Beauty
and the Beast
The gang go
off in search of the "River that Rains Upside Down". On their journey Eric
turns into a Bogbeast from the spray of a magical flower. They find the
river, but it is dammed by an ogre named Karomung. Karomung is going to
wipe out the tribe of Bogbeasts that live their. When Eric "drops in" on
the Bogbeasts, they worship him as a god. The kids lead the Bogbeasts in
battle against Karomung and win by taking his amulet, thus turning him
into nothing more then a Bogbeast who his dwarven slaves chase to extract
their revenge. They ride the river up and home where Eric puts on the amulet
to (hopefully) turn back to normal. It doesn't work and he can't live in
the normal world as a Bogbeast so he goes back shortly followed by the
others. Once back the amulet works as the magic of the medallion is tied
to the realm.
Spud's Rating
This wasn't
a really bad episode, just forgetable really. also had a number of colouration
and small things that detracted from the overall episode, though one scene
with a golem was kinda cool.
The Box
The children
recover Xandora's Box. Xandora was a good sorceress friend (and possibly
more) of Dungeon Master. Xandora's Box acts as a portal between worlds
when placed in specific parts of the realm. Xandora was trapped inside
the box by Venger. The gang free Xandora after being tricked into a trap
by Venger and barely escaping a swarm of hungry giant wasps. Xandora shows
them the way home but Venger follows them to Earth. The kids weapons don't
function there and Venger threatens to destroy everything unless they give
him the weapons of power. They lead Venger back to the Realm by going back
themselves where Xandora traps Venger in some dimension in which Tiamat
inhabits.
Spud's Rating
Not a bad
one here. Xandora's box obviously a take from Zandora's Box and one of
the few times the kids get home, even if for just a few moments. Xandora
was a good one shot guest star and I always enjoyed strange, 'Salvador
Dali'esque wasp dimension.
Citadel
of
Shadows
The kids are
chased by an army of orcs into a haunted forest. There Shiela finds a girl,
Karina, trapped by a force field and help free her and get her ring for
her. The kids had already found the ring of the mind and they need the
ring of the heart to get home. Karina turns out to be Vengers sister and
Venger imprisoned her after a struggle for power. Karina defeats Venger
and attempts to take his place but fails. Karina at the mercy of Venger
upon his return is saved by Shiela and has a change of heart.
Spud's Rating
I never did
like this episode. First, I can't see the original battle between Karina
and Venger, being fought by Karina in a pink sundress. Plus, I think the
whole friendship thing was laid on too thick.
City
on the Edge of Midnight
This one opens
with a scene from Earth. A sleeping child is pulled by some mysterious
force, underneath his bed and vanishes (on his dresser top are D&D
action figures). The kids find themselves at the "Forbidden Oasis",
which appears once every year and traps unwary travellers, transforming
them into hideous creatures
(for those role-players out there, these
hideous creatures were Hook Horrors). There they meet Ramuud, a caravan
merchant who takes the children in and treats them as if they were his
own. He tells them of his daughter, Aisha, who disappeared long ago. That
night while sleeping, Bobby is pulled into a hole in the floor by a big
nasty looking thing, which Ramuud calls the "Nightwalker" and lives in
the "City at the Edge of Midnight". Using their weapon, including Ramuuds
magic scimitar, the gang opens the portal and jump through finding themselves
in the City at the Edge of Midnight. They are chased and captured by gibbering
little gremlins and brought to the Nightwalker who has enslaved kids from
Earth and the realm to hold back the wheels of time and ensure the midnight
never comes. The kids manage to destroy the clock and thus the Nightwalker
so the children are freed and disappear home. They find Bobby but not Aisha.
The gang appear back at Ramuud's home where they find Dungeon Master and
Aisha waiting. At the end the gang have to choose between the comfort of
Ramuud care, who is actually "a king. A king of many kings, ruler of vast
kingdom to the east", and continuing their quest for a way home. They inevitably
leave saying farewell.
