Saraswati
The divine consort of Lord Brahma whose name means the 'essence of self'. This goddess is worshipped by those who want to obtain knowledge such as teachers, students, scholars and scientists. Saraswati is often associated with and early Indus valley goddess, Vac, the goddess of speech and wisdom.
She is always shown with four arms which represent human ego, mind, alertness and intellect. In each hand, Saraswati holds an object symbolizing different things. In one a book (signifies that knowledge must be acquired through love and kindness.), in another a rosary (symbolizes meditation, concentration, and contemplation which one closer to god. It also means that egos melts away when knowledge is acquired by love and devotion.) She also wears a white Sari and rides a white goose to symbolize purity, and she is sometimes shown sitting on a white lotus which means supreme knowledge.
In each hand she holds an object- a book, which signifies that knowledge must be acquired with love and kindness; a rosary, which symbolizes meditation, concentration, and contemplation which help to union with Brahma, it also signifies that egos melts away when knowledge is acquired by love and devotion, it makes one free; the musical instrument held in the two front hands which symbolize mind and intellect, one should tune his mind and intellect to live in perfect harmony.
With two of her hands, she plays the music of love and life on her violin, a veena.
There are two swans by her side, one symbolizes discrimination between right and wrong there is a peacock that symbolizes unpredictable behavior she rides the swan not the peacock which shows one should overcome fear, indecision, and fickleness to acquire the knowledge.
