The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a repair program for 1.2 million Happy Camper, Happy Cabana, and Kiddie Camper portable play yards, made by the Evenflo Company.
The top rails of the play yards may collapse if the plastic hinges that hold them in place aren't fully rotated. Also, the hinges may break if someone leans on them. A child may get his head caught in the "V" that is formed by the folded rails, and be strangled.
The CPSC has received reports of three deaths and 107 injuries caused by the play yards.
If you own one of these products, call Evenflo at 1-800-447-9178 to receive a free repair kit, consisting of two plastic hinge covers. If the hinges on the play yard ever crack or brake, stop using the product immediately and call Evenflo. You will receive a free replacement play yard.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling about 133,000 playards, or playpens, from Graco Children's Products. The mesh on the playpen may unravel at the seams, causing a child to choke or become entangled.
If you own a Graco playpen with manufacturing date 11/13/95 through 9/12/96 (look for it under the floor pad), call Graco at 1-800-423-9078. You'll be sent a nontoxic solution that will bind the mesh to the seams. If the mesh has already unraveled, stop using the playpen and contact Graco.