Spud's Rating
This was a
really good episode. The kids showed their vulnerability and frailty. Ramuud
treated them as if he were their father, giving them the first real comfort
they have had in quite some time. It showed that desite everything they
were still children. Also Eric showed the side of him that one could really
admire. His willingness to jump into danger for his friends, in this case
Bobby, who I think he sees as a little brother.
Dungeon
at the Heart of Dawn
The kids retrieve
the "Box of Balefire" and open it, which summons a powerful force of evil.
This power chases Dungeon Master and the children all across the realm
until Dungeon Master uses his power and that of the weapons of power to
transport them to the underworld. 'He Who Has No Name' also attempt to
destory Venger. This evil force seems to be Vengers master. A weakened
Venger and Shadow Demon race Dungeon Master, who is near death and the
children to 'The Heart of Dawn' to replenish their powers. Each of the
young ones becomes trapped holding off enemy after enemy so they can save
Dungeon Master, and thus Dungeon Master may be able to save them. Dungeon
Master does replenish his powers first and saves each of the children,
barely. He also replensihes Venger, so they can fight 'Good 'Ol What's
His Name', but they arrive on the surface and he his gone. Dungeon Master
warns that he will return in time.
Spud's Rating
This is one
of the best episodes. Possibly my absolute fave! I love the fact that there
is no resolution and in effect the 'good guys' lost. I also think that
the seperation of each of the kids in a certain death situation, without
their weapons, showing there bravery and honour was fantastic!
Day of
the Dungeon Master
In this Eric
falls into a lesson Dungeon Master needed to teach him and makes him Dungeon
Master for a short time. He tells the kids to go and find the city of Darkhaven
where they will find the "Golden Grimoir" which has the asnwers to all
questions. Venger of course wants the power of the grimoire for himself
and follows the children (not without causing them some problems, such
as a sorcerers storm). They attempt a quicker route by flying on a giant
bird (as per D&D the game, a Roc) but that goes up in smoke
when they are attacked by a Red Dragon. They eventually reach Darkhaven,
which is an enormous, ominous looking city. Both the kids and, unknown
to them, Venger race to find the grimoir. Eventually Venger decides that
Eric might know where it is. The kids eventually find it and Eric opens
a portal to home. Just as the kids are going to go home Venger ruins the
party. In the fight Eric puts his life on the line, destroys the grimoire
and levels Darkhaven. Dungeon Master is impressed with Eric's bravery and
turns him back to normal, but not before defalting his ego with a storm
cloud over his head.
Spud's Rating
This is a
great character building episode for Eric
and we see
the uncertainty that lies beneath his ego.
P-R-E-S-T-O
Spells Disaster
The kids get
trapped between a giant lizard and band of Orcs, when Presto is their only
hope he accidentally transports all but himself and Uni to a castle wherein
lives a giant with a brooklyn accent and his pet slimebeast, Willy, (perhaps
the same slimebeast that gaurded Venger's prison of agony in Servant of
Evil?). The giant has some "fun" with the gang in a game of "hide and
eat" with Willy. Meanwhile, Presto meats a three-headed, horned giant creature
who make him gamble Uni for Magic Marbles. Presto loses but they give him
the worthless marbles anyways. The marbles grow a huge tree with a door.
Uni escapes the clutches of the three-headed thing. Uni comes running and
the choice bewteen the tree and the giant, Presto chooses the tree. While
climbing a huge staircase inside they save a baby Gold Dragon (Uni uses
Presto's hat!) and make friends with mama dragon. Presto shows up in time
to save the gang and brings the tree down with the giant climbing it and
destroys him, saving mama dragon, baby dragon, and a dragon egg which hatches.
Spud's Rating
This wasn't
a fantastic episode, but it does form the basis for my theory of Uni inelligence
along with her sense of good and evil.
