MASSAGE FOR RELAXATION ~~By M. Nicholson~~

first choose a comfy, quiet place. Make sure that you pick a warm room, one that has a bed, not a couch, even a twin will do.. Place a towel down as you're working with oils, and if more comfortable, a small one for under your ankles and under the chest area. A small pillow is ok, for under the head. If you're using music, rock is OUT! Use only something soft and relaxing, my choices are usually CDs of nature sounds.. *** Note *** NEVER attempt to give a massage while you're nervous or up-set!! You will pass that on to the person you're trying to help relax.. Take a moment to try and empty your mind, center your thoughts and calm down. Only then proceed. While giving the actual massage, use the HEALS of your hands, NOT the fingers, as fingers dig in and can bruise delicate skin, not to mention your finger's will get sore!!! :) You can, however, use your fingers for light massage, not therapeutic, but more as fun or for enjoyment. If you're giving a full-body massage, start at the feet and work your way up. Make sure that your hands are warm, if they aren't - either run them under warm water first, or rub them together, a cold massage is neither relaxing or or pleasurable. The same goes for the massage oils: Put some in your hands, NEVER directly on the person, and rub hands together - warming the oils with your hands and also softening your hands in the process. As any good massage is based in part on trust, try to keep even one finger of one hand on the person at all times - to keep contact with the body. This inspires subconscious trust in you, allowing the person you're massaging to respond to your touch. Massage in circular motions, small for say, the feet and hands, larger circles for the larger muscle groups, like the back, chest or stomach areas. For the first time, you might want to "only" do the back, as you can feel the large muscles with the heels of your hands, and also feel when they relax under your touch. The back shoulder-blade area is also another place where people tend to tense up without even knowing it, and you'll be able to feel those muscles as well, relaxing under your touch. Don't be afraid to experiment, OR to stop and just have fun... :) Above all, ENJOY!!!! This is only meant as a guide for those who haven't given massages, and is not restricted to what's written here. I personally avoid the chopping motions that you might have seen on TV, as this type of massage is for an athletic/sports massage, not for relaxation or real enjoyment. Any questions? Go with how you and your partner feels..
