been in this hotel?
Julia Roberts: We lived there.
Don Cheadle: I spent the whole time in my car
Brad Pitt: You should looking for another agent.
Gala: What are the advantages and disadvantages of filming in Las Vegas?
Matt Damon: Well, was disavantages (laughing)? But seriously: In my opinion it is up to the people you are
together, how many fun you have. Und that guys here are really great.
Gala: Did you played a lot?
Andy Garcia: I have never been on a playing table. Although I love Black Jack from time to time. I think after some time I did imagine that I am not in a movie, but also in reality the owner of the Bellagio.
George Clooney: I have lost. But not very much. I am not a good gambler.
Matt Damon: One time I have lost 25 times. I have counted. On the end it was like a math class. I thought: Purely counted I have to win one time, before I am leaving the table.
Gala: Isn´t it a big difference for a super star to be suddenly not the main figure, but part of an ensemble?
Matt Damon: No not at all. On the end I would like to watch one time on the list of the movies in that I was in and I could be a little bid proud of.
Andy Garcia: We wanted working together with Jerry Weintraub.
George Clooney: ...before he is dying.....
Gala: Mrs. Roberts, was is stressful to be the only woman in this cast?
Julia Roberts: It was great! But I have exepected that I will finally get this Princess feeling. This I was wishing since I had been in High School - and George did manage that I will keep this feeling.
Gala: You are all belong to the nicest actors in the show business. Isn´t difficult to be friendly and charming when you become more popular?
George Clooney: F**k off, you idiot.......!
**Litte grey article**
The Rat Pack had always great times. The new too. George Clooney and director Steven Soderberg did sent Julia Roberts the script with a 20 Dollar note: " We have learned that you are taking 20 per each movie". Right. But in reality it´s 20 Million.... In Hotel Bellagio George Clooney played the clown. He is feared for his jokes on the set. After Brad Pitt once did missed his keys, he was searching in his hotel room after hidden cameras. Clooney favorite fun:
Waterbombs over the door. Only Julia Roberts stroke back: She did strech transparent foil over Clooney´s toilet. Unfortunately he noticed it.... Steven Soderberg und George Clooney wanted to advertise for Matt Damon in Variety. Cause he did tell them that he wanted to be Sexiest Man Alive. Clooney called with the paper, but they wanted to be serious. "With such an advertisement you can ruin the image of Mat". By the way the title did get Pierce Brosnan.