Eye of
the Beholder
The gang meet
a cowardly night named Sir John who accidentally saves them, twice! They
convince him to take them to the beholder. A fearsome beast who guards
a passage way back home. Venger takes Sir John's son captive to force him
to betray the kids. In the nick of time he comes to their aid while at
the mercy of the beholder. Seconds away from home Venger attacks Sir John
and Timothy and the kids come in to save them, while a "Bolt from the Blue"
drives Venger away and the day is won. Where did it come from? Dungeon
Master? Maybe...
Spud's Rating
Eye of the
Beholder wasn't a very good episode at all. Now I always got a kick out
of Sir John kind of sounding like Daffy Duck, but otherwise he was a little
bit annoying, while Timothy ends up being very annoying. The flower was
a cheesy polt device. Old hat really. This one is definitly not a classic.
Cave
of the Faerie Dragon
The gang are
enjoying some leisure time with a swim when they are found by Dungeon Master
and told of some tiny friends. Just as DM disappears giant ants attack,
but the kids are saved by a tiny Faerie Dragon, Amber. Amber takes to Presto
and with Presto asking takes them out of the cavern. They meet the rest
of the Faerie Dragons and agree to help free their queen Tasmira from the
evil warlord, King Veran, who is looking for their treasure. The Faerie
Dragons are looking for a home after the valley in which they lived burned.
The kids are captured in a cell which doesn't allow magic to work within
it when they try to rescue the queen. Amber flees for help but the kids
and Queen Tasmira escape with Presto hanging his hat outside the cell and
having magic termites eat the door away. The kids go back to the cavern
but the army already knows where it is, having followed Amber. The army
attacks and the gang and Faerie Dragons are forced to hold them off in
the treasure room. Eric accidentally stumbles onto the secret of a magic
mirror which can transport anyone where they want to go. The dragons leave
for the forest at the edge of the world with their treasure, but the army
breaks in before the kids have a chance to use the mirror, and to protect
the dragons Eric destroys the mirror. The king takes them prisoner but
Presto floats them to the ceiling and the kids make their getaway.
Spud's Rating
This one has
many good points. I liked the fact that they had a truly human villain.
Every other villain, while they may have been human, they didn't look it,
or were powerful sorcerers. King Veran was a barbarian type of warrior
with a human army. No Orcs or anything. But I especially like the fact
that it is Eric who looks on the bright side. His attempt to cheer up Bobby
really made him seem as if he were truly growing to be his "Big Brother".
Hank was more acting as a father figure type, with Shiela filling the role
of caregiver. This was a very last episode aired, and not a bad send off.
I think we were in for much more growth on the part of Eric, who had a
much bigger role to play then some of the rest. I think that's why DM was
always so hard on him.
The Girl
Who Dreamed Tomorrow
After being
chased by a group of Bullywugs sent by Venger, the kids are taken by suprise
by a dog. They follow the canine on his prodding and find a girl who has
been captured. Bobby is first on the scene and is instantly transformed
by the frightened look in her eyes. Charging in with the rest of the gang,
minus Eric, behind him they start to make quick work of their scaly foes.
Eric comes charging in with Bullywugs right behind him. They manage to
turn the two forces against each other. During the fight the girl warns
Diana to watch out for that tree (no not George of the Jungle in this case!).
They rescue the girl, named Terri, and her dog Freddy. Bobby begins to
have a begrudging crush on this girl who dreams the future. That is how
she knew what was going to happen to Diana, and how she knew her name.
Dungeon Master arrives and gives his usual cryptic message and disappears
again. That night Terri has a bad dream of the future. The next morning,
as Eric attempts to catch dinner they are attacks by a two-headed fire
breathing hydra. Terri's dream warned her of this and she knew how to escape
behind a nearby waterfall. By now Terri and Bobby have become best friendsThey
get trapped by a dust storm created by Venger and escape in a stone fortress
which is really a maze. Because of Terri's dream they know that in the
center of the maze is a portal home. They pass trap after trap after trap.
DM tells them that the maze lures people with the promise of a way home.
No one ever makes it. While resting Terri has her last dream of the future.
Terri is standing in a school hallway holding her books lookign tired.
