Simon Lee (alias Levi) was born into the grey
world of fifties London. He distinguished himself by running
away on the first day at school. He endured the rigours of
the British public school system at an establishment in the
far north of Scotland, developing a taste for drama and
literature en route.
After a brief spell in swinging London, Levi read English
at Oxford, explored psychodelia, Morocco, much of Europe,
Tibetan Buddhism, conceptual poetry and art, produced an
experimental literary magazine and then headed off for a
commune in West Germany.
There followed a lengthy period back in London, teaching,
playing music until he flew out to the New World in 1987,
initially to teach. Having discovered the joys of Trinidad
he decided to remain and now makes his home below its
Northern Range.
Levi worked for four years at the Trinidad Guardian as
feature writer, sub editor, janitorial assistant before
going freelance in 1996. He travels extensively throughout
the Caribbean, meeting the people and the cultures, and
writing about everything from rainforests to rumshops.
When there's time he acts (last in the Caribbean premiere
of Derek Walcott's The Odyssey) and has aspirations of
owning a hammock. He's about to start work on a feature film
screenplay based in Trinidad of the forties and expects to
take Hollywood and the Cannes Film Festival by storm!
