The humans "eat". They put
dead organisms in their mouth and "chew" it into a blob. Then
they "swallow" it, or make it move through their pharynx into
their esophagus which leads to their stomach. The stomack releases acid
(hydrochloric acid) that breaks the blob into a thick paste (chyme). An
enzyme (pepsin) is released to break down proteins. The chyme goes throught
the second sphincter (the first being the cardiac) the pyloric sphincter,
and into the small intestine (named so for the diameter not the length).
Here nutrients are absorbed, and fats broken down by bile created in the
liver and stored in the gall bladder. The blob passes into the large intestine
where water is reabsorbed. The remaining, ummmm, stuff, is stored in the
rectum where it will (hopefully) pass through the anus and out of the body.
The nutrients that were absorbed in the small intestine are sent throught the blood stream to be purified and refined in the liver. Then any leftover wastes are sent to the kidneys. But that is another section. |