Bobby shows up with a greating, "hey Terri, y'lose somethin'?" holding
the gold locket that she wears around her neck. Finally the gang arrive
in the middle of the maze. Venger confronts them and agrees to let them
into the portal in exchange for Terri, from who he wants to take the power
from, and her life in the process. Of course the kids (especially Bobby)
refuse. A fight ensues and in the end they decide that instead of allowing
the maze to trap other people that they will destroy it. But Bobby sees
to it that Terri goes home, but not before giving him the gold locket around
her neck. In the end the maze is destroyed and Bobby is left saddened at
the loss of his friend. Dungeon Master speaks to him alone and tells Bobby
of Terri's last dream, finally letting the kids know that someday they
will find their home.
Spud's Rating
This is a
great episode. A classic even! Hard pressed to find anything to not like
about this one, I'd have to say that the ONLY thing that was a little bit
hard to swallow was the fact that they stayed in the Realm and destroyed
the maze instead of going home. But his isn't hard to believe knowing our
stalwart and brave heroes. And knowing that they eventually get home is
nice, since we never did get to see it.
The Dragon's
Graveyard
Venger yet
again foils the kids chances of getting home, this time when they were
two feet away! Bobby gets extremely upset, and turns on the waterworks.
This sets off Hank, who decides the only way to get home is to "finish"
Venger off once and for all, and use Tiamat to do it. They find Dungeon
Master and demand the way to find Tiamat and get her to help them. While
searching they are attacked by an extremely irked Venger who found that
they had cheated death yet again. But Uni is injured and the upset Bobby
is made even more angry at Venger and is most eager to see Venger "buy
the farm". While trapped in a mountain cave they realize that their weapons
are the way to the Dragons Graveyard, the home of Tiamat. It works and
yet again Venger finds them gone. They convince Tiamat to help them after
a short fight, when they realize that the weapons of power are much more
powerful there, because that is where the weapons originate from. Tiamat
lures Venger to the Dragons Graveyard where they fight, first skeleton
warriors with other weapons of power and second Venger himself. The kids
defeat him, but Hank reconsiders and realizes that if he killed Venger
then he would be as bad as him. Dungeon Master is very pleased and uses
one of the items in the graceyard to heal Uni. Venger, the young ones,
and Dungeon Master all go back to the realm in the end and all is as it
was.
Spud's Rating
This was one
of those episodes that was just plain great! There wasn't one specific
thing that sticks out, but I think that more because the episode was all
good. Definitly a keeper!
Hall
of Bones
This one opens
with the kids being chased by Simian Bats sent by Venger. (Flying Monkees?
That would make Venger the Wicked Witch of the West! I'll get you my pretty,
and your little Unicorn too!) When their weapons fail, they make a quick
getaway. Dungeon Master tells them to go to the "Hall of Bones" to get
them recharged. The kids run afoul of a mob in the a town and almost get
eaten by "Lolth, Demon-Queen of Spiders", but fling her into a bottomless
Pit. Venger gets their weapons and uses them to fight Tiamat. They don't
work of course and futily discards them. They meet Hector the Halfing who
takes them to the Hallf of Bones, but turns out to be Venger. While fighting
in the hall, it's spirits come to life, and it is destroyed in the battle
between the spirits and Venger.
Spud's Rating
I liked this
one. It had the right element of fantasy and the town scene was very D&D
like. Also the spirit who spoke might very well have have been King Arthur.
If Merlin
existed, then likely so did Arthur.
The Last
Illusion
The kids are
in a REALLY stinky swamp and are attacked by a giant squid creature. After
a semi-successful spell cast by Presto, the monster chases him into the
swamp alone. There he is saved by a beauttiful girl, who Presto instantly
falls for. It is only a projection, an illusion he is seeing, made by her.
Venger was using making her use her powers as she was his captive. Just
as Presto gets in a little trouble his friends find him. They are invited
into a villiage which has been plagued by storms and fire for a year, since
an old couple's daughter, Varla disappeared in the swamp. Slowly but surely
Venger uses Varla and the villaigers fear to turn the gang into their prisoners.
