I Shall
(The Oath The Society of Man)
I shall keep my head, my wits, and my council,
when those about me would blame me when they can not do the same.
I shall keep my self trust when all men doubt me,
yet make allowances for their self doubting.
I shall learn to wait.. and never tire of this waiting,
or when lied about, in turn not deal in lies,
or being hated I shall not give way to hating
I shall keep my dreams but not let my dreams keep me.
I shall think, then work to turn those thought to deeds.
I shall recognize the false faces of triumph and disaster and treat each with the same disdain.
I shall stand with the truth even when the truth is twisted by knaves to trap the foolish.
When all I have given my life for is broken, I shall begin again to rebuild,
even if all I have is worn out tools, and should I heap all my winnings to risk on one turn of fate,
and should, I loose I shall begin again at the beginning and never breath a word about my losses.
I shall force my heart, my nerve, my sinew to serve me, even when they should have gone,
and so hold on when there is nothing left in me, except the will which says to me "HOLD ON".
I shall walk among mobs, and hold to my virtues, walk among kings and hold my common touch.
For neither foe nor loving friend can hurt me, for all count with me, but alas, none too much.
I shall fill each unforgiving minute with sixty seconds of distances run.
For all the earth and all the worth that's in it, is mine.
For I am the KEYSTONE of the "SOCIETY OF MAN"
