Chapter Eleven of the Choirgirl HOTeL…
Written by Kyribelle
On the populated side of the Island...
It was getting dark as Danna and Kyribelle were led to the town by the little girls. Caroline took them to her house to talk with her mother about a place to stay for the night. As they walk in the door Caroline calls out,
"Hey Mommy, guess what Lehcar and I found on our walk?" And without waiting for a reply continues, "We found more of those people! Only this time they were in the forest, not the beach, and...."
What does she mean by that...'more of those people'...Kyribelle and Danna thought to themselves, but they didn't have to wait long for an explanation...
"Well you girls didn't just leave them there did you? They're not hurt are they?" Caroline's mother calls from down the hall. As she rounds the corner she stops short when she gets a look at the people standing by her door.
"Oh my god! Didn't I just leave you at the hospital? Well, no that couldn't have been you...you look fine." she said staring at Kyribelle. Then taking a look at Danna she asks them, "are you from that plane crash as well?"
"Yes, we were in a plane crash, we just made it to the other side of your island this afternoon, and we were trying to find a place to sleep for the night when we ran into these two kids. We didn't realize there were people on the other side of the forest. Did you find the rest of our party or something? I thought they stayed back on the other side, we were planning on trying to find them tomorrow." Kyribelle explained.
"How many of you are there anyhow?" The mother asked.
"Well, I think there were ten survivors, but we lost two...uh, to sharks I think, later on." Kyribelle answered. "Why, did you find the others? Can't you tell us, what's with all these questions anyhow?" (She was getting kind of frustrated, this lady seemed to know something that was important to them, but she wouldn't just get out with it!)
"No, we only found two that washed up on shore below town earlier this afternoon, they were both injured and unconscious, and barely alive. I just left them at the little hospital where I work as a nurse and the woman had just woken up...she told us she had been in a plane crash. Would you like to go see them?"
"Oh, we can go see them in the morning... I'm too tired to move another inch!" Dana said lazily.
"What are you talking about? OF COURSE we want to go see them... what if they're my sister and Pete?" Kyribelle exclaimed when she got past her moment of shock. "Or at least I want to go, if this THING here wants to do nothing more than sleep, let him stay."
"Ok, Caroline, you and Lehcar take care of Mr... uh, what's your name sir?"
"Danna Poulvelli"
"Well, Mr. Poulvelli here...get him something to eat and make him up a place to sleep. All right girls? You be good until I get back, I'm just going to take this young lady to the hospital."
(Now we are all hoping that leaving these two young girls with the ex porn star was safe... for either the girls or for him!)
At the hospital...
As the two women entered the hospital one of the staff walked up to the nurse and told her that one of the patients that they found on the beach was moved... to the morgue. He explained that just about as soon as she left the guy's lungs quit again, and so did his heart... but this time they couldn't revive him. He thought that the lungs had just been too badly damaged by the seawater.
"Well, we'd better take you down there to see if you can identify him miss, then we'll take you to see the other lady." The nurse said.
So Kyribelle followed the nurse and the orderly to the morgue. When they got there they showed her to the man's body she looked and then shook her head yes.
"Yeah, this guy was with us in the plane crash. His name is Pete, but I don't know his last name, he was a bellboy at the Choirgirl Hotel in New York City. That's all I know about him. Some of the others might know more. They're still camping out on the other side of the island though; we'll have to go get them in the morning. The other patient must be my sister, can you take me to her now?"
So the nurse turned and led her down the hall, while the orderly covered Pete. Kyribelle couldn't help but be relieved that she had not directly killed Pete after all, she had never thought she could really strangle another person....
When they got to the room they found Katiribelle sleeping. Kyribelle was dying to talk to her...but she wanted to let her sister sleep so she turned to the nurse to fill in some of the details...
"We saw sharks in the water just before she disappeared, we thought that she was dead. Did they get her?" She asked.
"Well she did sustain shark bites to legs and torso, but we sewed her up, and we think that she'll recover. They also broke a couple of her ribs and crushed her left ankle pretty good. The other problem is that she swallowed a lot of sea water, so we had to pump her stomach, but her lungs were in much better shape than the other guy's for some reason."
"How could she have got here if she was that badly injured, she couldn't have swam could she? I would have though that the sharks would have finished her off, she must have been really lucky..." Kyribelle wondered aloud as she sat down by her sister and took her hand gently.
"Well, for one thing, sharks don't usually like the taste of people, so with a bit of persuasion, let's say, they can be made to leave sometimes. And no, she didn't swim on her own, and neither did that other guy as far as we can tell.
"When she woke up she told us she remembered a plane crash, a night on a raft, and somehow being in the water with a bunch of sharks. She also said she thought she had a dream about swimming with dolphins, so that gives us a good clue.
"You see, dolphins have been known to attack a shark in order to save on of there own, and I suppose on occasion, people as well. At least, there have been many cases of dolphins rescuing shipwrecked or drowning people. So we think that you must have been followed by a pod of dolphins when you were on your raft, and when the shark attacked, they drove the shark away and dragged those two to shore. I'm surprised that you didn't see them, or that they didn't bring the people to the raft instead of to shore.
"We also thought it rather strange that that Pete guy had no bites taken out of him, but that he had marks around his neck instead. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?" The nurse finished.
When she got no response she decided to let it rest for now. This young lady had obviously been through a lot in the past few days and she knew that she could probably get the location of the others from Mr. Poulvelli.
Tomorrow would be soon enough for more questions. Instead she just made up a cot next to the bed and a glass of water for the Kyribelle, reported the patient's current status to the doctor on duty, and went home for the night. Kyribelle gradually noticed that there was a cot on the other side of the bed for her, so she got up and lay down on it, taking up her sister's other hand before she fell into an exhausted sleep.
Meanwhile on the deserted side of the island...
The bonfire had died down to a few coals. Jenn and Jamie were sleeping near it. Fox and Adrienne were a little farther away from the faint circle of light, Adrienne asleep in Fox's arms while he gazed up at the stars wondering what unexpected events the next day would bring. Karol and Greg were off near the edge of the forest somewhere...no one had seen them for quite a while.
None of them had any idea where Danna and Kyribelle had run off to, or that the bodies...battered and dead...of Pete and Katiribelle had been found and tended to on the opposite side of the island, and where there was civilization and most importantly telephones!
Just before Fox drifted off to sleep he noticed clouds beginning to darken the sky, and hoped that there would be no rain that night...
