In Os bygdebok (local history book,) found the following: Claus Andreas Nieuwejaar b. in Bergen 1816 - parents: Carl N. Nieuwejaar, shipmaster, later merchant and wife Ellen Margrete Bloch. Became bailiff in Os in 1851 and lived at Lyssand. He was a very respected man in the community. He died in 1897. He was married to Gjertrud *) Garman Astrup Kruger, daughter of merchant Kruger. They had 7 children: 1) Carl, who became a forest manager in Nordland County, married to Magdalena Margrete Kjeldsberg, 2) Ida m. to farmer Jens Opstvedt, Sk�nevik, 3) Emilie m. to agent Jochim Engelsen, Bergen, 4) Marie, 5) Harriet m. to the local postmaster Rasmus Walle, Os, 6) Claudine m. in America and 7) Elisa.
