The mountain
how high
how steep
how deadly
that mountain appeared to be
'We can do it together'
you stated
taking hold of my hand
with that caring look in your eyes.
All my life I was afraid
of climbing that mountain
afraid of the consequences
that came with the climb
You showed me every possible path
told me you knew them all
told me to trust you
foolishly I did
We started the climb
you held onto me
cared for me
during that major ascent
When we reached the top
I was filled with joy
-maybe love
another foolish mistake
I turned to you
you were gone
leaving me alone
on top of the mountain I couldn't
have faced without you
