A Message from Wesa Usdi

As you look around today, it doesn't take long to notice that the world is in a sorry, degenerate state. I look at my innocent little daughter and wonder what life will be like for her when she is my age. Will there be any food or clean water left? With the air becoming more and more unbreathable, will lung cancer be the accepted norm? Will there be a park for her to take her children to? When she tells her children and grandchildren tales of the wolf, will she have to show them a picture in a history book to convince them that wolves once really did exist? I am so sad for her...
So how did we reach this state? The answer is quite plain: human greed and laziness. So what if that park is a haven for the neighborhood children? It would be worth more as a shopping center. We need these trees to build homes, but it would cost money to plant new ones; the woodland creatures will just have to find somewhere else to live. Sure I could recycle, but I'd have to find one of those orange bags I stuffed under the sink, and I don't feel like spending the time; besides, what will one little aluminum can hurt?
Perhaps a more appropriate question would be, 'Who will it hurt?'. Our children, and our children's children. We did not inherit this earth from our ancestors, we are borrowing it from our children. If you were to let someone live in your house while you were away, how would you feel if you returned to find it in ruins? How will our children feel when we return their home to them unlivable?
So what can we do? We can let our consciences speak once in a while. Recycling programs are available almost everywhere in the United States. Reforestation is a very valid option. Don't be wasteful. If it needs to be thrown away, we all know that the rivers and the roadsides are not proper places to dispose of it. There are many, many national and worldwide conservation programs, from water conservation to wildlife conservation to energy conservation. Take advantage of these programs and ensure a living planet for your children. They will love you for it.
