Penguins at the John G. Shedd Aquarium (Chicago, IL)

The Shedd Aquarium has three penguins species as parts of their permanent "collection" - Rockhoppers, Gentoos, and Magellanics. Unfortunately, we were unable to get good pictures of the Rockhoppers due to their feisty "anti-camera" attitudes. The Magellanics kept to themselves in the back of the display, so our pictures of them were not that stellar either. However, the Gentoos were so amiable and camera-happy. They really seemed to love people and were all fighting amongst themselves to be the centers of attention. Gentoos are my favorite penguins. They are so sweet and so cute, and have the best little dispositions!

This is a picture of Gentoo Penguins in the foreground with Magellanic Penguins in the background, keeping to themselves. The Gentoos were really friendly penguins!

Here are more Gentoos! Boy, do they love attention! They are also quite incredible swimmers.

Here are some Magellanic penguins. The photo quality is not that great because such a zoom had to be conducted. These were shy penguins. I think one was nesting.

That does it for my penguin photos. Hopefully I will be able to get some good pictures of the penguins at Riverbanks Zoo (Columbia, SC) when the new penguin exhibit opens in 2001.