Venger takes their weapons, posing as a white knight on a flying horse
and "saving" the villiage. The kids escape with the help of the old couple
when theyb realize that Varla still lives and they can save her. They go
to Venger's castle while being chased by the torch and pitchfork bearing
mob. They fight Venger and his Orcs, recover the weapons, and with Varla's
help escape when she makes "one last illusion" as a huge copy of Tiamat.
She was very weak at the time, and they think she has died. But at the
end as the gang are about to be lynched, Dungeon Master steps out and Presto
realizes that her illusions are still there. Varla stumbles out from the
rubble of the castle. Tired but alive.
Spud's Rating
Another great
one. It was nice to see Presto get a girl. He was always the sensitive,
nerdy type. He deserved to find love. They never explicidly say it, but
I always assumed that she "burned-out" her powers with that one last illusion.
And as the power vanished completely that last of her previous illusions
faded. This one was well written and you could feel for Presto, empathize
with his pain.
The Lost
Children
The gang meet
a bunch of children, "the lost children", who are from another world. Their
only elder left, Alfor, was captured, along with their spaceship. The spaceship
(of course) can get the gang home. They go with the children to rescue
Alfor but Shiela gets captured. The children and the gang sneak inside
to rescue Shiela, and then, finally, rescue Alfor (who looks remarkably
like a wookie!). Venger sends a whole host of lizard men to get the whole
lot of them. In the knick of time they make their getaway but the ship
crashes in the swamp from a magical blast from the hand of Venger. Venger
assumes they're dead and leaves them. But of course they survive and since
it will take far too long to fix the ship for the kids to wait around (15
years!),
and so they
go off to find another way.
Spud's Rating
I tried to
keep the synopsis mercifully short. All I can say is "YEEEECH!". This was
amongst the worst of the lot. It was almost pointless! OK I've bashed it
enough.
The Night
of No Tomorrow
In this, the
series pilot, the gang travels to the town of Helix for the celebration
of when Merlin the magician vanquished vengers flying dragons and saved
the town. On the way the, they meet Merlin and save his life from Tiamat
the Dragon. He says he is impressed by Presto's wizardry and offers to
take him as his apprentice. He decides to accept Merlins offer, but only
to try to find a way back home. Merlin in fact is Venger in disguise! He
fools Presto into releasing his dragon to destroy Helix. The gang manage
to stop the dragons and Venger left fleeing from Tiamat. They have saved
Helix and return to town heroes, especially Presto.
Spud's Rating
This was a
good episode, even if not great. It had a very fantasy feel to it, with
magic, dragons, and did a good job of introducing us to the characters.
Odyssey
of the 12th Talisman
The kids meet
a boy, much like Eric, Lorne. He had a magic talisman, which he had found.
A wizard wanted this amulet, but unbenknownst to the gang it was also the
"Stone of Astra", which they were looking for to destroy. The amulet was
also very dangerous to everybody but the wearer. A fearful town was about
to roast Eric and Lorne, but the gang came running and found themselves
at the mercy of the wizard instead. The Dungeon Master came in knick of
time, just as Lorne was about to relinquish the amulet. Venger came to
take the amulet but was driven off by the wizard with the amulet which
he then destroyed, redeeming himself for his misdeeds.
Spud's Rating
Nothing really
special. Lorne wasn't anything really original. Kind of a shorter and less
innerly noble version of Eric.
Prison
Without Walls
The kids run
into a valley of Gnomes enslaved by Venger to mine mystical gems to discover
the secret of the dragons heart. The only person who knows the secret is
the gnomish spellbinder Lukion who Venger but a spell on when he wouldn't
reveal it to. The gang sets off to find Lukion because the secret of the
dragons heart can show the way home. They find Lukion shortly after but
they don't know it. He looks like a big shambling plant-thing. He saves
them twice, and finally they realize that this form is his "Prison Without
Walls". In this form he can't perform any magic or spells. Presto turns
Lukion back to himself with a magic wand of Lukions. Then he takes them
and frees the gnomes and gives them the way home in a giant map from the
gems, which are also portals. venger of course attacks, having the secret
and almost destroys the village but the kids defeat his Orcs, Golems, and
finally Venger. But the portal the Earth is destoryed in the battle and
the gang moves on.
