(I didn't even close that last bracket, two lines ago. There - you see how informal the Dayroom is ! )
The British Network Dayroom. Our motto is : my isn't this informal : )
NB. This : ) is my informal version of the "smiley" : for those who don't know, this is a little face, used in internet communication (mostly email), which gives a sense of the facial expression or emotions of a person, after a sentence that they have just composed. The facial expression itself is evident when viewed by someone with their head (tilted) on one side - such as in the conventional happy face smiley :-) Usually therefore smileys are used by people when they feel their emotions may otherwise be mis-understood - when they find themselves being ironic, for example, rather than eg. patronizing, or just plain nasty :-) . For this reason "smileys" are often more cleverly known as "emoticons" - because they "emote".
I find normal smileys cumbersome :-( Hence my compromise - smileys without a "nose" : ) Brevity is - after all - the sole of wit : )
(and am I being ironic ? )
Much of this page still repeats the main UWC BritNet Homepage - and for this I appologise : )
But (as time goes on)
this will continue to change!
