Penguin Facts
- The average height of the Emperor Penguin is 115 cm (3 feet 9 1/4 inches) and it usually weighs
between 28 and 30 kg (62-66 pounds).
- The King Penguin is somewhat smaller than the Emperor, standing 95 cm tall (3 feet 1 1/2 inches)
and weighing only 15 kg (33 pounds). Kings are much trimmer than Emperors and are also distinguished
from them by their longer bills and more generous orange coloring on their necks.
- Most penguins feed on a combination of fish, squid, and krill.
- Rockhopper penguins spread their wings to rid themselves of excess body heat on warmer days.
- Fiordland penguins actually breed in rainforests of New Zealand, and can nest in caves or in
dense vegetation!