Spud's Rating
Nothing exceptional,
but not bad either. Still entertaining.
Quest
of the Skeleton Warrior
The kids meet
Dekion a fallen knight, now a skeleton warrior under the spell of Venger
who needs the circle of power to allow him to return to his human state
and Venger wants it's power. But only those pure of heart can get it, because
it is in the Tower of the Celestial Knights, of which Dekion was a part
of. The kids go into the tower to find the circle and while inside confront
their worst fears. They succeed and meet Dekion. Dungeon Master informs
the children that Dekion betrayed the celestial knights and that is why
he is now cursed. But he redeams himself by helping the gang defeat Venger
on the brink of disaster when he gets the circle. The circle is destroyed
and Dekion transforms back into Celestial Knight, flying away on his War
Bird.
Spud's Rating
I love the
fear sequence in the tower, and Dekion made for a good tragic, desperate
villain.
In Search
of the Dungeon Master
Dungeon Master
is captured by Warduke and while speaking to the know tree (Know Tree "Ask
me anything." Bobby "OK, Who won the '81 world series?" Know Tree "Simple,
the Grey Wood Elves") he tells them of DM's plight and set off to save
him. They meet is DM's Pixie friend who guides them. After a few misadventures
they get to the cave where Warduke is. They venture in but are captured
and weapons taken away, except Shiela who manages to get Uni free and the
rest of the gang weapons. They find DM frozen in magical ice. Just as Venger
and Warduke arrive to conclude their "deal" for the life of Dungeon Master.
They fight Venger and Warduke and Warduke's troops and are saves when Warduke's
sword accidentally hits DM's prison of ice and is freed and blows up the
volcano where Warduke makes his home chasing off and roasting his troops
but not before dipensing of (temporarily again) Venger.
Spud's Rating
A rather generic,
very fantasy, adventure episode,
though the
only one that was ever released commercially.
Servant
of Evil
The gang suprises
Bobby on his birthday and Eric gives him some hopping little critters which
run off and Bobby chases them off in the woods. While gone the rest of
them are captured by Venger's lizard men and taken to his "Prison of Agony".
DM gives Bobby an amulet which allows him to keep in touch with Bobby while
he goes to rescue his friends and protects him from Venger. He travels
there only to be confronted by Venger and his unwilling servant Kerox.
Kerox makes a plan to free his the kids and Bobby. Meanwhile, Hank, Presto,
Eric, Shiela, and Diana try to escape with a Paladin Stongheart but are
chased back by a "Slimebeast". Bobby gives Kerox the amulet because "when
he needs it most he has to give it away." Kerox frees them but are nearly
defeated by lizard men using their weapons. Kerix saves them and Venger
is thrown into lava after his magic is turned against him by the amulet
and the volcano based prison blows up.
Spud's Rating
This episode
showed Bobby's courage and devotion to his friends and I always kind of
liked Kerox.
Child
of the Stargazer
The kids stumble
upon a young man, sick from exhaustion and hunger. This young man, named
Kosar (and looks much like a Micheal Jackson circa 1984-85), escaped from
being imprisoned by a demon, who is also the queen. She wants Kosar out
of the way so she can remain in rule because of an ancient prophesy, that
must be fulfilled by a "child of the stargazer". The kids travel to the
city but Kosar and Diana (who have fallen most in love) get zapped to the
city by the Demon/Queen. They escape and go to the "Temple of Light" where
the prophesy can be fulfilled. But Kosar is injured. Diana instead also
is a child of the stargazer. Her father is an astronomer we discover, while
Kosar's father is an astrologer. Diana fulfills the destiny and also allows
the kids a way home. Except Kosar will die unless she uses this power to
save Kosar. She does, giving up the way home, and sending Kosar where he
belongs, with the stars.
