My
Home
This
is a little information on where I live.
Truro
on a whole is a relatively safe environment for seniors and children alike.
We have a plenty of recreational facilities for people of all ages.
Known
as the "Hub of Nova Scotia," Truro has an approximate population of 12,000
people, and has been voted as one of the top 10 places in Canada to live.
Truro,
once thought iof as a retirement community, is steadily growing.
It is fastly becoming more than that.
Truro,
has many natrual sites within its borders. The Tital Bore, located
in Lower Truro, boasts the hights tides in the world. These tides
can be seen rushing in at approximately 1 foot an hour.
Beautiful
Victoria Park (a 1,000-acre forest) located in the heart of town, with
its picturesque waterfalls, scenic woodlands, a playground, public swimming
pool, tennis courts and picnic areas, make this a welcome spot for young
and old alike.
While
walking down town, one can see murals on various buildings depicting scenes
of Truro in days gone by.
Truro
is also a place of many businss firsts. These include: the
first oatmeal in Nova Scotia was manufactured in 1820; the first hats in
Canada were made in 1866; the first knitted rib underwear in the world
were made in 1877; the first condensed milk in Canada was manufactured
in 1878; the first railway employees union was formed in 1881 and in 1888,
Truro became the end point of the first long distance telephone circuit
in Nova Scotia as well as the first community in the province to use electric
lights in private homes and commercial buildings, and among the first to
use arc street lighting.
As
you can see, Truro is in my opinion a fabulous place to live. Not
only is it rich in heritage and wonder, the people are nice too.
If
your ever in this neck of the woods, try and include Truro as one of your
stops along the way.