Spud's Rating
This was a
very good episode, with what I consider to be the best ending of any of
them. It doesn't get a "Spud's Certified Classic" seal of approval, but
it's close. I love the last line more then just about any (it almost bring
me to tears to his day) "Look Diana, look what you have done. Do you hear?
Listen to the people you have set free."
The Treasure
of Tardos
Tardos keep
is all that stand bewteen Venger and destroying Tiamat with dragonsbane.
He creates Demodragon to try to trick Queen Solinara of Tardos into using
it against Demodragon so he can get it. Demodragon gets the kids weapons
and breaks Vengers spell of control and goes on a rampage. DM, disguised
as an old gardener gives Uni a wreath of dragonsbane. The gang team up
with Venger but he doublecrosses them. Demodragon is destroyed when Demodragon
grabs Uni. Venger actually let's them go for "restoring the balance". The
last line in the episode is a mysterious one. DM says after hearing Eric's
answer to the questions "do you figure Venger not all bad?", "you are wrong
Cavalier. There was good in Venger once, a long time ago. Everyone makes
mistakes, Venger...was mine."
Spud's Rating
I really liked
this episode. But I can't quite say why. I just did.
The Timelost
Venger uses
the "Crystal of Cronos" to find a pilot from World War II to change history.
The pilot becomes friends with the gang and help them by destroying the
crytsal and returning to his own time.
Spud's Rating
A good episode,
with a very patriotic ending. Nothing wrong with that.
The Traitor
Bobby and
Hank are captured by Vengers Orcs just after meeting the "baby-talking,
furry, little, Cloud Bears". Shiela follows them back to the Orc camp and
find Hank talking to the Orc captain about capturing them and the cloud
bears. Shiela exposes Hank when he comes back to the gang and they cast
him out as a traitor. Hank is really just protecting Bobby from Venger
who Venger will probably Torture if Hank disobeys him. Hank find out that
the Cliud Bears' heart stones can defeat Venger and proves to the gang
he is no traitor and use the stones to free Bobby and beat Venger.
Spud's Rating
This WOULD
get the classic seal except for the annoying cloud bears.
Otherwise
a fantastic episode.
Valley
of the Unicorns
Uni is captured
by the wizard Kelek for her horn after trying to save Silvermane, leader
of the last Unicorn herd. Kelek leads the gang back to his castle, steals
Uni's horn and allows them to find the other "hornless" Unicorns so they
will lead them to the "Valley of the Unicorns". It works and Kelek captures
the last three Unicorns so he can have all the horns and rule the realm.
Eric saves the gang from falling rocks after which DM tells them "their
worst enemy can be their strongest ally". In other words Venger. Presto
tries to call Venger, but instead transports himself to Venger castle,
but in the end enlists his help. Venger destroys Kelek and his castle but
not before Presto gives the Unicorns back their horns and Venger is temporarily
crushed by Kelek's falling castle.
Spud's Rating
We get to
see how much Bobby really cares about Uni.
His emotional
outburst really was that of a 10 year old.
Winds
of Darkness
I'm not going
to bother, because, well, even if I tried to give a thourough synopsis
it wouldn't make much sense. Quickly though, Hank is "taken" by the Darkling
who takes three victims every 33 years until he gets 100 and his darkness
rules the realm forever. Martha (aka the Lightbearer) defeats the Darkling
freeing all the previous victims including Hank.
Spud's Rating
The worst
of the lot. The story has a few holes you could drive a mac truck through,
and just generally there is too much left unsaid.
Garden
of Zinn
Bobby is poisoned
by a big water lizard-thing and the kids go off to the Garden of Zinn to
find a cure, the foot of a yellow dragon. They meet the beastial Solars
who allows Shiela and Bobby to stay with him while the rest of the gang
hunt for the cure. They run afoul of an imposter Dungeon Master, actually
two! Queen Zinn puts the gang through the "Trial of the Worm" to see if
